وَلَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا الْإِنسَانَ وَنَعْلَمُ مَا تُوَسْوِسُ بِهِ نَفْسُهُ ۖ وَنَحْنُ أَقْرَبُ إِلَيْهِ مِنْ حَبْلِ الْوَرِيدِ ١٦

And indeed We have created man, and We know what his ownself whispers to him. And We are nearer to him than his jugular vein (by Our Knowledge).

وَلَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا الْإِنسَانَ

And indeed We have created man,

وَنَعْلَمُ مَا تُوَسْوِسُ بِهِ نَفْسُهُ ۖ

and We know what his ownself whispers to him.

وَنَحْنُ أَقْرَبُ إِلَيْهِ

And We are nearer to him

مِنْ حَبْلِ الْوَرِيدِ

than his jugular vein (by Our Knowledge).

إِذْ يَتَلَقَّى الْمُتَلَقِّيَانِ عَنِ الْيَمِينِ وَعَنِ الشِّمَالِ قَعِيدٌ ١٧

(Remember!) that the two receivers (recording angels) receive (each human being after he or she has attained the age of puberty), one sitting on the right and one on the left (to note his or her actions).

إِذْ يَتَلَقَّى الْمُتَلَقِّيَانِ

(Remember!) that the two receivers (recording angels) receive

عَنِ الْيَمِينِ وَعَنِ الشِّمَالِ

one sitting on the right and one on the left

قَعِيدٌ

(to note his or her actions)

مَّا يَلْفِظُ مِن قَوْلٍ إِلَّا لَدَيْهِ رَقِيبٌ عَتِيدٌ ١٨

Not a word does he (or she) utter, but there is a watcher by him ready (to record it).

مَّا يَلْفِظُ

Not a word does he (or she) utter

مِن قَوْلٍ

of speech

إِلَّا لَدَيْهِ

but there is by him

رَقِيبٌ عَتِيدٌ

a watcher ready (to record it)
