وَلَقَدْ جَاءَتْ رُسُلُنَا إِبْرَاهِيمَ بِالْبُشْرَىٰ قَالُوا سَلَامًا ۖ قَالَ سَلَامٌ ۖ فَمَا لَبِثَ أَن جَاءَ بِعِجْلٍ حَنِيذٍ ٦٩

And verily, there came Our Messengers to Ibrahim (Abraham) with glad tidings. They said: Salam (greetings or peace!) He answered, Salam (greetings or peace!) and he hastened to entertain them with a roasted calf.

وَلَقَدْ جَاءَتْ رُسُلُنَا إِبْرَاهِيمَ بِالْبُشْرَىٰ
And verily, there came Our Messengers to Ibrahim (Abraham) with glad tidings.
قَالُوا سَلَامًا ۖ
They said: Salam (greetings or peace!)
قَالَ سَلَامٌ ۖ
He answered, Salam (greetings or peace!)
فَمَا لَبِثَ أَن جَاءَ بِعِجْلٍ حَنِيذٍ
and he hastened to entertain them with a roasted calf.

فَلَمَّا رَأَىٰ أَيْدِيَهُمْ لَا تَصِلُ إِلَيْهِ نَكِرَهُمْ وَأَوْجَسَ مِنْهُمْ خِيفَةً ۚ قَالُوا لَا تَخَفْ إِنَّا أُرْسِلْنَا إِلَىٰ قَوْمِ لُوطٍ ٧٠

But when he saw their hands went not towards it (the meal), he felt some mistrust of them, and conceived a fear of them. They said: "Fear not, we have been sent against the people of Lout (Lot)."

فَلَمَّا رَأَىٰ أَيْدِيَهُمْ لَا تَصِلُ إِلَيْهِ
But when he saw their hands went not towards it (the meal)
نَكِرَهُمْ وَأَوْجَسَ مِنْهُمْ خِيفَةً ۚ
he felt some mistrust of them, and conceived a fear of them.
قَالُوا لَا تَخَفْ
They said: 'Fear not,'
إِنَّا أُرْسِلْنَا إِلَىٰ قَوْمِ لُوطٍ
we have been sent against the people of Lout (Lot).

وَامْرَأَتُهُ قَائِمَةٌ فَضَحِكَتْ فَبَشَّرْنَاهَا بِإِسْحَاقَ وَمِن وَرَاءِ إِسْحَاقَ يَعْقُوبَ ٧١

And his wife was standing (there), and she laughed (either, because the Messengers did not eat their food or for being glad for the destruction of the people of Lout (Lot). But We gave her glad tidings of Ishaque (Isaac), and after him, of Ya'qub (Jacob).

وَامْرَأَتُهُ قَائِمَةٌ
And his wife was standing (there)
فَضَحِكَتْ
and she laughed
فَبَشَّرْنَاهَا بِإِسْحَاقَ
But We gave her glad tidings of Ishaque (Isaac)
وَمِن وَرَاءِ إِسْحَاقَ يَعْقُوبَ
and after him, of Ya'qub (Jacob)

قَالَتْ يَا وَيْلَتَىٰ أَأَلِدُ وَأَنَا عَجُوزٌ وَهَٰذَا بَعْلِي شَيْخًا ۖ إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَشَيْءٌ عَجِيبٌ ٧٢

She said (in astonishment): "Woe unto me! Shall I bear a child while I am an old woman, and here is my husband, an old man? Verily! This is a strange thing!"

قَالَتْ يَا وَيْلَتَىٰ
Woe unto me!
أَأَلِدُ وَأَنَا عَجُوزٌ
Shall I bear a child while I am an old woman?
وَهَٰذَا بَعْلِي شَيْخًا ۖ
and here is my husband, an old man?
إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَشَيْءٌ عَجِيبٌ
Verily! This is a strange thing!

قَالُوا أَتَعْجَبِينَ مِنْ أَمْرِ اللَّهِ ۖ رَحْمَتُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ عَلَيْكُمْ أَهْلَ الْبَيْتِ ۚ إِنَّهُ حَمِيدٌ مَّجِيدٌ ٧٣

They said: "Do you wonder at the Decree of Allah? The Mercy of Allah and His Blessings be on you, O the family [of Ibrahim (Abraham)]. Surely, He (Allah) is All-Praiseworthy, All-Glorious."

قَالُوا
They said:
أَتَعْجَبِينَ مِنْ أَمْرِ اللَّهِ ۖ
Do you wonder at the Decree of Allah?
رَحْمَتُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ عَلَيْكُمْ
The Mercy of Allah and His Blessings be on you,
أَهْلَ الْبَيْتِ ۚ
O the family [of Ibrahim (Abraham)].
إِنَّهُ حَمِيدٌ مَّجِيدٌ
Surely, He (Allah) is All-Praiseworthy, All-Glorious.

فَلَمَّا ذَهَبَ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الرَّوْعُ وَجَاءَتْهُ الْبُشْرَىٰ يُجَادِلُنَا فِي قَوْمِ لُوطٍ ٧٤

Then when the fear had gone away from (the mind of) Ibrahim (Abraham), and the glad tidings had reached him, he began to plead with Us (Our Messengers) for the people of Lout (Lot).

فَلَمَّا ذَهَبَ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الرَّوْعُ
Then when the fear had gone away from (the mind of) Ibrahim (Abraham)
وَجَاءَتْهُ الْبُشْرَىٰ
and the glad tidings had reached him
يُجَادِلُنَا فِي قَوْمِ لُوطٍ
he began to plead with Us (Our Messengers) for the people of Lout (Lot)

إِنَّ إِبْرَاهِيمَ لَحَلِيمٌ أَوَّاهٌ مُّنِيبٌ ٧٥

Verily, Ibrahim (Abraham) was, without doubt, forbearing, used to invoke Allah with humility, and was repentant (to Allah all the time, again and again).

إِنَّ إِبْرَاهِيمَ
Verily, Ibrahim (Abraham)
لَحَلِيمٌ
was, without doubt, forbearing
أَوَّاهٌ
used to invoke Allah with humility
مُّنِيبٌ
and was repentant (to Allah all the time, again and again)

يَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ أَعْرِضْ عَنْ هَٰذَا ۖ إِنَّهُ قَدْ جَاءَ أَمْرُ رَبِّكَ ۖ وَإِنَّهُمْ آتِيهِمْ عَذَابٌ غَيْرُ مَرْدُودٍ ٧٦

"O Ibrahim (Abraham)! Forsake this. Indeed, the Commandment of your Lord has gone forth. Verily, there will come a torment for them which cannot be turned back."

يَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ أَعْرِضْ
O Ibrahim (Abraham)!
عَنْ هَٰذَا ۖ إِنَّهُ
Forsake this.
قَدْ جَاءَ أَمْرُ رَبِّكَ ۖ وَإِنَّهُمْ
Indeed, the Commandment of your Lord has gone forth.
آتِيهِمْ عَذَابٌ غَيْرُ مَرْدُودٍ
Verily, there will come a torment for them which cannot be turned back.
