الم ١

[32:1] Alif-Lam-Mim. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran, and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings.]

الم

Alif Lam Meem · Root: ا ل م · Particle

تَنزِيلُ الْكِتَابِ لَا رَيْبَ فِيهِ مِن رَّبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ ٢

[32:2] The revelation of the Book (this Quran) is from the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists) in which there is not doubt!

تَنزِيلُ الْكِتَابِ

The revelation of the Book

لَا رَيْبَ فِيهِ

there is no doubt in it

مِن رَّبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ

from the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists)

أَمْ يَقُولُونَ افْتَرَاهُ ۚ بَلْ هُوَ الْحَقُّ مِن رَّبِّكَ لِتُنذِرَ قَوْمًا مَّا أَتَاهُم مِّن نَّذِيرٍ مِّن قَبْلِكَ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَهْتَدُونَ ٣

[32:3] Or say they: "He (Muhammad SAW) has fabricated it?" Nay, it is the truth from your Lord, that you may warn a people to whom no warner has come before you (O Muhammad SAW), in order that they may be guided.

أَمْ يَقُولُونَ افْتَرَاهُ ۚ

Or say they: 'He (Muhammad SAW) has fabricated it?'

بَلْ هُوَ الْحَقُّ مِن رَّبِّكَ

Nay, it is the truth from your Lord,

لِتُنذِرَ قَوْمًا مَّا أَتَاهُم مِّن نَّذِيرٍ مِّن قَبْلِكَ

that you may warn a people to whom no warner has come before you (O Muhammad SAW),

لَعَلَّهُمْ يَهْتَدُونَ

in order that they may be guided.

اللَّهُ الَّذِي خَلَقَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا فِي سِتَّةِ أَيَّامٍ ثُمَّ اسْتَوَىٰ عَلَى الْعَرْشِ ۖ مَا لَكُم مِّن دُونِهِ مِن وَلِيٍّ وَلَا شَفِيعٍ ۚ أَفَلَا تَتَذَكَّرُونَ ٤

[32:4] Allah it is He Who has created the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them in six Days. Then He Istawa (rose over) the Throne (in a manner that suits His Majesty). You (mankind) have none, besides Him, as a Wali (protector or helper etc.) or an intercessor. Will you not then remember (or be admonished)?

اللَّهُ الَّذِي خَلَقَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا

Allah it is He Who has created the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them

فِي سِتَّةِ أَيَّامٍ

in six Days.

ثُمَّ اسْتَوَىٰ عَلَى الْعَرْشِ ۖ

Then He Istawa (rose over) the Throne (in a manner that suits His Majesty).

مَا لَكُم مِّن دُونِهِ مِن وَلِيٍّ وَلَا شَفِيعٍ ۚ

You (mankind) have none, besides Him, as a Wali (protector or helper etc.) or an intercessor.

أَفَلَا تَتَذَكَّرُونَ

Will you not then remember (or be admonished)?

يُدَبِّرُ الْأَمْرَ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ إِلَى الْأَرْضِ ثُمَّ يَعْرُجُ إِلَيْهِ فِي يَوْمٍ كَانَ مِقْدَارُهُ أَلْفَ سَنَةٍ مِّمَّا تَعُدُّونَ ٥

[32:5] He arranges (every) affair from the heavens to the earth, then it (affair) will go up to Him, in one Day, the space whereof is a thousand years of your reckoning (i.e. reckoning of our present world's time).

يُدَبِّرُ الْأَمْرَ

He arranges (every) affair

مِنَ السَّمَاءِ إِلَى الْأَرْضِ

from the heavens to the earth

ثُمَّ يَعْرُجُ إِلَيْهِ

then it (affair) will go up to Him

فِي يَوْمٍ

in one Day

كَانَ مِقْدَارُهُ أَلْفَ سَنَةٍ

the space whereof is a thousand years

مِّمَّا تَعُدُّونَ

of your reckoning (i.e. reckoning of our present world's time)

[32:6] That is He, the All-Knower of the unseen and the seen, the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful.

ذَٰلِكَ

That is He,

عَالِمُ الْغَيْبِ وَالشَّهَادَةِ

the All-Knower of the unseen and the seen,

الْعَزِيزُ

the All-Mighty,

الرَّحِيمُ

the Most Merciful.

[32:7] Who made everything He has created good, and He began the creation of man from clay.

الَّذِي أَحْسَنَ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ خَلَقَهُ ۖ

Who made everything He has created good

وَبَدَأَ خَلْقَ الْإِنسَانِ مِن طِينٍ

and He began the creation of man from clay

[32:8] Then He made his offspring from semen of worthless water (male and female sexual discharge).

[32:9] Then He fashioned him in due proportion, and breathed into him the soul (created by Allah for that person), and He gave you hearing (ears), sight (eyes) and hearts. Little is the thanks you give!

ثُمَّ سَوَّاهُ

Then He fashioned him in due proportion,

وَنَفَخَ فِيهِ مِن رُّوحِهِ ۖ

and breathed into him the soul (created by Allah for that person),

وَجَعَلَ لَكُمُ السَّمْعَ

and He gave you hearing (ears),

وَالْأَبْصَارَ

sight (eyes),

وَالْأَفْئِدَةَ ۚ

and hearts.

قَلِيلًا مَّا تَشْكُرُونَ

Little is the thanks you give!

وَقَالُوا أَإِذَا ضَلَلْنَا فِي الْأَرْضِ أَإِنَّا لَفِي خَلْقٍ جَدِيدٍ ۚ بَلْ هُم بِلِقَاءِ رَبِّهِمْ كَافِرُونَ ١٠

[32:10] And they say: "When we are (dead and become) lost in the earth, shall we indeed be recreated anew?" Nay, but they deny the Meeting with their Lord!

وَقَالُوا

And they say:

أَإِذَا ضَلَلْنَا فِي الْأَرْضِ

When we are (dead and become) lost in the earth,

أَإِنَّا لَفِي خَلْقٍ جَدِيدٍ ۚ

shall we indeed be recreated anew?

بَلْ هُم بِلِقَاءِ رَبِّهِمْ كَافِرُونَ

Nay, but they deny the Meeting with their Lord!

وَقَالُوا

۞ قُلْ يَتَوَفَّاكُم مَّلَكُ الْمَوْتِ الَّذِي وُكِّلَ بِكُمْ ثُمَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكُمْ تُرْجَعُونَ ١١

[32:11] Say: "The angel of death, who is set over you, will take your souls, then you shall be brought to your Lord."

۞ قُلْ

Say:

يَتَوَفَّاكُم مَّلَكُ الْمَوْتِ

The angel of death, who is set over you, will take your souls,

الَّذِي وُكِّلَ بِكُمْ ثُمَّ

then you shall be brought to your Lord.

وَلَوْ تَرَىٰ إِذِ الْمُجْرِمُونَ نَاكِسُو رُءُوسِهِمْ عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ رَبَّنَا أَبْصَرْنَا وَسَمِعْنَا فَارْجِعْنَا نَعْمَلْ صَالِحًا إِنَّا مُوقِنُونَ ١٢

[32:12] And if you only could see when the Mujrimun (criminals, disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, etc.) shall hang their heads before their Lord (saying): "Our Lord! We have now seen and heard, so send us back (to the world), we will do righteous good deeds. Verily! We now believe with certainty."

وَلَوْ تَرَىٰ إِذِ الْمُجْرِمُونَ

And if you only could see when the Mujrimun (criminals, disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, etc.)

نَاكِسُو رُءُوسِهِمْ عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ

shall hang their heads before their Lord

رَبَّنَا أَبْصَرْنَا وَسَمِعْنَا

saying: 'Our Lord! We have now seen and heard

فَارْجِعْنَا نَعْمَلْ صَالِحًا

so send us back (to the world), we will do righteous good deeds.

إِنَّا مُوقِنُونَ

Verily! We now believe with certainty.

وَلَوْ

وَلَوْ شِئْنَا لَآتَيْنَا كُلَّ نَفْسٍ هُدَاهَا وَلَٰكِنْ حَقَّ الْقَوْلُ مِنِّي لَأَمْلَأَنَّ جَهَنَّمَ مِنَ الْجِنَّةِ وَالنَّاسِ أَجْمَعِينَ ١٣

[32:13] And if We had willed, surely! We would have given every person his guidance, but the Word from Me took effect (about evil-doers), that I will fill Hell with jinn and mankind together.

وَلَوْ شِئْنَا

And if We had willed,

لَآتَيْنَا كُلَّ نَفْسٍ هُدَاهَا

surely! We would have given every person his guidance,

وَلَٰكِنْ حَقَّ الْقَوْلُ مِنِّي

but the Word from Me took effect

لَأَمْلَأَنَّ جَهَنَّمَ مِنَ الْجِنَّةِ وَالنَّاسِ أَجْمَعِينَ

(about evil-doers), that I will fill Hell with jinn and mankind together.

وَلَوْ

فَذُوقُوا بِمَا نَسِيتُمْ لِقَاءَ يَوْمِكُمْ هَٰذَا إِنَّا نَسِينَاكُمْ ۖ وَذُوقُوا عَذَابَ الْخُلْدِ بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ ١٤

[32:14] Then taste you (the torment of the Fire) because of your forgetting the Meeting of this Day of yours, (and) surely! We too will forget you, so taste you the abiding torment for what you used to do.

فَذُوقُوا بِمَا نَسِيتُمْ لِقَاءَ يَوْمِكُمْ هَٰذَا

Then taste you (the torment of the Fire) because of your forgetting the Meeting of this Day of yours,

إِنَّا نَسِينَاكُمْ ۖ

and surely! We too will forget you,

وَذُوقُوا عَذَابَ الْخُلْدِ بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ

so taste you the abiding torment for what you used to do.

فَذُوقُوا

إِنَّمَا يُؤْمِنُ بِآيَاتِنَا الَّذِينَ إِذَا ذُكِّرُوا بِهَا خَرُّوا سُجَّدًا وَسَبَّحُوا بِحَمْدِ رَبِّهِمْ وَهُمْ لَا يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ ۩ ١٥

[32:15] Only those believe in Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), who, when they are reminded of them fall down prostrate, and glorify the Praises of their Lord, and they are not proud.

إِنَّمَا يُؤْمِنُ بِآيَاتِنَا

Only those believe in Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.)

الَّذِينَ إِذَا ذُكِّرُوا بِهَا

who, when they are reminded of them

خَرُّوا سُجَّدًا

fall down prostrate

وَسَبَّحُوا بِحَمْدِ رَبِّهِمْ

and glorify the Praises of their Lord

وَهُمْ لَا يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ ۩

and they are not proud

إِنَّمَا

تَتَجَافَىٰ جُنُوبُهُمْ عَنِ الْمَضَاجِعِ يَدْعُونَ رَبَّهُمْ خَوْفًا وَطَمَعًا وَمِمَّا رَزَقْنَاهُمْ يُنفِقُونَ ١٦

[32:16] Their sides forsake their beds, to invoke their Lord in fear and hope, and they spend (charity in Allah's Cause) out of what We have bestowed on them.

تَتَجَافَىٰ جُنُوبُهُمْ عَنِ الْمَضَاجِعِ

Their sides forsake their beds

يَدْعُونَ رَبَّهُمْ

to invoke their Lord

خَوْفًا وَطَمَعًا

in fear and hope

وَمِمَّا رَزَقْنَاهُمْ يُنفِقُونَ

[32:17] No person knows what is kept hidden for them of joy as a reward for what they used to do.

فَلَا تَعْلَمُ نَفْسٌ

مِّن قُرَّةِ أَعْيُنٍ

of joy

جَزَاءً بِمَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ

[32:18] Is then he who is a believer like him who is Fasiq (disbeliever and disobedient to Allah)? Not equal are they.

أَفَمَن كَانَ مُؤْمِنًا

Is then he who is a believer

كَمَن كَانَ فَاسِقًا ۚ

like him who is Fasiq (disbeliever and disobedient to Allah)?

لَّا يَسْتَوُونَ

Not equal are they.

[32:19] As for those who believe (in the Oneness of Allah Islamic Monotheism) and do righteous good deeds, for them are Gardens (Paradise) as an entertainment, for what they used to do.

أَمَّا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا

As for those who believe

وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ

and do righteous good deeds

فَلَهُمْ جَنَّاتُ الْمَأْوَىٰ

for them are Gardens (Paradise)

نُزُلًا بِمَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ

as an entertainment, for what they used to do

وَأَمَّا الَّذِينَ فَسَقُوا فَمَأْوَاهُمُ النَّارُ ۖ كُلَّمَا أَرَادُوا أَن يَخْرُجُوا مِنْهَا أُعِيدُوا فِيهَا وَقِيلَ لَهُمْ ذُوقُوا عَذَابَ النَّارِ الَّذِي كُنتُم بِهِ تُكَذِّبُونَ ٢٠

[32:20] And as for those who are Fasiqun (disbelievers and disobedient to Allah), their abode will be the Fire, every time they wish to get away therefrom, they will be put back thereto, and it will be said to them: "Taste you the torment of the Fire which you used to deny."

وَأَمَّا الَّذِينَ فَسَقُوا

And as for those who are Fasiqun (disbelievers and disobedient to Allah),

فَمَأْوَاهُمُ النَّارُ ۖ

their abode will be the Fire,

كُلَّمَا أَرَادُوا أَن يَخْرُجُوا مِنْهَا

every time they wish to get away therefrom,

أُعِيدُوا فِيهَا

they will be put back thereto,

وَقِيلَ لَهُمْ

and it will be said to them:

ذُوقُوا عَذَابَ النَّارِ

"Taste you the torment of the Fire

الَّذِي كُنتُم بِهِ تُكَذِّبُونَ

which you used to deny."

وَأَمَّا

[32:21] And verily, We will make them taste of the near torment (i.e. the torment in the life of this world, i.e. disasters, calamities, etc.) prior to the supreme torment (in the Hereafter), in order that they may (repent and) return (i.e. accept Islam).

وَلَنُذِيقَنَّهُم

And verily, We will make them taste

مِّنَ الْعَذَابِ الْأَدْنَىٰ

of the near torment

دُونَ الْعَذَابِ الْأَكْبَرِ

(i.e. the torment in the life of this world, i.e. disasters, calamities, etc.) prior to the supreme torment

لَعَلَّهُمْ يَرْجِعُونَ

in order that they may (repent and) return (i.e. accept Islam)

وَلَنُذِيقَنَّهُم

[32:22] And who does more wrong than he who is reminded of the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) of his Lord, then he turns aside therefrom? Verily, We shall exact retribution from the Mujrimun (criminals, disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, etc.).

وَمَنْ أَظْلَمُ مِمَّن ذُكِّرَ بِآيَاتِ رَبِّهِ

And who does more wrong than he who is reminded of the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) of his Lord,

ثُمَّ أَعْرَضَ عَنْهَا ۚ

then he turns aside therefrom?

إِنَّا مِنَ الْمُجْرِمِينَ مُنتَقِمُونَ

Verily, We shall exact retribution from the Mujrimun (criminals, disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, etc.).

[32:23] And indeed We gave Musa (Moses) the Scripture [the Taurat (Torah)]. So be not you in doubt of meeting him [i.e. when you met Musa (Moses) during the night of Al-Isra' and Al-Mi'raj over the heavens]. And We made it [the Taurat (Torah)] a guide to the Children of Israel.

وَلَقَدْ آتَيْنَا مُوسَى الْكِتَابَ

And indeed We gave Musa (Moses) the Scripture [the Taurat (Torah)].

فَلَا تَكُن فِي مِرْيَةٍ مِّن لِّقَائِهِ ۖ

So be not you in doubt of meeting him [i.e. when you met Musa (Moses) during the night of Al-Isra' and Al-Mi'raj over the heavens].

وَجَعَلْنَاهُ هُدًى لِّبَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ

[32:24] And We made from among them (Children of Israel), leaders, giving guidance under Our Command, when they were patient and used to believe with certainty in Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.).

وَجَعَلْنَا مِنْهُمْ

And We made from among them

أَئِمَّةً

leaders

يَهْدُونَ بِأَمْرِنَا

giving guidance under Our Command

لَمَّا صَبَرُوا ۖ

when they were patient

وَكَانُوا بِآيَاتِنَا يُوقِنُونَ

and used to believe with certainty in Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.)

[32:25] Verily, your Lord will judge between them on the Day of Resurrection, concerning that wherein they used to differ.

will judge between them

يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ

on the Day of Resurrection

فِيمَا كَانُوا فِيهِ يَخْتَلِفُونَ

concerning that wherein they used to differ

[32:26] Is it not a guidance for them, how many generations We have destroyed before them in whose dwellings they do walk about? Verily, therein indeed are signs. Would they not then listen?

أَوَلَمْ يَهْدِ لَهُمْ

Is it not a guidance for them,

كَمْ أَهْلَكْنَا مِن قَبْلِهِم مِّنَ الْقُرُونِ

how many generations We have destroyed before them

يَمْشُونَ فِي مَسَاكِنِهِمْ ۚ

in whose dwellings they do walk about?

إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَآيَاتٍ ۖ

Verily, therein indeed are signs.

[32:27] Have they not seen how We drive water (rain clouds) to the dry land without any vegetation, and therewith bring forth crops providing food for their cattle and themselves? Will they not then see?

أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا

Have they not seen

أَنَّا نَسُوقُ الْمَاءَ

how We drive water (rain clouds)

إِلَى الْأَرْضِ الْجُرُزِ

to the dry land without any vegetation

فَنُخْرِجُ بِهِ زَرْعًا

and therewith bring forth crops

تَأْكُلُ مِنْهُ أَنْعَامُهُمْ وَأَنفُسُهُمْ ۖ

providing food for their cattle and themselves

أَفَلَا يُبْصِرُونَ

Will they not then see?

أَوَلَمْ

[32:28] They say: "When will this Al-Fath (Decision) be (between us and you, i.e. the Day of Resurrection), if you are telling the truth?"

وَيَقُولُونَ مَتَىٰ هَٰذَا

When will this Al-Fath (Decision) be

الْفَتْحُ إِن كُنتُمْ

if you are telling the truth?

وَيَقُولُونَ

[32:29] Say: "On the Day of Al-Fath (Decision), no profit will it be to those who disbelieve if they (then) believe! Nor will they be granted a respite."

قُلْ يَوْمَ الْفَتْحِ

Say: 'On the Day of Al-Fath (Decision),

لَا يَنفَعُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا إِيمَانُهُمْ

no profit will it be to those who disbelieve if they (then) believe!

وَلَا هُمْ يُنظَرُونَ

Nor will they be granted a respite.

verily they (too) are awaiting
