[89:15] As for man, when his Lord tries him by giving him honour and gifts, then he says (puffed up): "My Lord has honoured me."

فَأَمَّا الْإِنسَانُ

[89:15] As for man, when his Lord tries him by giving him honour and gifts, then he says (puffed up): "My Lord has honoured me."

فَأَمَّا الْإِنسَانُ

إِذَا مَا ابْتَلَاهُ رَبُّهُ
when his Lord tries him
فَأَكْرَمَهُ وَنَعَّمَهُ
by giving him honour and gifts,
فَيَقُولُ
then he says (puffed up):
رَبِّي أَكْرَمَنِ
"My Lord has honoured me."

[89:23] And Hell will be brought near that Day. On that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance (then) avail him?

وَجِيءَ يَوْمَئِذٍ بِجَهَنَّمَ ۚ
And Hell will be brought near that Day.
يَوْمَئِذٍ يَتَذَكَّرُ الْإِنسَانُ
On that Day will man remember,
وَأَنَّىٰ لَهُ الذِّكْرَىٰ
but how will that remembrance (then) avail him?
