وَلَمَّا جَاءَتْ رُسُلُنَا لُوطًا سِيءَ بِهِمْ وَضَاقَ بِهِمْ ذَرْعًا وَقَالَ هَٰذَا يَوْمٌ عَصِيبٌ ٧٧
And when Our Messengers came to Lout (Lot), he was grieved on their account and felt himself straitened for them (lest the town people should approach them to commit sodomy with them). He said: "This is a distressful day."
- وَلَمَّا جَاءَتْ رُسُلُنَا لُوطًا
- And when Our Messengers came to Lout (Lot)
- سِيءَ بِهِمْ وَضَاقَ بِهِمْ ذَرْعًا
- he was grieved on their account and felt himself straitened for them
- وَقَالَ هَٰذَا يَوْمٌ عَصِيبٌ
- He said: 'This is a distressful day.'
وَجَاءَهُ قَوْمُهُ يُهْرَعُونَ إِلَيْهِ وَمِن قَبْلُ كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ السَّيِّئَاتِ ۚ قَالَ يَا قَوْمِ هَٰؤُلَاءِ بَنَاتِي هُنَّ أَطْهَرُ لَكُمْ ۖ فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَلَا تُخْزُونِ فِي ضَيْفِي ۖ أَلَيْسَ مِنكُمْ رَجُلٌ رَّشِيدٌ ٧٨
And his people came rushing towards him, and since aforetime they used to commit crimes (sodomy, etc.), he said: "O my people! Here are my daughters (i.e. the daughters of my nation), they are purer for you (if you marry them lawfully). So fear Allah and degrade me not as regards my guests! Is there not among you a single right-minded man?"
- وَجَاءَهُ قَوْمُهُ يُهْرَعُونَ إِلَيْهِ
- And his people came rushing towards him,
- وَمِن قَبْلُ كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ السَّيِّئَاتِ ۚ
- and since aforetime they used to commit crimes (sodomy, etc.),
- قَالَ يَا قَوْمِ هَٰؤُلَاءِ بَنَاتِي هُنَّ
- he said: 'O my people! Here are my daughters (i.e. the daughters of my nation),
- أَطْهَرُ لَكُمْ ۖ فَاتَّقُوا
- they are purer for you (if you marry them lawfully).
- اللَّهَ وَلَا تُخْزُونِ فِي ضَيْفِي ۖ أَلَيْسَ
- So fear Allah and degrade me not as regards my guests!
- مِنكُمْ رَجُلٌ رَّشِيدٌ
- Is there not among you a single right-minded man?
قَالُوا لَقَدْ عَلِمْتَ مَا لَنَا فِي بَنَاتِكَ مِنْ حَقٍّ وَإِنَّكَ لَتَعْلَمُ مَا نُرِيدُ ٧٩
They said: "Surely you know that we have neither any desire nor in need of your daughters, and indeed you know well what we want!"
- قَالُوا
- They said:
- لَقَدْ عَلِمْتَ
- Surely you know that
- مَا لَنَا فِي بَنَاتِكَ مِنْ حَقٍّ
- we have neither any desire nor in need of your daughters,
- وَإِنَّكَ لَتَعْلَمُ
- and indeed you know well
- مَا نُرِيدُ
- what we want!
قَالَ لَوْ أَنَّ لِي بِكُمْ قُوَّةً أَوْ آوِي إِلَىٰ رُكْنٍ شَدِيدٍ ٨٠
He said: "Would that I had strength (men) to overpower you, or that I could betake myself to some powerful support (to resist you)."
- قَالَ
- He said:
- لَوْ أَنَّ لِي بِكُمْ قُوَّةً
- Would that I had strength (men) to overpower you,
- أَوْ آوِي إِلَىٰ رُكْنٍ شَدِيدٍ
- or that I could betake myself to some powerful support (to resist you).
قَالُوا يَا لُوطُ إِنَّا رُسُلُ رَبِّكَ لَن يَصِلُوا إِلَيْكَ ۖ فَأَسْرِ بِأَهْلِكَ بِقِطْعٍ مِّنَ اللَّيْلِ وَلَا يَلْتَفِتْ مِنكُمْ أَحَدٌ إِلَّا امْرَأَتَكَ ۖ إِنَّهُ مُصِيبُهَا مَا أَصَابَهُمْ ۚ إِنَّ مَوْعِدَهُمُ الصُّبْحُ ۚ أَلَيْسَ الصُّبْحُ بِقَرِيبٍ ٨١
They (Messengers) said: "O Lout (Lot)! Verily, we are the Messengers from your Lord! They shall not reach you! So travel with your family in a part of the night, and let not any of you look back, but your wife (will remain behind), verily, the punishment which will afflict them, will afflict her. Indeed, morning is their appointed time. Is not the morning near?"
- قَالُوا يَا لُوطُ إِنَّا
- They (Messengers) said: 'O Lout (Lot)!'
- رُسُلُ رَبِّكَ لَن
- Verily, we are the Messengers from your Lord!
- يَصِلُوا إِلَيْكَ ۖ فَأَسْرِ
- They shall not reach you!
- بِأَهْلِكَ بِقِطْعٍ مِّنَ اللَّيْلِ وَلَا
- So travel with your family in a part of the night,
- يَلْتَفِتْ مِنكُمْ أَحَدٌ إِلَّا
- and let not any of you look back,
- امْرَأَتَكَ ۖ إِنَّهُ
- but your wife (will remain behind),
- مُصِيبُهَا مَا أَصَابَهُمْ ۚ إِنَّ
- verily, the punishment which will afflict them, will afflict her.
- مَوْعِدَهُمُ الصُّبْحُ ۚ أَلَيْسَ
- Indeed, morning is their appointed time.
- الصُّبْحُ بِقَرِيبٍ
- Is not the morning near?
فَلَمَّا جَاءَ أَمْرُنَا جَعَلْنَا عَالِيَهَا سَافِلَهَا وَأَمْطَرْنَا عَلَيْهَا حِجَارَةً مِّن سِجِّيلٍ مَّنضُودٍ ٨٢
So when Our Commandment came, We turned (the towns of Sodom in Palestine) upside down, and rained on them stones of baked clay, piled up;
- فَلَمَّا جَاءَ أَمْرُنَا
- So when Our Commandment came
- جَعَلْنَا عَالِيَهَا سَافِلَهَا
- We turned (the towns of Sodom in Palestine) upside down
- وَأَمْطَرْنَا عَلَيْهَا
- and rained on them
- حِجَارَةً مِّن سِجِّيلٍ مَّنضُودٍ
- stones of baked clay, piled up
مُّسَوَّمَةً عِندَ رَبِّكَ ۖ وَمَا هِيَ مِنَ الظَّالِمِينَ بِبَعِيدٍ ٨٣
Marked from your Lord, and they are not ever far from the Zalimun (polytheists, evil-doers, etc.).
- مُّسَوَّمَةً عِندَ رَبِّكَ ۖ
- Marked from your Lord
- وَمَا هِيَ مِنَ الظَّالِمِينَ
- and they are not ever from the Zalimun
