المر ۚ تِلْكَ آيَاتُ الْكِتَابِ ۗ وَالَّذِي أُنزِلَ إِلَيْكَ مِن رَّبِّكَ الْحَقُّ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ النَّاسِ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ ١

[13:1] Alif-Lam-Mim-Ra [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. These are the Verses of the Book (the Quran), and that which has been revealed unto you (Muhammad SAW) from your Lord is the truth, but most men believe not.

المر ۚ

تِلْكَ آيَاتُ الْكِتَابِ ۗ

These are the Verses of the Book (the Quran)

وَالَّذِي أُنزِلَ إِلَيْكَ مِن رَّبِّكَ الْحَقُّ

and that which has been revealed unto you (Muhammad SAW) from your Lord is the truth

وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ النَّاسِ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ

but most men believe not

اللَّهُ الَّذِي رَفَعَ السَّمَاوَاتِ بِغَيْرِ عَمَدٍ تَرَوْنَهَا ۖ ثُمَّ اسْتَوَىٰ عَلَى الْعَرْشِ ۖ وَسَخَّرَ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ ۖ كُلٌّ يَجْرِي لِأَجَلٍ مُّسَمًّى ۚ يُدَبِّرُ الْأَمْرَ يُفَصِّلُ الْآيَاتِ لَعَلَّكُم بِلِقَاءِ رَبِّكُمْ تُوقِنُونَ ٢

[13:2] Allah is He Who raised the heavens without any pillars that you can see. Then, He Istawa (rose above) the Throne (really in a manner that suits His Majesty). He has subjected the sun and the moon (to continue going round)! Each running (its course) for a term appointed. He regulates all affairs, explaining the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) in detail, that you may believe with certainty in the meeting with your Lord.

اللَّهُ الَّذِي رَفَعَ السَّمَاوَاتِ بِغَيْرِ عَمَدٍ تَرَوْنَهَا ۖ

Allah is He Who raised the heavens without any pillars that you can see.

ثُمَّ اسْتَوَىٰ عَلَى الْعَرْشِ ۖ

Then, He Istawa (rose above) the Throne (really in a manner that suits His Majesty).

وَسَخَّرَ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ ۖ

He has subjected the sun and the moon (to continue going round)!

كُلٌّ يَجْرِي لِأَجَلٍ مُّسَمًّى ۚ

Each running (its course) for a term appointed.

يُدَبِّرُ الْأَمْرَ

He regulates all affairs,

يُفَصِّلُ الْآيَاتِ

explaining the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) in detail,

لَعَلَّكُم بِلِقَاءِ رَبِّكُمْ تُوقِنُونَ

that you may believe with certainty in the meeting with your Lord.

وَهُوَ الَّذِي مَدَّ الْأَرْضَ وَجَعَلَ فِيهَا رَوَاسِيَ وَأَنْهَارًا ۖ وَمِن كُلِّ الثَّمَرَاتِ جَعَلَ فِيهَا زَوْجَيْنِ اثْنَيْنِ ۖ يُغْشِي اللَّيْلَ النَّهَارَ ۚ إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَآيَاتٍ لِّقَوْمٍ يَتَفَكَّرُونَ ٣

[13:3] And it is He Who spread out the earth, and placed therein firm mountains and rivers and of every kind of fruits He made Zawjain Ithnain (two in pairs - may mean two kinds or it may mean: of two sorts, e.g. black and white, sweet and sour, small and big, etc.) He brings the night as a cover over the day. Verily, in these things, there are Ayat (proofs, evidences, lessons, signs, etc.) for people who reflect.

وَهُوَ الَّذِي مَدَّ الْأَرْضَ

And it is He Who spread out the earth,

وَجَعَلَ فِيهَا رَوَاسِيَ وَأَنْهَارًا ۖ

and placed therein firm mountains and rivers

وَمِن كُلِّ الثَّمَرَاتِ جَعَلَ فِيهَا زَوْجَيْنِ اثْنَيْنِ ۖ

and of every kind of fruits He made Zawjain Ithnain (two in pairs)

يُغْشِي اللَّيْلَ النَّهَارَ ۚ

He brings the night as a cover over the day.

إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَآيَاتٍ لِّقَوْمٍ يَتَفَكَّرُونَ

Verily, in these things, there are Ayat (proofs, evidences, lessons, signs, etc.) for people who reflect.

وَهُوَ

وَفِي الْأَرْضِ قِطَعٌ مُّتَجَاوِرَاتٌ وَجَنَّاتٌ مِّنْ أَعْنَابٍ وَزَرْعٌ وَنَخِيلٌ صِنْوَانٌ وَغَيْرُ صِنْوَانٍ يُسْقَىٰ بِمَاءٍ وَاحِدٍ وَنُفَضِّلُ بَعْضَهَا عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ فِي الْأُكُلِ ۚ إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَآيَاتٍ لِّقَوْمٍ يَعْقِلُونَ ٤

[13:4] And in the earth are neighbouring tracts, and gardens of vines, and green crops (fields etc.), and date-palms, growing out two or three from a single stem root, or otherwise (one stem root for every palm), watered with the same water, yet some of them We make more excellent than others to eat. Verily, in these things, there are Ayat (proofs, evidences, lessons, signs) for the people who understand.

وَفِي الْأَرْضِ قِطَعٌ مُّتَجَاوِرَاتٌ

And in the earth are neighbouring tracts,

وَجَنَّاتٌ مِّنْ أَعْنَابٍ

and gardens of vines,

وَزَرْعٌ وَنَخِيلٌ

and green crops (fields etc.), and date-palms,

صِنْوَانٌ وَغَيْرُ صِنْوَانٍ

growing out two or three from a single stem root, or otherwise (one stem root for every palm),

يُسْقَىٰ بِمَاءٍ وَاحِدٍ

watered with the same water,

وَنُفَضِّلُ بَعْضَهَا عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ فِي الْأُكُلِ ۚ

yet some of them We make more excellent than others to eat.

إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَآيَاتٍ لِّقَوْمٍ يَعْقِلُونَ

Verily, in these things, there are Ayat (proofs, evidences, lessons, signs) for the people who understand.

۞ وَإِن تَعْجَبْ فَعَجَبٌ قَوْلُهُمْ أَإِذَا كُنَّا تُرَابًا أَإِنَّا لَفِي خَلْقٍ جَدِيدٍ ۗ أُولَٰئِكَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا بِرَبِّهِمْ ۖ وَأُولَٰئِكَ الْأَغْلَالُ فِي أَعْنَاقِهِمْ ۖ وَأُولَٰئِكَ أَصْحَابُ النَّارِ ۖ هُمْ فِيهَا خَالِدُونَ ٥

[13:5] And if you (O Muhammad SAW) wonder (at these polytheists who deny your message of Islamic Monotheism and have taken besides Allah others for worship who can neither harm nor benefit), then wondrous is their saying: "When we are dust, shall we indeed then be (raised) in a new creation?" They are those who disbelieve in their Lord! They are those who will have iron chains tying their hands to their necks. They will be dwellers of the Fire to abide therein.

۞ وَإِن تَعْجَبْ فَعَجَبٌ قَوْلُهُمْ

And if you (O Muhammad SAW) wonder, then wondrous is their saying:

أَإِذَا كُنَّا تُرَابًا

"When we are dust,

أَإِنَّا لَفِي خَلْقٍ جَدِيدٍ ۗ

shall we indeed then be (raised) in a new creation?"

أُولَٰئِكَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا بِرَبِّهِمْ ۖ

They are those who disbelieve in their Lord!

وَأُولَٰئِكَ الْأَغْلَالُ فِي أَعْنَاقِهِمْ ۖ

They are those who will have iron chains tying their hands to their necks.

وَأُولَٰئِكَ أَصْحَابُ النَّارِ ۖ

They will be dwellers of the Fire

هُمْ فِيهَا خَالِدُونَ

to abide therein.

وَيَسْتَعْجِلُونَكَ بِالسَّيِّئَةِ قَبْلَ الْحَسَنَةِ وَقَدْ خَلَتْ مِن قَبْلِهِمُ الْمَثُلَاتُ ۗ وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَذُو مَغْفِرَةٍ لِّلنَّاسِ عَلَىٰ ظُلْمِهِمْ ۖ وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَشَدِيدُ الْعِقَابِ ٦

[13:6] They ask you to hasten the evil before the good, yet (many) exemplary punishments have indeed occurred before them. But verily, your Lord is full of Forgiveness for mankind inspite of their wrong-doing. And verily, your Lord is (also) Severe in punishment.

وَيَسْتَعْجِلُونَكَ بِالسَّيِّئَةِ قَبْلَ الْحَسَنَةِ

They ask you to hasten the evil before the good

وَيَقُولُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا لَوْلَا أُنزِلَ عَلَيْهِ آيَةٌ مِّن رَّبِّهِ ۗ إِنَّمَا أَنتَ مُنذِرٌ ۖ وَلِكُلِّ قَوْمٍ هَادٍ ٧

[13:7] And the disbelievers say: "Why is not a sign sent down to him from his Lord?" You are only a warner, and to every people there is a guide.

وَيَقُولُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا

And the disbelievers say:

لَوْلَا أُنزِلَ عَلَيْهِ آيَةٌ مِّن رَّبِّهِ ۗ

"Why is not a sign sent down to him from his Lord?"

إِنَّمَا أَنتَ مُنذِرٌ ۖ

You are only a warner,

وَلِكُلِّ قَوْمٍ هَادٍ

and to every people there is a guide.

وَيَقُولُ

اللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ مَا تَحْمِلُ كُلُّ أُنثَىٰ وَمَا تَغِيضُ الْأَرْحَامُ وَمَا تَزْدَادُ ۖ وَكُلُّ شَيْءٍ عِندَهُ بِمِقْدَارٍ ٨

[13:8] Allah knows what every female bears, and by how much the wombs fall short (of their time or number) or exceed. Everything with Him is in (due) proportion.

اللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ

Allah knows

مَا تَحْمِلُ كُلُّ أُنثَىٰ

what every female bears

وَمَا تَغِيضُ الْأَرْحَامُ

and by how much the wombs fall short

وَمَا تَزْدَادُ ۖ

or exceed

وَكُلُّ شَيْءٍ عِندَهُ بِمِقْدَارٍ

Everything with Him is in (due) proportion

[13:9] All-Knower of the unseen and the seen, the Most Great, the Most High.

عَالِمُ الْغَيْبِ وَالشَّهَادَةِ

All-Knower of the unseen and the seen

الْكَبِيرُ الْمُتَعَالِ

the Most Great, the Most High

عَالِمُ

سَوَاءٌ مِّنكُم مَّنْ أَسَرَّ الْقَوْلَ وَمَن جَهَرَ بِهِ وَمَنْ هُوَ مُسْتَخْفٍ بِاللَّيْلِ وَسَارِبٌ بِالنَّهَارِ ١٠

[13:10] It is the same (to Him) whether any of you conceal his speech or declare it openly, whether he be hid by night or go forth freely by day.

سَوَاءٌ مِّنكُم

It is the same (to Him)

مَّنْ أَسَرَّ الْقَوْلَ وَمَن جَهَرَ بِهِ

whether any of you conceal his speech or declare it openly

وَمَنْ هُوَ مُسْتَخْفٍ بِاللَّيْلِ

whether he be hid by night

وَسَارِبٌ بِالنَّهَارِ

or go forth freely by day

سَوَاءٌ

لَهُ مُعَقِّبَاتٌ مِّن بَيْنِ يَدَيْهِ وَمِنْ خَلْفِهِ يَحْفَظُونَهُ مِنْ أَمْرِ اللَّهِ ۗ إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يُغَيِّرُ مَا بِقَوْمٍ حَتَّىٰ يُغَيِّرُوا مَا بِأَنفُسِهِمْ ۗ وَإِذَا أَرَادَ اللَّهُ بِقَوْمٍ سُوءًا فَلَا مَرَدَّ لَهُ ۚ وَمَا لَهُم مِّن دُونِهِ مِن وَالٍ ١١

[13:11] For each (person), there are angels in succession, before and behind him. They guard him by the Command of Allah. Verily! Allah will not change the good condition of a people as long as they do not change their state of goodness themselves (by committing sins and by being ungrateful and disobedient to Allah). But when Allah wills a people's punishment, there can be no turning back of it, and they will find besides Him no protector.

لَهُ مُعَقِّبَاتٌ مِّن بَيْنِ يَدَيْهِ وَمِنْ خَلْفِهِ

For each (person), there are angels in succession, before and behind him.

يَحْفَظُونَهُ مِنْ أَمْرِ اللَّهِ ۗ

They guard him by the Command of Allah.

إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يُغَيِّرُ مَا بِقَوْمٍ حَتَّىٰ يُغَيِّرُوا مَا بِأَنفُسِهِمْ ۗ

Verily! Allah will not change the good condition of a people as long as they do not change their state of goodness themselves.

وَإِذَا أَرَادَ اللَّهُ بِقَوْمٍ سُوءًا فَلَا مَرَدَّ لَهُ ۚ

But when Allah wills a people's punishment, there can be no turning back of it.

وَمَا لَهُم مِّن دُونِهِ مِن وَالٍ

and they will find besides Him no protector.

[13:12] It is He who shows you the lightning, as a fear (for travellers) and as a hope (for those who wait for rain). And it is He Who brings up (or originates) the clouds, heavy (with water).

هُوَ الَّذِي

[13:13] And Ar-Ra'd (thunder) glorifies and praises Him, and so do the angels because of His Awe, He sends the thunderbolts, and therewith He strikes whom He wills, yet they (disbelievers) dispute about Allah. And He is Mighty in strength and Severe in punishment.

لَهُ دَعْوَةُ الْحَقِّ ۖ وَالَّذِينَ يَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِهِ لَا يَسْتَجِيبُونَ لَهُم بِشَيْءٍ إِلَّا كَبَاسِطِ كَفَّيْهِ إِلَى الْمَاءِ لِيَبْلُغَ فَاهُ وَمَا هُوَ بِبَالِغِهِ ۚ وَمَا دُعَاءُ الْكَافِرِينَ إِلَّا فِي ضَلَالٍ ١٤

[13:14] For Him (Alone) is the Word of Truth (i.e. none has the right to be worshipped but He). And those whom they (polytheists and disbelievers) invoke, answer them no more than one who stretches forth his hand (at the edge of a deep well) for water to reach his mouth, but it reaches him not, and the invocation of the disbelievers is nothing but an error (i.e. of no use).

لَهُ دَعْوَةُ الْحَقِّ ۖ

For Him (Alone) is the Word of Truth

وَالَّذِينَ يَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِهِ

And those whom they (polytheists and disbelievers) invoke

لَا يَسْتَجِيبُونَ لَهُم بِشَيْءٍ

answer them no more than

إِلَّا كَبَاسِطِ كَفَّيْهِ إِلَى الْمَاءِ

one who stretches forth his hand (at the edge of a deep well) for water

لِيَبْلُغَ فَاهُ

to reach his mouth

وَمَا هُوَ بِبَالِغِهِ ۚ

but it reaches him not

وَمَا دُعَاءُ الْكَافِرِينَ

and the invocation of the disbelievers

إِلَّا فِي ضَلَالٍ

is nothing but an error (i.e. of no use)

[13:15] And unto Allah (Alone) falls in prostration whoever is in the heavens and the earth, willingly or unwillingly, and so do their shadows in the mornings and in the afternoons.

مَن فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ

whoever is in the heavens and the earth

طَوْعًا وَكَرْهًا

قُلْ مَن رَّبُّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ قُلِ اللَّهُ ۚ قُلْ أَفَاتَّخَذْتُم مِّن دُونِهِ أَوْلِيَاءَ لَا يَمْلِكُونَ لِأَنفُسِهِمْ نَفْعًا وَلَا ضَرًّا ۚ قُلْ هَلْ يَسْتَوِي الْأَعْمَىٰ وَالْبَصِيرُ أَمْ هَلْ تَسْتَوِي الظُّلُمَاتُ وَالنُّورُ ۗ أَمْ جَعَلُوا لِلَّهِ شُرَكَاءَ خَلَقُوا كَخَلْقِهِ فَتَشَابَهَ الْخَلْقُ عَلَيْهِمْ ۚ قُلِ اللَّهُ خَالِقُ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ وَهُوَ الْوَاحِدُ الْقَهَّارُ ١٦

[13:16] Say (O Muhammad SAW): "Who is the Lord of the heavens and the earth?" Say: "(It is) Allah." Say: "Have you then taken (for worship) Auliya' (protectors, etc.) other than Him, such as have no power either for benefit or for harm to themselves?" Say: "Is the blind equal to the one who sees? Or darkness equal to light? Or do they assign to Allah partners who created the like of His creation, so that the creation (which they made and His creation) seemed alike to them." Say: "Allah is the Creator of all things, He is the One, the Irresistible."

قُلْ مَن رَّبُّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ

Say (O Muhammad SAW): 'Who is the Lord of the heavens and the earth?'

قُلِ اللَّهُ ۚ

Say: '(It is) Allah.'

قُلْ أَفَاتَّخَذْتُم مِّن دُونِهِ أَوْلِيَاءَ

Say: 'Have you then taken (for worship) Auliya' (protectors, etc.) other than Him,'

لَا يَمْلِكُونَ لِأَنفُسِهِمْ نَفْعًا وَلَا ضَرًّا ۚ

such as have no power either for benefit or for harm to themselves?'

قُلْ هَلْ يَسْتَوِي الْأَعْمَىٰ وَالْبَصِيرُ

Say: 'Is the blind equal to the one who sees?'

أَمْ هَلْ تَسْتَوِي الظُّلُمَاتُ وَالنُّورُ ۗ

Or darkness equal to light?

أَمْ جَعَلُوا لِلَّهِ شُرَكَاءَ

Or do they assign to Allah partners

خَلَقُوا كَخَلْقِهِ

who created the like of His creation,

فَتَشَابَهَ الْخَلْقُ عَلَيْهِمْ ۚ

so that the creation (which they made and His creation) seemed alike to them.'

قُلِ اللَّهُ خَالِقُ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ

Say: 'Allah is the Creator of all things,'

وَهُوَ الْوَاحِدُ الْقَهَّارُ

He is the One, the Irresistible.

أَنزَلَ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ مَاءً فَسَالَتْ أَوْدِيَةٌ بِقَدَرِهَا فَاحْتَمَلَ السَّيْلُ زَبَدًا رَّابِيًا ۚ وَمِمَّا يُوقِدُونَ عَلَيْهِ فِي النَّارِ ابْتِغَاءَ حِلْيَةٍ أَوْ مَتَاعٍ زَبَدٌ مِّثْلُهُ ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ يَضْرِبُ اللَّهُ الْحَقَّ وَالْبَاطِلَ ۚ فَأَمَّا الزَّبَدُ فَيَذْهَبُ جُفَاءً ۖ وَأَمَّا مَا يَنفَعُ النَّاسَ فَيَمْكُثُ فِي الْأَرْضِ ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ يَضْرِبُ اللَّهُ الْأَمْثَالَ ١٧

[13:17] He sends down water (rain) from the sky, and the valleys flow according to their measure, but the flood bears away the foam that mounts up to the surface, and (also) from that (ore) which they heat in the fire in order to make ornaments or utensils, rises a foam like unto it, thus does Allah (by parables) show forth truth and falsehood. Then, as for the foam it passes away as scum upon the banks, while that which is for the good of mankind remains in the earth. Thus Allah sets forth parables (for the truth and falsehood, i.e. Belief and disbelief).

أَنزَلَ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ مَاءً

while that which is for the good of mankind remains in the earth.

كَذَٰلِكَ يَضْرِبُ اللَّهُ الْأَمْثَالَ

Thus Allah sets forth parables (for the truth and falsehood, i.e. Belief and disbelief).

[13:18] For those who answered their Lord's Call [believed in the Oneness of Allah and followed His Messenger Muhammad SAW i.e. Islamic Monotheism] is Al-Husna (i.e. Paradise). But those who answered not His Call (disbelieved in the Oneness of Allah and followed not His Messenger Muhammad SAW), if they had all that is in the earth together with its like, they would offer it in order to save themselves (from the torment, it will be in vain). For them there will be the terrible reckoning. Their dwelling place will be Hell; - and worst indeed is that place for rest.

لِلَّذِينَ اسْتَجَابُوا لِرَبِّهِمُ

For those who answered their Lord's Call

الْحُسْنَىٰ ۚ

is Al-Husna (i.e. Paradise)

وَالَّذِينَ لَمْ يَسْتَجِيبُوا لَهُ

But those who answered not His Call

لَوْ أَنَّ لَهُم مَّا فِي الْأَرْضِ جَمِيعًا وَمِثْلَهُ مَعَهُ

if they had all that is in the earth together with its like

لَافْتَدَوْا بِهِ ۚ

they would offer it in order to save themselves (from the torment, it will be in vain)

أُولَٰئِكَ لَهُمْ سُوءُ الْحِسَابِ

For them there will be the terrible reckoning

وَمَأْوَاهُمْ جَهَنَّمُ ۖ

Their dwelling place will be Hell

وَبِئْسَ الْمِهَادُ

and worst indeed is that place for rest

۞ أَفَمَن يَعْلَمُ أَنَّمَا أُنزِلَ إِلَيْكَ مِن رَّبِّكَ الْحَقُّ كَمَنْ هُوَ أَعْمَىٰ ۚ إِنَّمَا يَتَذَكَّرُ أُولُو الْأَلْبَابِ ١٩

[13:19] Shall he then who knows that what has been revealed unto you (O Muhammad SAW) from your Lord is the truth be like him who is blind? But it is only the men of understanding that pay heed.

۞ أَفَمَن يَعْلَمُ

Shall he then who knows

أَنَّمَا أُنزِلَ إِلَيْكَ مِن رَّبِّكَ الْحَقُّ

that what has been revealed unto you (O Muhammad SAW) from your Lord is the truth

كَمَنْ هُوَ أَعْمَىٰ ۚ

be like him who is blind?

إِنَّمَا يَتَذَكَّرُ أُولُو الْأَلْبَابِ

[13:21] Those who join that which Allah has commanded to be joined (i.e. they are good to their relatives and do not sever the bond of kinship), fear their Lord, and dread the terrible reckoning (i.e. abstain from all kinds of sins and evil deeds which Allah has forbidden and perform all kinds of good deeds which Allah has ordained).

وَالَّذِينَ يَصِلُونَ مَا أَمَرَ اللَّهُ بِهِ أَن يُوصَلَ

Those who join that which Allah has commanded to be joined (i.e. they are good to their relatives and do not sever the bond of kinship)

وَيَخْشَوْنَ رَبَّهُمْ

fear their Lord

وَيَخَافُونَ سُوءَ الْحِسَابِ

[13:22] And those who remain patient, seeking their Lord's Countenance, perform As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat), and spend out of that which We have bestowed on them, secretly and openly, and defend evil with good, for such there is a good end;

وَالَّذِينَ صَبَرُوا

And those who remain patient,

ابْتِغَاءَ وَجْهِ رَبِّهِمْ

seeking their Lord's Countenance,

وَأَقَامُوا الصَّلَاةَ

perform As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat),

وَأَنفَقُوا مِمَّا رَزَقْنَاهُمْ

and spend out of that which We have bestowed on them,

سِرًّا وَعَلَانِيَةً

secretly and openly,

وَيَدْرَءُونَ بِالْحَسَنَةِ السَّيِّئَةَ

and defend evil with good,

أُولَٰئِكَ لَهُمْ عُقْبَى الدَّارِ

for such there is a good end;

[13:23] 'Adn (Eden) Paradise (everlasting Gardens), which they shall enter and (also) those who acted righteously from among their fathers, and their wives, and their offspring. And angels shall enter unto them from every gate (saying):

جَنَّاتُ عَدْنٍ

‘Adn (Eden) Paradise (everlasting Gardens)

يَدْخُلُونَهَا

which they shall enter

وَمَن صَلَحَ مِنْ آبَائِهِمْ

and (also) those who acted righteously from among their fathers

وَأَزْوَاجِهِمْ

and their wives

وَذُرِّيَّاتِهِمْ ۖ

and their offspring

وَالْمَلَائِكَةُ يَدْخُلُونَ عَلَيْهِم مِّن كُلِّ بَابٍ

And angels shall enter unto them from every gate (saying)

[13:24] "Salamun 'Alaikum (peace be upon you) for that you persevered in patience! Excellent indeed is the final home!"

[13:25] And those who break the Covenant of Allah, after its ratification, and sever that which Allah has commanded to be joined (i.e. they sever the bond of kinship and are not good to their relatives), and work mischief in the land, on them is the curse (i.e. they will be far away from Allah's Mercy); And for them is the unhappy (evil) home (i.e. Hell).

وَالَّذِينَ يَنقُضُونَ عَهْدَ اللَّهِ

after its ratification,

[13:26] Allah increases the provision for whom He wills, and straitens (it for whom He wills), and they rejoice in the life of the world, whereas the life of this world as compared with the Hereafter is but a brief passing enjoyment.

اللَّهُ يَبْسُطُ الرِّزْقَ لِمَن يَشَاءُ

Allah increases the provision for whom He wills,

وَيَقْدِرُ ۚ

and straitens (it for whom He wills),

وَفَرِحُوا بِالْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا

and they rejoice in the life of the world,

وَمَا الْحَيَاةُ الدُّنْيَا فِي الْآخِرَةِ إِلَّا مَتَاعٌ

[13:27] And those who disbelieve say: "Why is not a sign sent down to him (Muhammad SAW) from his Lord?" Say: "Verily, Allah sends astray whom He wills and guides unto Himself those who turn to Him in repentance."

وَيَقُولُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا

And those who disbelieve say:

لَوْلَا أُنزِلَ عَلَيْهِ آيَةٌ مِّن رَّبِّهِ ۗ

"Why is not a sign sent down to him (Muhammad SAW) from his Lord?"

قُلْ

Say:

إِنَّ اللَّهَ يُضِلُّ مَن يَشَاءُ

"Verily, Allah sends astray whom He wills

وَيَهْدِي إِلَيْهِ مَنْ أَنَابَ

and guides unto Himself those who turn to Him in repentance."

[13:28] Those who believe (in the Oneness of Allah - Islamic Monotheism), and whose hearts find rest in the remembrance of Allah, Verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest.

الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا

Those who believe (in the Oneness of Allah - Islamic Monotheism)

وَتَطْمَئِنُّ قُلُوبُهُم بِذِكْرِ اللَّهِ ۗ

and whose hearts find rest in the remembrance of Allah

أَلَا بِذِكْرِ اللَّهِ تَطْمَئِنُّ الْقُلُوبُ

Verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest

الَّذِينَ

[13:29] Those who believe (in the Oneness of Allah - Islamic Monotheism), and work righteousness, Tuba (it means all kinds of happiness or name of a tree in Paradise) is for them and a beautiful place of (final) return.

الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا

Those who believe (in the Oneness of Allah - Islamic Monotheism)

وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ

and work righteousness

طُوبَىٰ لَهُمْ

Tuba (it means all kinds of happiness or name of a tree in Paradise) is for them

وَحُسْنُ مَآبٍ

and a beautiful place of (final) return

الَّذِينَ

كَذَٰلِكَ أَرْسَلْنَاكَ فِي أُمَّةٍ قَدْ خَلَتْ مِن قَبْلِهَا أُمَمٌ لِّتَتْلُوَ عَلَيْهِمُ الَّذِي أَوْحَيْنَا إِلَيْكَ وَهُمْ يَكْفُرُونَ بِالرَّحْمَٰنِ ۚ قُلْ هُوَ رَبِّي لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ عَلَيْهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ وَإِلَيْهِ مَتَابِ ٣٠

[13:30] Thus have We sent you (O Muhammad SAW) to a community before whom other communities have passed away, in order that you might recite unto them what We have inspired to you, while they disbelieve in the Most Beneficient (Allah) Say: "He is my Lord! La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He)! In Him is my trust, and to Him will be my return with repentance."

كَذَٰلِكَ أَرْسَلْنَاكَ فِي أُمَّةٍ

Thus have We sent you (O Muhammad SAW) to a community

قَدْ خَلَتْ مِن قَبْلِهَا أُمَمٌ

before whom other communities have passed away

لِّتَتْلُوَ عَلَيْهِمُ الَّذِي أَوْحَيْنَا إِلَيْكَ

in order that you might recite unto them what We have inspired to you

وَهُمْ يَكْفُرُونَ بِالرَّحْمَٰنِ ۚ

while they disbelieve in the Most Beneficient (Allah)

قُلْ هُوَ رَبِّي

Say: 'He is my Lord!'

لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ

La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He)!

عَلَيْهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ

In Him is my trust

وَإِلَيْهِ مَتَابِ

and to Him will be my return with repentance.

وَلَوْ أَنَّ قُرْآنًا سُيِّرَتْ بِهِ الْجِبَالُ أَوْ قُطِّعَتْ بِهِ الْأَرْضُ أَوْ كُلِّمَ بِهِ الْمَوْتَىٰ ۗ بَل لِّلَّهِ الْأَمْرُ جَمِيعًا ۗ أَفَلَمْ يَيْأَسِ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا أَن لَّوْ يَشَاءُ اللَّهُ لَهَدَى النَّاسَ جَمِيعًا ۗ وَلَا يَزَالُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا تُصِيبُهُم بِمَا صَنَعُوا قَارِعَةٌ أَوْ تَحُلُّ قَرِيبًا مِّن دَارِهِمْ حَتَّىٰ يَأْتِيَ وَعْدُ اللَّهِ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يُخْلِفُ الْمِيعَادَ ٣١

[13:31] And if there had been a Quran with which mountains could be moved (from their places), or the earth could be cloven asunder, or the dead could be made to speak (it would not have been other than this Quran). But the decision of all things is certainly with Allah. Have not then those who believe yet known that had Allah willed, He could have guided all mankind? And a disaster will not cease to strike those who disbelieve because of their (evil) deeds or it (i.e. the disaster) settle close to their homes, until the Promise of Allah comes to pass. Certainly, Allah does not fail in His Promise.

وَلَوْ أَنَّ قُرْآنًا سُيِّرَتْ بِهِ الْجِبَالُ

And if there had been a Quran with which mountains could be moved (from their places),

أَوْ قُطِّعَتْ بِهِ الْأَرْضُ

or the earth could be cloven asunder,

أَوْ كُلِّمَ بِهِ الْمَوْتَىٰ ۗ

or the dead could be made to speak (it would not have been other than this Quran).

بَل لِّلَّهِ الْأَمْرُ جَمِيعًا ۗ

But the decision of all things is certainly with Allah.

أَفَلَمْ يَيْأَسِ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا

Have not then those who believe yet known that

أَن لَّوْ يَشَاءُ اللَّهُ لَهَدَى النَّاسَ جَمِيعًا ۗ

had Allah willed, He could have guided all mankind?

وَلَا يَزَالُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا تُصِيبُهُم بِمَا صَنَعُوا قَارِعَةٌ

And a disaster will not cease to strike those who disbelieve because of their (evil) deeds

أَوْ تَحُلُّ قَرِيبًا مِّن دَارِهِمْ

or it (i.e. the disaster) settle close to their homes,

حَتَّىٰ يَأْتِيَ وَعْدُ اللَّهِ ۚ

until the Promise of Allah comes to pass.

إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يُخْلِفُ الْمِيعَادَ

Certainly, Allah does not fail in His Promise.

[13:32] And indeed (many) Messengers were mocked at before you (O Muhammad SAW), but I granted respite to those who disbelieved, and finally I punished them. Then how (terrible) was My Punishment!

وَلَقَدِ اسْتُهْزِئَ بِرُسُلٍ مِّن قَبْلِكَ

And indeed (many) Messengers were mocked at before you (O Muhammad SAW),

فَأَمْلَيْتُ لِلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا

but I granted respite to those who disbelieved,

ثُمَّ أَخَذْتُهُمْ ۖ

and finally I punished them.

فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عِقَابِ

Then how (terrible) was My Punishment!

وَلَقَدِ

أَفَمَنْ هُوَ قَائِمٌ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ نَفْسٍ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ ۗ وَجَعَلُوا لِلَّهِ شُرَكَاءَ قُلْ سَمُّوهُمْ ۚ أَمْ تُنَبِّئُونَهُ بِمَا لَا يَعْلَمُ فِي الْأَرْضِ أَم بِظَاهِرٍ مِّنَ الْقَوْلِ ۗ بَلْ زُيِّنَ لِلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا مَكْرُهُمْ وَصُدُّوا عَنِ السَّبِيلِ ۗ وَمَن يُضْلِلِ اللَّهُ فَمَا لَهُ مِنْ هَادٍ ٣٣

[13:33] Is then He (Allah) Who takes charge (guards, maintains, provides, etc.) of every person and knows all that he has earned (like any other deities who know nothing)? Yet they ascribe partners to Allah. Say: "Name them! Is it that you will inform Him of something He knows not in the earth or is it (just) a show of false words." Nay! To those who disbelieve, their plotting is made fairseeming, and they have been hindered from the Right Path, and whom Allah sends astray, for him, there is no guide.

أَفَمَنْ هُوَ قَائِمٌ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ نَفْسٍ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ ۗ

Is then He (Allah) Who takes charge (guards, maintains, provides, etc.) of every person and knows all that he has earned

وَجَعَلُوا لِلَّهِ شُرَكَاءَ

Yet they ascribe partners to Allah.

قُلْ سَمُّوهُمْ ۚ

Say: 'Name them!'

أَمْ تُنَبِّئُونَهُ بِمَا لَا يَعْلَمُ فِي الْأَرْضِ

Is it that you will inform Him of something He knows not in the earth

أَم بِظَاهِرٍ مِّنَ الْقَوْلِ ۗ

or is it (just) a show of false words.

بَلْ زُيِّنَ لِلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا مَكْرُهُمْ

Nay! To those who disbelieve, their plotting is made fairseeming,

وَصُدُّوا عَنِ السَّبِيلِ ۗ

and they have been hindered from the Right Path,

وَمَن يُضْلِلِ اللَّهُ فَمَا لَهُ مِنْ هَادٍ

and whom Allah sends astray, for him, there is no guide.

[13:34] For them is a torment in the life of this world, and certainly, harder is the torment of the Hereafter. And they have no protector against Allah.

لَّهُمْ عَذَابٌ فِي الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا ۖ

For them is a torment in the life of this world

وَلَعَذَابُ الْآخِرَةِ أَشَقُّ ۖ

and certainly, harder is the torment of the Hereafter

وَمَا لَهُم مِّنَ اللَّهِ مِن وَاقٍ

And they have no protector against Allah

لَّهُمْ

۞ مَّثَلُ الْجَنَّةِ الَّتِي وُعِدَ الْمُتَّقُونَ ۖ تَجْرِي مِن تَحْتِهَا الْأَنْهَارُ ۖ أُكُلُهَا دَائِمٌ وَظِلُّهَا ۚ تِلْكَ عُقْبَى الَّذِينَ اتَّقَوا ۖ وَّعُقْبَى الْكَافِرِينَ النَّارُ ٣٥

[13:35] The description of the Paradise which the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2): have been promised! -Underneath it rivers flow, its provision is eternal and so is its shade, this is the end (final destination) of the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2), and the end (final destination) of the disbelievers is Fire. (See Verse 47:15)

۞ مَّثَلُ الْجَنَّةِ الَّتِي وُعِدَ الْمُتَّقُونَ ۖ

The description of the Paradise which the Muttaqun (pious) have been promised!

تَجْرِي مِن تَحْتِهَا الْأَنْهَارُ ۖ

Underneath it rivers flow,

أُكُلُهَا دَائِمٌ وَظِلُّهَا ۚ

its provision is eternal and so is its shade,

تِلْكَ عُقْبَى الَّذِينَ اتَّقَوا ۖ

this is the end (final destination) of the Muttaqun (pious),

وَّعُقْبَى الْكَافِرِينَ النَّارُ

and the end (final destination) of the disbelievers is Fire.

وَالَّذِينَ آتَيْنَاهُمُ الْكِتَابَ يَفْرَحُونَ بِمَا أُنزِلَ إِلَيْكَ ۖ وَمِنَ الْأَحْزَابِ مَن يُنكِرُ بَعْضَهُ ۚ قُلْ إِنَّمَا أُمِرْتُ أَنْ أَعْبُدَ اللَّهَ وَلَا أُشْرِكَ بِهِ ۚ إِلَيْهِ أَدْعُو وَإِلَيْهِ مَآبِ ٣٦

[13:36] Those to whom We have given the Book (such as 'Abdullah bin Salam and other Jews who embraced Islam), rejoice at what has been revealed unto you (i.e. the Quran), but there are among the Confederates (from the Jews and pagans) those who reject a part thereof. Say (O Muhammad SAW): "I am commanded only to worship Allah (Alone) and not to join partners with Him. To Him (Alone) I call and to Him is my return."

وَالَّذِينَ آتَيْنَاهُمُ الْكِتَابَ

Those to whom We have given the Book

يَفْرَحُونَ بِمَا أُنزِلَ إِلَيْكَ ۖ

rejoice at what has been revealed unto you

وَمِنَ الْأَحْزَابِ مَن يُنكِرُ بَعْضَهُ ۚ

but there are among the Confederates those who reject a part thereof

قُلْ إِنَّمَا أُمِرْتُ أَنْ أَعْبُدَ اللَّهَ

Say (O Muhammad SAW): 'I am commanded only to worship Allah'

وَلَا أُشْرِكَ بِهِ ۚ

and not to join partners with Him

إِلَيْهِ أَدْعُو

To Him (Alone) I call

وَإِلَيْهِ مَآبِ

and to Him is my return

وَالَّذِينَ

[13:37] And thus have We sent it (the Quran) down to be a judgement of authority in Arabic. Were you (O Muhammad SAW) to follow their (vain) desires after the knowledge which has come to you, then you will not have any Wali (protector) or defender against Allah.

وَكَذَٰلِكَ أَنزَلْنَاهُ

And thus have We sent it (the Quran) down

حُكْمًا عَرَبِيًّا ۚ

to be a judgement of authority in Arabic.

وَلَئِنِ اتَّبَعْتَ أَهْوَاءَهُم

Were you (O Muhammad SAW) to follow their (vain) desires

بَعْدَ مَا جَاءَكَ مِنَ الْعِلْمِ

after the knowledge which has come to you,

مَا لَكَ مِنَ اللَّهِ مِن وَلِيٍّ وَلَا وَاقٍ

then you will not have any Wali (protector) or defender against Allah.

وَكَذَٰلِكَ

وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا رُسُلًا مِّن قَبْلِكَ وَجَعَلْنَا لَهُمْ أَزْوَاجًا وَذُرِّيَّةً ۚ وَمَا كَانَ لِرَسُولٍ أَن يَأْتِيَ بِآيَةٍ إِلَّا بِإِذْنِ اللَّهِ ۗ لِكُلِّ أَجَلٍ كِتَابٌ ٣٨

[13:38] And indeed We sent Messengers before you (O Muhammad SAW), and made for them wives and offspring. And it was not for a Messenger to bring a sign except by Allah's Leave. (For) each and every matter there is a Decree (from Allah).

وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا رُسُلًا مِّن قَبْلِكَ

And indeed We sent Messengers before you (O Muhammad SAW),

وَجَعَلْنَا لَهُمْ أَزْوَاجًا وَذُرِّيَّةً ۚ

and made for them wives and offspring.

وَمَا كَانَ لِرَسُولٍ أَن يَأْتِيَ بِآيَةٍ إِلَّا بِإِذْنِ اللَّهِ ۗ

And it was not for a Messenger to bring a sign except by Allah's Leave.

لِكُلِّ أَجَلٍ كِتَابٌ

(For) each and every matter there is a Decree (from Allah).

وَلَقَدْ

يَمْحُو اللَّهُ مَا يَشَاءُ وَيُثْبِتُ ۖ وَعِندَهُ أُمُّ الْكِتَابِ ٣٩

[13:39] Allah blots out what He wills and confirms (what He wills). And with Him is the Mother of the Book (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz)

يَمْحُو اللَّهُ مَا يَشَاءُ

Allah blots out what He wills

وَيُثْبِتُ ۖ

and confirms (what He wills)

وَعِندَهُ أُمُّ الْكِتَابِ

And with Him is the Mother of the Book (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz)

يَمْحُو

وَإِن مَّا نُرِيَنَّكَ بَعْضَ الَّذِي نَعِدُهُمْ أَوْ نَتَوَفَّيَنَّكَ فَإِنَّمَا عَلَيْكَ الْبَلَاغُ وَعَلَيْنَا الْحِسَابُ ٤٠

[13:40] Whether We show you (O Muhammad SAW) part of what We have promised them or cause you to die, your duty is only to convey (the Message) and on Us is the reckoning.

وَإِن مَّا نُرِيَنَّكَ

Whether We show you

بَعْضَ الَّذِي نَعِدُهُمْ

part of what We have promised them

أَوْ نَتَوَفَّيَنَّكَ

or cause you to die

فَإِنَّمَا عَلَيْكَ الْبَلَاغُ

your duty is only to convey (the Message)

وَعَلَيْنَا الْحِسَابُ

and on Us is the reckoning

أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا أَنَّا نَأْتِي الْأَرْضَ نَنقُصُهَا مِنْ أَطْرَافِهَا ۚ وَاللَّهُ يَحْكُمُ لَا مُعَقِّبَ لِحُكْمِهِ ۚ وَهُوَ سَرِيعُ الْحِسَابِ ٤١

[13:41] See they not that We gradually reduce the land (of disbelievers, by giving it to the believers, in war victories) from its outlying borders. And Allah judges, there is none to put back His Judgement and He is Swift at reckoning.

أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا

See they not

أَنَّا نَأْتِي الْأَرْضَ نَنقُصُهَا مِنْ أَطْرَافِهَا ۚ

that We gradually reduce the land (of disbelievers, by giving it to the believers, in war victories) from its outlying borders.

وَاللَّهُ يَحْكُمُ

And Allah judges,

لَا مُعَقِّبَ لِحُكْمِهِ ۚ

there is none to put back His Judgement

وَهُوَ سَرِيعُ الْحِسَابِ

and He is Swift at reckoning.

وَقَدْ مَكَرَ الَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ فَلِلَّهِ الْمَكْرُ جَمِيعًا ۖ يَعْلَمُ مَا تَكْسِبُ كُلُّ نَفْسٍ ۗ وَسَيَعْلَمُ الْكُفَّارُ لِمَنْ عُقْبَى الدَّارِ ٤٢

[13:42] And verily, those before them did devise plots, but all planning is Allah's. He knows what every person earns, and the disbelievers will know who gets the good end (final destination).

وَقَدْ مَكَرَ الَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ

And verily, those before them did devise plots,

فَلِلَّهِ الْمَكْرُ جَمِيعًا ۖ

but all planning is Allah's.

يَعْلَمُ مَا تَكْسِبُ كُلُّ نَفْسٍ ۗ

He knows what every person earns,

وَسَيَعْلَمُ الْكُفَّارُ لِمَنْ عُقْبَى الدَّارِ

and the disbelievers will know who gets the good end (final destination).

وَيَقُولُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا لَسْتَ مُرْسَلًا ۚ قُلْ كَفَىٰ بِاللَّهِ شَهِيدًا بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَكُمْ وَمَنْ عِندَهُ عِلْمُ الْكِتَابِ ٤٣

[13:43] And those who disbelieve, say: "You (O Muhammad SAW) are not a Messenger." Say: "Sufficient for a witness between me and you is Allah and those too who have knowledge of the Scripture (such as 'Abdullah bin Salam and other Jews and Christians who embraced Islam)."

وَيَقُولُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا

And those who disbelieve, say:

لَسْتَ مُرْسَلًا ۚ

"You (O Muhammad SAW) are not a Messenger."

قُلْ كَفَىٰ بِاللَّهِ شَهِيدًا

Say: "Sufficient for a witness is Allah

بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَكُمْ

between me and you

وَمَنْ عِندَهُ عِلْمُ الْكِتَابِ

and those too who have knowledge of the Scripture (such as 'Abdullah bin Salam and other Jews and Christians who embraced Islam).

وَيَقُولُ
