Ha-Mim. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran, and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings].

These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran, and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings

وَالْكِتَابِ الْمُبِينِ ٢

By the manifest Book (that makes things clear, i.e. this Quran).

وَالْكِتَابِ

By the Book

الْمُبِينِ

i.e. this Quran

إِنَّا جَعَلْنَاهُ قُرْآنًا عَرَبِيًّا لَّعَلَّكُمْ تَعْقِلُونَ ٣

We verily, have made it a Quran in Arabic, that you may be able to understand (its meanings and its admonitions).

إِنَّا جَعَلْنَاهُ

We verily, have made it

قُرْآنًا عَرَبِيًّا

a Quran in Arabic

لَّعَلَّكُمْ تَعْقِلُونَ

that you may be able to understand (its meanings and its admonitions)

وَإِنَّهُ فِي أُمِّ الْكِتَابِ لَدَيْنَا لَعَلِيٌّ حَكِيمٌ ٤

And Verily, it (this Quran) is in the Mother of the Book (i.e. Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz), before Us, indeed Exalted, full of Wisdom.

وَإِنَّهُ

And Verily, it (this Quran)

فِي أُمِّ الْكِتَابِ

is in the Mother of the Book

لَدَيْنَا

before Us

لَعَلِيٌّ حَكِيمٌ

indeed Exalted, full of Wisdom

أَفَنَضْرِبُ عَنكُمُ الذِّكْرَ صَفْحًا أَن كُنتُمْ قَوْمًا مُّسْرِفِينَ ٥

Shall We then (warn you not and) take away the Reminder (this Quran) from you, because you are a people Musrifun

أَفَنَضْرِبُ عَنكُمُ الذِّكْرَ

Shall We then take away the Reminder

صَفْحًا

(this Quran) from you,

أَن كُنتُمْ قَوْمًا مُّسْرِفِينَ

because you are a people Musrifun

وَكَمْ أَرْسَلْنَا مِن نَّبِيٍّ فِي الْأَوَّلِينَ ٦

And how many a Prophet have We sent amongst the men of old.

وَكَمْ أَرْسَلْنَا

And how many have We sent

مِن نَّبِيٍّ

a Prophet

فِي الْأَوَّلِينَ

amongst the men of old

وَمَا يَأْتِيهِم مِّن نَّبِيٍّ إِلَّا كَانُوا بِهِ يَسْتَهْزِئُونَ ٧

And never came there a Prophet to them but they used to mock at him.

وَمَا يَأْتِيهِم مِّن نَّبِيٍّ

And never came there a Prophet to them

إِلَّا كَانُوا بِهِ يَسْتَهْزِئُونَ

but they used to mock at him.

فَأَهْلَكْنَا أَشَدَّ مِنْهُم بَطْشًا وَمَضَىٰ مَثَلُ الْأَوَّلِينَ ٨

Then We destroyed men stronger (in power) than these, and the example of the ancients has passed away (before them).

فَأَهْلَكْنَا

Then We destroyed

أَشَدَّ مِنْهُم بَطْشًا

men stronger (in power) than these

وَمَضَىٰ مَثَلُ الْأَوَّلِينَ

and the example of the ancients has passed away (before them)
