يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لَا تُقَدِّمُوا بَيْنَ يَدَيِ اللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ ۖ وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌ ١

[49:1] O you who believe! Do not put (yourselves) forward before Allah and His Messenger (SAW), and fear Allah. Verily! Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لَا

O you who believe!

تُقَدِّمُوا بَيْنَ يَدَيِ اللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ ۖ وَاتَّقُوا

Do not put (yourselves) forward before Allah and His Messenger (SAW),

اللَّهَ ۚ إِنَّ

and fear Allah.

اللَّهَ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌ

Verily! Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.

يَا أَيُّهَا

[49:2] O you who believe! Raise not your voices above the voice of the Prophet (SAW), nor speak aloud to him in talk as you speak aloud to one another, lest your deeds may be rendered fruitless while you perceive not.

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لَا

O you who believe!

تَرْفَعُوا أَصْوَاتَكُمْ فَوْقَ صَوْتِ النَّبِيِّ وَلَا

Raise not your voices above the voice of the Prophet (SAW),

تَجْهَرُوا لَهُ بِالْقَوْلِ كَجَهْرِ بَعْضِكُمْ لِبَعْضٍ أَن

تَحْبَطَ أَعْمَالُكُمْ وَأَنتُمْ لَا تَشْعُرُونَ

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَغُضُّونَ أَصْوَاتَهُمْ عِندَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ أُولَٰئِكَ الَّذِينَ امْتَحَنَ اللَّهُ قُلُوبَهُمْ لِلتَّقْوَىٰ ۚ لَهُم مَّغْفِرَةٌ وَأَجْرٌ عَظِيمٌ ٣

[49:3] Verily! Those who lower their voices in the presence of Allah's Messenger (SAW), they are the ones whose hearts Allah has tested for piety. For them is forgiveness and a great reward.

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَغُضُّونَ أَصْوَاتَهُمْ

Verily! Those who lower their voices

عِندَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ

in the presence of Allah's Messenger (SAW),

أُولَٰئِكَ الَّذِينَ امْتَحَنَ اللَّهُ قُلُوبَهُمْ

they are the ones whose hearts Allah has tested

لِلتَّقْوَىٰ ۚ

for piety.

لَهُم مَّغْفِرَةٌ وَأَجْرٌ عَظِيمٌ

For them is forgiveness and a great reward.

إِنَّ

[49:4] Verily! Those who call you from behind the dwellings, most of them have no sense.

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يُنَادُونَكَ

أَكْثَرُهُمْ

most of them

لَا يَعْقِلُونَ

[49:5] And if they had patience till you could come out to them, it would have been better for them. And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

وَلَوْ أَنَّهُمْ صَبَرُوا

And if they had patience

حَتَّىٰ تَخْرُجَ إِلَيْهِمْ

till you could come out to them

لَكَانَ خَيْرًا لَّهُمْ ۚ

it would have been better for them.

وَاللَّهُ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ

And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

وَلَوْ

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِن جَاءَكُمْ فَاسِقٌ بِنَبَإٍ فَتَبَيَّنُوا أَن تُصِيبُوا قَوْمًا بِجَهَالَةٍ فَتُصْبِحُوا عَلَىٰ مَا فَعَلْتُمْ نَادِمِينَ ٦

[49:6] O you who believe! If a rebellious evil person comes to you with a news, verify it, lest you harm people in ignorance, and afterwards you become regretful to what you have done.

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِن

O you who believe!

جَاءَكُمْ فَاسِقٌ بِنَبَإٍ فَتَبَيَّنُوا

If a rebellious evil person comes to you with a news,

أَن

verify it,

تُصِيبُوا قَوْمًا بِجَهَالَةٍ فَتُصْبِحُوا

lest you harm people in ignorance,

عَلَىٰ مَا فَعَلْتُمْ نَادِمِينَ

and afterwards you become regretful to what you have done.

وَاعْلَمُوا أَنَّ فِيكُمْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ۚ لَوْ يُطِيعُكُمْ فِي كَثِيرٍ مِّنَ الْأَمْرِ لَعَنِتُّمْ وَلَٰكِنَّ اللَّهَ حَبَّبَ إِلَيْكُمُ الْإِيمَانَ وَزَيَّنَهُ فِي قُلُوبِكُمْ وَكَرَّهَ إِلَيْكُمُ الْكُفْرَ وَالْفُسُوقَ وَالْعِصْيَانَ ۚ أُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الرَّاشِدُونَ ٧

[49:7] And know that, among you there is the Messenger of Allah (SAW). If he were to obey you (i.e. follow your opinions and desires) in much of the matter, you would surely be in trouble, but Allah has endeared the Faith to you and has beautified it in your hearts, and has made disbelief, wickedness and disobedience (to Allah and His Messenger SAW) hateful to you. These! They are the rightly guided ones,

وَاعْلَمُوا أَنَّ فِيكُمْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ۚ

And know that, among you there is the Messenger of Allah (SAW).

لَوْ يُطِيعُكُمْ فِي كَثِيرٍ مِّنَ الْأَمْرِ

If he were to obey you (i.e. follow your opinions and desires) in much of the matter,

لَعَنِتُّمْ

you would surely be in trouble,

وَلَٰكِنَّ اللَّهَ حَبَّبَ إِلَيْكُمُ الْإِيمَانَ

but Allah has endeared the Faith to you

وَزَيَّنَهُ فِي قُلُوبِكُمْ

and has beautified it in your hearts,

وَكَرَّهَ إِلَيْكُمُ الْكُفْرَ وَالْفُسُوقَ وَالْعِصْيَانَ ۚ

and has made disbelief, wickedness and disobedience (to Allah and His Messenger SAW) hateful to you.

أُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الرَّاشِدُونَ

These! They are the rightly guided ones.

[49:8] (This is) a Grace from Allah and His Favour. And Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.

فَضْلًا مِّنَ اللَّهِ وَنِعْمَةً ۚ

(This is) a Grace from Allah and His Favour.

وَاللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٌ

And Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.

فَضْلًا

وَإِن طَائِفَتَانِ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ اقْتَتَلُوا فَأَصْلِحُوا بَيْنَهُمَا ۖ فَإِن بَغَتْ إِحْدَاهُمَا عَلَى الْأُخْرَىٰ فَقَاتِلُوا الَّتِي تَبْغِي حَتَّىٰ تَفِيءَ إِلَىٰ أَمْرِ اللَّهِ ۚ فَإِن فَاءَتْ فَأَصْلِحُوا بَيْنَهُمَا بِالْعَدْلِ وَأَقْسِطُوا ۖ إِنَّ اللَّهَ يُحِبُّ الْمُقْسِطِينَ ٩

[49:9] And if two parties or groups among the believers fall to fighting, then make peace between them both, but if one of them rebels against the other, then fight you (all) against the one that which rebels till it complies with the Command of Allah; then if it complies, then make reconciliation between them justly, and be equitable. Verily! Allah loves those who are equitable.

وَإِن طَائِفَتَانِ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ اقْتَتَلُوا

And if two parties or groups among the believers fall to fighting,

فَأَصْلِحُوا بَيْنَهُمَا ۖ

then make peace between them both,

فَإِن بَغَتْ إِحْدَاهُمَا عَلَى الْأُخْرَىٰ

but if one of them rebels against the other,

فَقَاتِلُوا الَّتِي تَبْغِي

then fight you (all) against the one that rebels

حَتَّىٰ تَفِيءَ إِلَىٰ أَمْرِ اللَّهِ ۚ

till it complies with the Command of Allah;

فَإِن فَاءَتْ

then if it complies,

فَأَصْلِحُوا بَيْنَهُمَا بِالْعَدْلِ

then make reconciliation between them justly,

وَأَقْسِطُوا ۖ

and be equitable.

إِنَّ اللَّهَ يُحِبُّ الْمُقْسِطِينَ

Verily! Allah loves those who are equitable.

وَإِن

[49:10] The believers are nothing else than brothers (in Islamic religion). So make reconciliation between your brothers, and fear Allah, that you may receive mercy.

إِنَّمَا الْمُؤْمِنُونَ

The believers are nothing else than

إِخْوَةٌ

brothers (in Islamic religion).

فَأَصْلِحُوا بَيْنَ أَخَوَيْكُمْ ۚ

So make reconciliation between your brothers,

وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ

and fear Allah,

لَعَلَّكُمْ تُرْحَمُونَ

that you may receive mercy.

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لَا يَسْخَرْ قَوْمٌ مِّن قَوْمٍ عَسَىٰ أَن يَكُونُوا خَيْرًا مِّنْهُمْ وَلَا نِسَاءٌ مِّن نِّسَاءٍ عَسَىٰ أَن يَكُنَّ خَيْرًا مِّنْهُنَّ ۖ وَلَا تَلْمِزُوا أَنفُسَكُمْ وَلَا تَنَابَزُوا بِالْأَلْقَابِ ۖ بِئْسَ الِاسْمُ الْفُسُوقُ بَعْدَ الْإِيمَانِ ۚ وَمَن لَّمْ يَتُبْ فَأُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الظَّالِمُونَ ١١

[49:11] O you who believe! Let not a group scoff at another group, it may be that the latter are better than the former; nor let (some) women scoff at other women, it may be that the latter are better than the former, nor defame one another, nor insult one another by nicknames. How bad is it, to insult one's brother after having Faith [i.e. to call your Muslim brother (a faithful believer) as: "O sinner", or "O wicked", etc.]. And whosoever does not repent, then such are indeed Zalimun (wrong-doers, etc.).

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لَا

O you who believe!

يَسْخَرْ قَوْمٌ مِّن قَوْمٍ عَسَىٰ

Let not a group scoff at another group,

أَن يَكُونُوا خَيْرًا مِّنْهُمْ وَلَا

it may be that the latter are better than the former;

نِسَاءٌ مِّن نِّسَاءٍ عَسَىٰ

nor let (some) women scoff at other women,

أَن يَكُنَّ خَيْرًا مِّنْهُنَّ ۖ وَلَا

it may be that the latter are better than the former,

تَلْمِزُوا أَنفُسَكُمْ وَلَا

nor defame one another,

تَنَابَزُوا بِالْأَلْقَابِ ۖ بِئْسَ

nor insult one another by nicknames.

الِاسْمُ الْفُسُوقُ بَعْدَ الْإِيمَانِ ۚ وَمَن

How bad is it, to insult one's brother after having Faith

لَّمْ يَتُبْ فَأُولَٰئِكَ

And whosoever does not repent,

هُمُ الظَّالِمُونَ

then such are indeed Zalimun (wrong-doers, etc.).

يَا أَيُّهَا

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اجْتَنِبُوا كَثِيرًا مِّنَ الظَّنِّ إِنَّ بَعْضَ الظَّنِّ إِثْمٌ ۖ وَلَا تَجَسَّسُوا وَلَا يَغْتَب بَّعْضُكُم بَعْضًا ۚ أَيُحِبُّ أَحَدُكُمْ أَن يَأْكُلَ لَحْمَ أَخِيهِ مَيْتًا فَكَرِهْتُمُوهُ ۚ وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ تَوَّابٌ رَّحِيمٌ ١٢

[49:12] O you who believe! Avoid much suspicions, indeed some suspicions are sins. And spy not, neither backbite one another. Would one of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? You would hate it (so hate backbiting). And fear Allah. Verily, Allah is the One Who accepts repentance, Most Merciful.

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اجْتَنِبُوا

O you who believe!

كَثِيرًا مِّنَ الظَّنِّ إِنَّ

Avoid much suspicions,

بَعْضَ الظَّنِّ إِثْمٌ ۖ وَلَا

indeed some suspicions are sins.

تَجَسَّسُوا وَلَا

And spy not,

يَغْتَب بَّعْضُكُم بَعْضًا ۚ أَيُحِبُّ

neither backbite one another.

أَحَدُكُمْ أَن يَأْكُلَ لَحْمَ أَخِيهِ مَيْتًا فَكَرِهْتُمُوهُ ۚ

Would one of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother?

وَاتَّقُوا

You would hate it (so hate backbiting).

اللَّهَ ۚ إِنَّ

And fear Allah.

اللَّهَ تَوَّابٌ رَّحِيمٌ

Verily, Allah is the One Who accepts repentance, Most Merciful.

يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنَّا خَلَقْنَاكُم مِّن ذَكَرٍ وَأُنثَىٰ وَجَعَلْنَاكُمْ شُعُوبًا وَقَبَائِلَ لِتَعَارَفُوا ۚ إِنَّ أَكْرَمَكُمْ عِندَ اللَّهِ أَتْقَاكُمْ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَلِيمٌ خَبِيرٌ ١٣

[49:13] O mankind! We have created you from a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that you may know one another. Verily, the most honourable of you with Allah is that (believer) who has At-Taqwa [i.e. one of the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2). Verily, Allah is All-Knowing, All-Aware.

يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنَّا

O mankind!

خَلَقْنَاكُم مِّن ذَكَرٍ وَأُنثَىٰ وَجَعَلْنَاكُمْ

We have created you from a male and a female,

شُعُوبًا وَقَبَائِلَ لِتَعَارَفُوا ۚ

and made you into nations and tribes,

إِنَّ

that you may know one another.

أَكْرَمَكُمْ عِندَ اللَّهِ أَتْقَاكُمْ ۚ

Verily, the most honourable of you with Allah is

إِنَّ

that (believer) who has At-Taqwa

اللَّهَ عَلِيمٌ خَبِيرٌ

Verily, Allah is All-Knowing, All-Aware.

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لَا يَسْخَرْ قَوْمٌ مِّن قَوْمٍ عَسَىٰ أَن يَكُونُوا خَيْرًا مِّنْهُمْ وَلَا نِسَاءٌ مِّن نِّسَاءٍ عَسَىٰ أَن يَكُنَّ خَيْرًا مِّنْهُنَّ ۖ وَلَا تَلْمِزُوا أَنفُسَكُمْ وَلَا تَنَابَزُوا بِالْأَلْقَابِ ۖ بِئْسَ الِاسْمُ الْفُسُوقُ بَعْدَ الْإِيمَانِ ۚ وَمَن لَّمْ يَتُبْ فَأُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الظَّالِمُونَ ١١

[49:11] O you who believe! Let not a group scoff at another group, it may be that the latter are better than the former; nor let (some) women scoff at other women, it may be that the latter are better than the former, nor defame one another, nor insult one another by nicknames. How bad is it, to insult one's brother after having Faith [i.e. to call your Muslim brother (a faithful believer) as: "O sinner", or "O wicked", etc.]. And whosoever does not repent, then such are indeed Zalimun (wrong-doers, etc.).

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لَا

O you who believe!

يَسْخَرْ قَوْمٌ مِّن قَوْمٍ عَسَىٰ

Let not a group scoff at another group,

أَن يَكُونُوا خَيْرًا مِّنْهُمْ وَلَا

it may be that the latter are better than the former;

نِسَاءٌ مِّن نِّسَاءٍ عَسَىٰ

nor let (some) women scoff at other women,

أَن يَكُنَّ خَيْرًا مِّنْهُنَّ ۖ وَلَا

it may be that the latter are better than the former,

تَلْمِزُوا أَنفُسَكُمْ وَلَا

nor defame one another,

تَنَابَزُوا بِالْأَلْقَابِ ۖ بِئْسَ

nor insult one another by nicknames.

الِاسْمُ الْفُسُوقُ بَعْدَ الْإِيمَانِ ۚ وَمَن

How bad is it, to insult one's brother after having Faith

لَّمْ يَتُبْ فَأُولَٰئِكَ

And whosoever does not repent,

هُمُ الظَّالِمُونَ

then such are indeed Zalimun (wrong-doers, etc.).

[49:14] The bedouins say: "We believe." Say: "You believe not but you only say, 'We have surrendered (in Islam),' for Faith has not yet entered your hearts. But if you obey Allah and His Messenger (SAW), He will not decrease anything in reward for your deeds. Verily, Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful."

۞ قَالَتِ الْأَعْرَابُ آمَنَّا ۖ

The bedouins say: 'We believe.'

قُل لَّمْ تُؤْمِنُوا

Say: 'You believe not'

وَلَٰكِن قُولُوا أَسْلَمْنَا

but you only say, 'We have surrendered (in Islam),'

وَلَمَّا يَدْخُلِ الْإِيمَانُ فِي قُلُوبِكُمْ ۖ

for Faith has not yet entered your hearts.

وَإِن تُطِيعُوا اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ

But if you obey Allah and His Messenger (SAW),

لَا يَلِتْكُم مِّنْ أَعْمَالِكُمْ شَيْئًا ۚ

[49:15] Only those are the believers who have believed in Allah and His Messenger, and afterward doubt not but strive with their wealth and their lives for the Cause of Allah. Those! They are the truthful.

إِنَّمَا الْمُؤْمِنُونَ

Only those are the believers

الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا بِاللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ

who have believed in Allah and His Messenger

ثُمَّ لَمْ يَرْتَابُوا

and afterward doubt not

وَجَاهَدُوا بِأَمْوَالِهِمْ وَأَنفُسِهِمْ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ ۚ

but strive with their wealth and their lives for the Cause of Allah

أُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الصَّادِقُونَ

Those! They are the truthful

قُلْ أَتُعَلِّمُونَ اللَّهَ بِدِينِكُمْ وَاللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الْأَرْضِ ۚ وَاللَّهُ بِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ عَلِيمٌ ١٦

[49:16] Say: "Will you inform Allah about your religion? While Allah knows all that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth, and Allah is All-Aware of everything.

قُلْ أَتُعَلِّمُونَ اللَّهَ بِدِينِكُمْ

Say: 'Will you inform Allah about your religion?'

وَاللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الْأَرْضِ ۚ

While Allah knows all that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth,

وَاللَّهُ بِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ عَلِيمٌ

and Allah is All-Aware of everything.

يَمُنُّونَ عَلَيْكَ أَنْ أَسْلَمُوا ۖ قُل لَّا تَمُنُّوا عَلَيَّ إِسْلَامَكُم ۖ بَلِ اللَّهُ يَمُنُّ عَلَيْكُمْ أَنْ هَدَاكُمْ لِلْإِيمَانِ إِن كُنتُمْ صَادِقِينَ ١٧

[49:17] They regard as favour upon you (O Muhammad SAW) that they have embraced Islam. Say: "Count not your Islam as a favour upon me. Nay, but Allah has conferred a favour upon you, that He has guided you to the Faith, if you indeed are true.

يَمُنُّونَ عَلَيْكَ أَنْ أَسْلَمُوا ۖ

They regard as favour upon you (O Muhammad SAW) that they have embraced Islam.

قُل لَّا تَمُنُّوا عَلَيَّ إِسْلَامَكُم ۖ

Say: 'Count not your Islam as a favour upon me.'

بَلِ اللَّهُ يَمُنُّ عَلَيْكُمْ

Nay, but Allah has conferred a favour upon you,

أَنْ هَدَاكُمْ لِلْإِيمَانِ

that He has guided you to the Faith,

إِن كُنتُمْ صَادِقِينَ

if you indeed are true.

[49:18] Verily, Allah knows the unseen of the heavens and the earth. And Allah is the All-Seer of what you do.

إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَعْلَمُ غَيْبَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ ۚ

Verily, Allah knows the unseen of the heavens and the earth.

وَاللَّهُ بَصِيرٌ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ

And Allah is the All-Seer of what you do.
