إِذَا جَاءَكَ الْمُنَافِقُونَ قَالُوا نَشْهَدُ إِنَّكَ لَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ ۗ وَاللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ إِنَّكَ لَرَسُولُهُ وَاللَّهُ يَشْهَدُ إِنَّ الْمُنَافِقِينَ لَكَاذِبُونَ ١

[63:1] When the hypocrites come to you (O Muhammad SAW), they say: "We bear witness that you are indeed the Messenger of Allah." Allah knows that you are indeed His Messenger and Allah bears witness that the hypocrites are liars indeed.

إِذَا جَاءَكَ الْمُنَافِقُونَ
When the hypocrites come to you
قَالُوا نَشْهَدُ
they say: 'We bear witness'
إِنَّكَ لَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ ۗ
that you are indeed the Messenger of Allah.
وَاللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ
Allah knows

[63:2] They have made their oaths a screen (for their hypocrisy). Thus they hinder (men) from the Path of Allah. Verily, evil is what they used to do.

[63:3] That is because they believed, then disbelieved, therefore their hearts are sealed, so they understand not.

[63:4] And when you look at them, their bodies please you; and when they speak, you listen to their words. They are as blocks of wood propped up. They think that every cry is against them. They are the enemies, so beware of them. May Allah curse them! How are they denying (or deviating from) the Right Path.

۞ وَإِذَا رَأَيْتَهُمْ
And when you look at them,
تُعْجِبُكَ أَجْسَامُهُمْ ۖ
their bodies please you;
وَإِن يَقُولُوا
and when they speak,
تَسْمَعْ لِقَوْلِهِمْ ۖ
you listen to their words.
كَأَنَّهُمْ خُشُبٌ مُّسَنَّدَةٌ ۖ

[63:5] And when it is said to them: "Come, so that the Messenger of Allah may ask forgiveness from Allah for you", they turn aside their heads, and you would see them turning away their faces in pride.

Come, so that the Messenger of Allah may ask forgiveness from Allah for you

[63:6] It is equal to them whether you (Muhammad SAW) ask forgiveness or ask not forgiveness for them, Allah will never forgive them. Verily, Allah guides not the people who are the Fasiqin (rebellious, disobedient to Allah).

whether you (Muhammad SAW) ask forgiveness for them
أَمْ لَمْ تَسْتَغْفِرْ لَهُمْ

Verily, Allah will not forgive them

The Futile Schemes Against the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and the Believers in Al-Madinah

The Arrogance and Ignorance of the Hypocrites — Verses 7–8

هُمُ الَّذِينَ يَقُولُونَ لَا تُنفِقُوا عَلَىٰ مَنْ عِندَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ حَتَّىٰ يَنفَضُّوا ۗ وَلِلَّهِ خَزَائِنُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَلَٰكِنَّ الْمُنَافِقِينَ لَا يَفْقَهُونَ ٧

[63:7] They are the ones who say: "Spend not on those who are with Allah's Messenger, until they desert him." And to Allah belong the treasures of the heavens and the earth, but the hypocrites comprehend not.

[63:8] They (hyprocrites) say: "If we return to Al-Madinah, indeed the more honourable ('Abdullah bin Ubai bin Salul, the chief of hyprocrites at Al-Madinah) will expel therefrom the meaner (i.e. Allah's Messenger SAW)." But honour, power and glory belong to Allah, His Messenger (Muhammad SAW), and to the believers, but the hypocrites know not.

يَقُولُونَ
They (hypocrites) say:
لَئِن رَّجَعْنَا إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ
If we return to Al-Madinah,
لَيُخْرِجَنَّ الْأَعَزُّ مِنْهَا الْأَذَلَّ ۚ
indeed the more honourable ('Abdullah bin Ubai bin Salul, the chief of hypocrites at Al-Madinah) will expel therefrom the meaner (i.e. Allah's Messenger SAW).
وَلِلَّهِ الْعِزَّةُ
But honour, power and glory belong to Allah,
وَلِرَسُولِهِ
His Messenger (Muhammad SAW),
وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
and to the believers,

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لَا تُلْهِكُمْ أَمْوَالُكُمْ وَلَا أَوْلَادُكُمْ عَن ذِكْرِ اللَّهِ ۚ وَمَن يَفْعَلْ ذَٰلِكَ فَأُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْخَاسِرُونَ ٩

[63:9] O you who believe! Let not your properties or your children divert you from the remembrance of Allah. And whosoever does that, then they are the losers.

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لَا
O you who believe!
تُلْهِكُمْ أَمْوَالُكُمْ وَلَا
Let not your properties divert you
أَوْلَادُكُمْ عَن
or your children
ذِكْرِ اللَّهِ ۚ وَمَن
from the remembrance of Allah.
يَفْعَلْ ذَٰلِكَ فَأُولَٰئِكَ
And whosoever does that,
هُمُ الْخَاسِرُونَ
then they are the losers.

وَأَنفِقُوا مِن مَّا رَزَقْنَاكُم مِّن قَبْلِ أَن يَأْتِيَ أَحَدَكُمُ الْمَوْتُ فَيَقُولَ رَبِّ لَوْلَا أَخَّرْتَنِي إِلَىٰ أَجَلٍ قَرِيبٍ فَأَصَّدَّقَ وَأَكُن مِّنَ الصَّالِحِينَ ١٠

[63:10] And spend (in charity) of that with which We have provided you, before death comes to one of you and he says: "My Lord! If only You would give me respite for a little while (i.e. return to the worldly life), then I should give Sadaqah (i.e. Zakat) of my wealth, and be among the righteous [i.e. perform Hajj (pilgrimage to Makkah)].

وَأَنفِقُوا مِن مَّا رَزَقْنَاكُم
And spend (in charity) of that with which We have provided you,
مِّن قَبْلِ أَن يَأْتِيَ أَحَدَكُمُ الْمَوْتُ
before death comes to one of you
فَيَقُولَ رَبِّ
and he says: 'My Lord!'
لَوْلَا أَخَّرْتَنِي إِلَىٰ أَجَلٍ قَرِيبٍ
If only You would give me respite for a little while
فَأَصَّدَّقَ وَأَكُن مِّنَ الصَّالِحِينَ
then I should give Sadaqah (i.e. Zakat) of my wealth, and be among the righteous.

وَلَن يُؤَخِّرَ اللَّهُ نَفْسًا إِذَا جَاءَ أَجَلُهَا ۚ وَاللَّهُ خَبِيرٌ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ ١١

[63:11] And Allah grants respite to none when his appointed time (death) comes. And Allah is All-Aware of what you do.

وَلَن يُؤَخِّرَ اللَّهُ نَفْسًا
And Allah grants respite to none
إِذَا جَاءَ أَجَلُهَا ۚ
when his appointed time (death) comes.
وَاللَّهُ خَبِيرٌ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ
And Allah is All-Aware of what you do.

[63:1] When the hypocrites come to you (O Muhammad SAW), they say: "We bear witness that you are indeed the Messenger of Allah." Allah knows that you are indeed His Messenger and Allah bears witness that the hypocrites are liars indeed.

إِذَا جَاءَكَ الْمُنَافِقُونَ
When the hypocrites come to you
قَالُوا نَشْهَدُ
they say: 'We bear witness'
إِنَّكَ لَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ ۗ
that you are indeed the Messenger of Allah.
وَاللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ
Allah knows
إِنَّكَ لَرَسُولُهُ
that you are indeed His Messenger
وَاللَّهُ يَشْهَدُ

[63:4] And when you look at them, their bodies please you; and when they speak, you listen to their words. They are as blocks of wood propped up. They think that every cry is against them. They are the enemies, so beware of them. May Allah curse them! How are they denying (or deviating from) the Right Path.

۞ وَإِذَا رَأَيْتَهُمْ
And when you look at them,
تُعْجِبُكَ أَجْسَامُهُمْ ۖ
their bodies please you;
وَإِن يَقُولُوا
and when they speak,
تَسْمَعْ لِقَوْلِهِمْ ۖ
you listen to their words.
كَأَنَّهُمْ خُشُبٌ مُّسَنَّدَةٌ ۖ

يَحْسَبُونَ كُلَّ صَيْحَةٍ عَلَيْهِمْ ۚ

هُمُ الْعَدُوُّ فَاحْذَرْهُمْ ۚ

[63:6] It is equal to them whether you (Muhammad SAW) ask forgiveness or ask not forgiveness for them, Allah will never forgive them. Verily, Allah guides not the people who are the Fasiqin (rebellious, disobedient to Allah).

سَوَاءٌ عَلَيْهِمْ

أَسْتَغْفَرْتَ لَهُمْ
whether you (Muhammad SAW) ask forgiveness for them
أَمْ لَمْ تَسْتَغْفِرْ لَهُمْ

[63:8] They (hyprocrites) say: "If we return to Al-Madinah, indeed the more honourable ('Abdullah bin Ubai bin Salul, the chief of hyprocrites at Al-Madinah) will expel therefrom the meaner (i.e. Allah's Messenger SAW)." But honour, power and glory belong to Allah, His Messenger (Muhammad SAW), and to the believers, but the hypocrites know not.

يَقُولُونَ
They (hypocrites) say:
لَئِن رَّجَعْنَا إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ
If we return to Al-Madinah,
لَيُخْرِجَنَّ الْأَعَزُّ مِنْهَا الْأَذَلَّ ۚ
indeed the more honourable ('Abdullah bin Ubai bin Salul, the chief of hypocrites at Al-Madinah) will expel therefrom the meaner (i.e. Allah's Messenger SAW).
وَلِلَّهِ الْعِزَّةُ
But honour, power and glory belong to Allah,
وَلِرَسُولِهِ
His Messenger (Muhammad SAW),
وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
and to the believers,

Let not your properties divert you
أَوْلَادُكُمْ عَن
or your children

يَفْعَلْ ذَٰلِكَ فَأُولَٰئِكَ
And whosoever does that,

If only You would give me respite for a little while (i.e. return to the worldly life), then I should give Sadaqah (i.e. Zakat) of my wealth, and be among the righteous [i.e. perform Hajj (pilgrimage to Makkah)].

And spend (in charity) of that with which We have provided you,

[63:11] And Allah grants respite to none when his appointed time (death) comes. And Allah is All-Aware of what you do.

وَلَن يُؤَخِّرَ اللَّهُ نَفْسًا
And Allah grants respite to none
إِذَا جَاءَ أَجَلُهَا ۚ
when his appointed time (death) comes.
وَاللَّهُ خَبِيرٌ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ
And Allah is All-Aware of what you do.
