وَأَنذِرْهُمْ يَوْمَ الْآزِفَةِ إِذِ الْقُلُوبُ لَدَى الْحَنَاجِرِ كَاظِمِينَ ۚ مَا لِلظَّالِمِينَ مِنْ حَمِيمٍ وَلَا شَفِيعٍ يُطَاعُ ١٨

And warn them (O Muhammad SAW) of the Day that is drawing near (i.e. the Day of Resurrection), when the hearts will be choking the throats, and they can neither return them (hearts) to their chests nor can they throw them out. There will be no friend, nor an intercessor for the Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers, etc.), who could be given heed to.

وَأَنذِرْهُمْ

And warn them

يَوْمَ الْآزِفَةِ

of the Day that is drawing near

إِذِ الْقُلُوبُ لَدَى الْحَنَاجِرِ

when the hearts will be choking the throats

كَاظِمِينَ ۚ

and they can neither return them (hearts)

مَا لِلظَّالِمِينَ مِنْ حَمِيمٍ

There will be no friend for the Zalimun

وَلَا شَفِيعٍ يُطَاعُ

nor an intercessor who could be given heed to

يَعْلَمُ خَائِنَةَ الْأَعْيُنِ وَمَا تُخْفِي الصُّدُورُ ١٩

Allah knows the fraud of the eyes, and all that the breasts conceal.

يَعْلَمُ خَائِنَةَ الْأَعْيُنِ

Allah knows the fraud of the eyes

وَمَا تُخْفِي الصُّدُورُ

and all that the breasts conceal

وَاللَّهُ يَقْضِي بِالْحَقِّ ۖ وَالَّذِينَ يَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِهِ لَا يَقْضُونَ بِشَيْءٍ ۗ إِنَّ اللَّهَ هُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْبَصِيرُ ٢٠

And Allah judges with truth, while those to whom they invoke besides Him, cannot judge anything. Certainly, Allah! He is the All-Hearer, the All-Seer.

وَاللَّهُ يَقْضِي بِالْحَقِّ ۖ

And Allah judges with truth,

وَالَّذِينَ يَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِهِ

while those to whom they invoke besides Him,

لَا يَقْضُونَ بِشَيْءٍ ۗ

cannot judge anything.

إِنَّ اللَّهَ هُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْبَصِيرُ

Certainly, Allah! He is the All-Hearer, the All-Seer.

۞ أَوَلَمْ يَسِيرُوا فِي الْأَرْضِ فَيَنظُرُوا كَيْفَ كَانَ عَاقِبَةُ الَّذِينَ كَانُوا مِن قَبْلِهِمْ ۚ كَانُوا هُمْ أَشَدَّ مِنْهُمْ قُوَّةً وَآثَارًا فِي الْأَرْضِ فَأَخَذَهُمُ اللَّهُ بِذُنُوبِهِمْ وَمَا كَانَ لَهُم مِّنَ اللَّهِ مِن وَاقٍ ٢١

Have they not travelled in the land and seen what was the end of those who were before them? They were superior to them in strength, and in the traces (which they left) in the land. But Allah seized them with punishment for their sins. And none had they to protect them from Allah.

۞ أَوَلَمْ يَسِيرُوا فِي الْأَرْضِ

Have they not travelled in the land

فَيَنظُرُوا كَيْفَ كَانَ عَاقِبَةُ الَّذِينَ كَانُوا مِن قَبْلِهِمْ ۚ

and seen what was the end of those who were before them?

كَانُوا هُمْ أَشَدَّ مِنْهُمْ قُوَّةً

They were superior to them in strength,

وَآثَارًا فِي الْأَرْضِ

and in the traces (which they left) in the land.

فَأَخَذَهُمُ اللَّهُ بِذُنُوبِهِمْ

But Allah seized them with punishment for their sins.

وَمَا كَانَ لَهُم مِّنَ اللَّهِ مِن وَاقٍ

And none had they to protect them from Allah.

ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ كَانَت تَّأْتِيهِمْ رُسُلُهُم بِالْبَيِّنَاتِ فَكَفَرُوا فَأَخَذَهُمُ اللَّهُ ۚ إِنَّهُ قَوِيٌّ شَدِيدُ الْعِقَابِ ٢٢

That was because there came to them their Messengers with clear evidences, proofs and signs but they disbelieved (in them). So Allah seized them with punishment. Verily, He is All-Strong, Severe in punishment.

ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ كَانَت تَّأْتِيهِمْ رُسُلُهُم بِالْبَيِّنَاتِ

That was because there came to them their Messengers with clear evidences, proofs and signs

فَكَفَرُوا

but they disbelieved (in them).

فَأَخَذَهُمُ اللَّهُ ۚ

So Allah seized them with punishment.

إِنَّهُ قَوِيٌّ شَدِيدُ الْعِقَابِ

Verily, He is All-Strong, Severe in punishment.
