ص ۚ وَالْقُرْآنِ ذِي الذِّكْرِ ١

Sad [These letters (Sad etc.) are one of the miracles of the Quran and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. By the Quran full of reminding.

وَالْقُرْآنِ ذِي الذِّكْرِ

By the Quran full of reminding

بَلِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا فِي عِزَّةٍ وَشِقَاقٍ ٢

Nay, those who desbelieve are in false pride and opposition.

بَلِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا

Nay, those who disbelieve

فِي عِزَّةٍ وَشِقَاقٍ

are in false pride and opposition

كَمْ أَهْلَكْنَا مِن قَبْلِهِم مِّن قَرْنٍ فَنَادَوا وَّلَاتَ حِينَ مَنَاصٍ ٣

How many a generation We have destroyed before them, and they cried out when there was no longer time for escape!

كَمْ أَهْلَكْنَا مِن قَبْلِهِم مِّن قَرْنٍ

How many a generation We have destroyed before them

فَنَادَوا

and they cried out

وَّلَاتَ حِينَ مَنَاصٍ

when there was no longer time for escape

وَعَجِبُوا أَن جَاءَهُم مُّنذِرٌ مِّنْهُمْ ۖ وَقَالَ الْكَافِرُونَ هَٰذَا سَاحِرٌ كَذَّابٌ ٤

And they (Arab pagans) wonder that a warner (Prophet Muhammad SAW) has come to them from among themselves! And the disbelievers say: "This (Prophet Muhammad SAW) is a sorcerer, a liar.

وَعَجِبُوا

And they wonder

أَن جَاءَهُم مُّنذِرٌ مِّنْهُمْ ۖ

that a warner has come to them from among themselves!

وَقَالَ الْكَافِرُونَ

And the disbelievers say:

هَٰذَا سَاحِرٌ كَذَّابٌ

This is a sorcerer, a liar.

أَجَعَلَ الْآلِهَةَ إِلَٰهًا وَاحِدًا ۖ إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَشَيْءٌ عُجَابٌ ٥

"Has he made the aliha (gods) (all) into One Ilah (God - Allah). Verily, this is a curious thing!"

أَجَعَلَ الْآلِهَةَ

Has he made the aliha (gods)

إِلَٰهًا وَاحِدًا ۖ

into One Ilah (God - Allah)

إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَشَيْءٌ عُجَابٌ

Verily, this is a curious thing!

وَانطَلَقَ الْمَلَأُ مِنْهُمْ أَنِ امْشُوا وَاصْبِرُوا عَلَىٰ آلِهَتِكُمْ ۖ إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَشَيْءٌ يُرَادُ ٦

And the leaders among them went about (saying): "Go on, and remain constant to your aliha (gods)! Verily, This is a thing designed (against you)!

وَانطَلَقَ الْمَلَأُ مِنْهُمْ

And the leaders among them went about

أَنِ امْشُوا وَاصْبِرُوا عَلَىٰ آلِهَتِكُمْ ۖ

saying: 'Go on, and remain constant to your aliha (gods)!'

إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَشَيْءٌ يُرَادُ

Verily, This is a thing designed (against you)!

مَا سَمِعْنَا بِهَٰذَا فِي الْمِلَّةِ الْآخِرَةِ إِنْ هَٰذَا إِلَّا اخْتِلَاقٌ ٧

"We have not heard (the like) of this among the people of these later days. This is nothing but an invention!

مَا سَمِعْنَا بِهَٰذَا

We have not heard (the like) of this

فِي الْمِلَّةِ الْآخِرَةِ

among the people of these later days.

إِنْ هَٰذَا إِلَّا اخْتِلَاقٌ

This is nothing but an invention!

أَأُنزِلَ عَلَيْهِ الذِّكْرُ مِن بَيْنِنَا ۚ بَلْ هُمْ فِي شَكٍّ مِّن ذِكْرِي ۖ بَل لَّمَّا يَذُوقُوا عَذَابِ ٨

"Has the Reminder been sent down to him (alone) from among us?" Nay! but they are in doubt about My Reminder (this Quran)! Nay, but they have not tasted (My) Torment!

أَأُنزِلَ عَلَيْهِ الذِّكْرُ مِن بَيْنِنَا ۚ

Has the Reminder been sent down to him (alone) from among us?

بَلْ هُمْ فِي شَكٍّ مِّن ذِكْرِي ۖ

Nay! but they are in doubt about My Reminder (this Quran)!

بَل لَّمَّا يَذُوقُوا عَذَابِ

Nay, but they have not tasted (My) Torment!

أَمْ عِندَهُمْ خَزَائِنُ رَحْمَةِ رَبِّكَ الْعَزِيزِ الْوَهَّابِ ٩

Or have they the treasures of the Mercy of your Lord, the All-Mighty, the Real Bestower?

أَمْ عِندَهُمْ

Or have they

خَزَائِنُ رَحْمَةِ رَبِّكَ

the treasures of the Mercy of your Lord

الْعَزِيزِ الْوَهَّابِ

the All-Mighty, the Real Bestower

أَمْ لَهُم مُّلْكُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا ۖ فَلْيَرْتَقُوا فِي الْأَسْبَابِ ١٠

Or is it that the dominion of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them is theirs? If so, let them ascend up with means (to the heavens)!

أَمْ لَهُم

Or is it that

مُّلْكُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا ۖ

the dominion of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them is theirs?

فَلْيَرْتَقُوا فِي الْأَسْبَابِ

If so, let them ascend up with means (to the heavens)!

جُندٌ مَّا هُنَالِكَ مَهْزُومٌ مِّنَ الْأَحْزَابِ ١١

(As they denied Allah's Message) they will be a defeated host like the confederates of the old times (who were defeated).

جُندٌ مَّا هُنَالِكَ

مَهْزُومٌ

will be defeated

مِّنَ الْأَحْزَابِ

who were defeated
