وَاتْلُ عَلَيْهِمْ نَبَأَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ٦٩

And recite to them the story of Ibrahim (Abraham).

وَاتْلُ عَلَيْهِمْ
And recite to them
نَبَأَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ
the story of Ibrahim (Abraham)

إِذْ قَالَ لِأَبِيهِ وَقَوْمِهِ مَا تَعْبُدُونَ ٧٠

When he said to his father and his people: "What do you worship?"

إِذْ قَالَ
When he said
لِأَبِيهِ وَقَوْمِهِ
to his father and his people
مَا تَعْبُدُونَ
What do you worship?

قَالُوا نَعْبُدُ أَصْنَامًا فَنَظَلُّ لَهَا عَاكِفِينَ ٧١

They said: "We worship idols, and to them we are ever devoted."

قَالُوا
They said:
نَعْبُدُ أَصْنَامًا
We worship idols,
فَنَظَلُّ لَهَا عَاكِفِينَ
and to them we are ever devoted.

قَالَ هَلْ يَسْمَعُونَكُمْ إِذْ تَدْعُونَ ٧٢

He said: "Do they hear you, when you call (on them)?

قَالَ
He said:
هَلْ يَسْمَعُونَكُمْ
Do they hear you,
إِذْ تَدْعُونَ
when you call (on them)?

أَوْ يَنفَعُونَكُمْ أَوْ يَضُرُّونَ ٧٣

"Or do they benefit you or do they harm (you)?"

أَوْ يَنفَعُونَكُمْ
Or do they benefit you
أَوْ يَضُرُّونَ
or do they harm (you)?

قَالُوا بَلْ وَجَدْنَا آبَاءَنَا كَذَٰلِكَ يَفْعَلُونَ ٧٤

They said: "Nay, but we found our fathers doing so."

قَالُوا
They said
بَلْ وَجَدْنَا
Nay, but we found
آبَاءَنَا
our fathers
كَذَٰلِكَ يَفْعَلُونَ
doing so

قَالَ أَفَرَأَيْتُم مَّا كُنتُمْ تَعْبُدُونَ ٧٥

He said: "Do you observe that which you have been worshipping,

قَالَ
He said:
أَفَرَأَيْتُم
Do you observe
مَّا كُنتُمْ تَعْبُدُونَ
that which you have been worshipping,

أَنتُمْ وَآبَاؤُكُمُ الْأَقْدَمُونَ ٧٦

"You and your ancient fathers?

أَنتُمْ
You
وَآبَاؤُكُمُ
and your fathers
الْأَقْدَمُونَ
the ancient

فَإِنَّهُمْ عَدُوٌّ لِّي إِلَّا رَبَّ الْعَالَمِينَ ٧٧

"Verily! They are enemies to me, save the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists);

فَإِنَّهُمْ عَدُوٌّ لِّي
Verily! They are enemies to me
إِلَّا رَبَّ الْعَالَمِينَ
save the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists)

الَّذِي خَلَقَنِي فَهُوَ يَهْدِينِ ٧٨

"Who has created me, and it is He Who guides me;

الَّذِي خَلَقَنِي
Who has created me
فَهُوَ يَهْدِينِ
and it is He Who guides me

وَالَّذِي هُوَ يُطْعِمُنِي وَيَسْقِينِ ٧٩

"And it is He Who feeds me and gives me to drink.

وَالَّذِي هُوَ
And it is He Who
يُطْعِمُنِي
feeds me
وَيَسْقِينِ
and gives me to drink

وَإِذَا مَرِضْتُ فَهُوَ يَشْفِينِ ٨٠

"And when I am ill, it is He who cures me.

وَإِذَا مَرِضْتُ
And when I am ill
فَهُوَ يَشْفِينِ
it is He who cures me

وَالَّذِي يُمِيتُنِي ثُمَّ يُحْيِينِ ٨١

"And Who will cause me to die, and then will bring me to life (again);

وَالَّذِي يُمِيتُنِي
And Who will cause me to die
ثُمَّ يُحْيِينِ
and then will bring me to life (again)

وَالَّذِي أَطْمَعُ أَن يَغْفِرَ لِي خَطِيئَتِي يَوْمَ الدِّينِ ٨٢

"And Who, I hope will forgive me my faults on the Day of Recompense, (the Day of Resurrection),"

وَالَّذِي أَطْمَعُ
And Who, I hope
أَن يَغْفِرَ لِي خَطِيئَتِي
will forgive me my faults
يَوْمَ الدِّينِ
on the Day of Recompense, (the Day of Resurrection)

رَبِّ هَبْ لِي حُكْمًا وَأَلْحِقْنِي بِالصَّالِحِينَ ٨٣

My Lord! Bestow Hukman (religious knowledge, right judgement of the affairs and Prophethood) on me, and join me with the righteous;

رَبِّ هَبْ لِي
My Lord! Bestow
حُكْمًا
Hukman (religious knowledge, right judgement of the affairs and Prophethood)
وَأَلْحِقْنِي بِالصَّالِحِينَ
and join me with the righteous;

وَاجْعَل لِّي لِسَانَ صِدْقٍ فِي الْآخِرِينَ ٨٤

And grant me an honourable mention in later generations;

وَاجْعَل لِّي
And grant me
لِسَانَ صِدْقٍ
an honourable mention
فِي الْآخِرِينَ
in later generations

وَاجْعَلْنِي مِن وَرَثَةِ جَنَّةِ النَّعِيمِ ٨٥

And make me one of the inheritors of the Paradise of Delight;

وَاجْعَلْنِي
And make me
مِن وَرَثَةِ
one of the inheritors of
جَنَّةِ النَّعِيمِ
the Paradise of Delight

وَاغْفِرْ لِأَبِي إِنَّهُ كَانَ مِنَ الضَّالِّينَ ٨٦

And forgive my father, verily he is of the erring;

وَاغْفِرْ لِأَبِي
And forgive my father
إِنَّهُ كَانَ مِنَ الضَّالِّينَ
verily he is of the erring

وَلَا تُخْزِنِي يَوْمَ يُبْعَثُونَ ٨٧

And disgrace me not on the Day when (all the creatures) will be resurrected;

وَلَا تُخْزِنِي
And disgrace me not
يَوْمَ يُبْعَثُونَ
on the Day when (all the creatures) will be resurrected

يَوْمَ لَا يَنفَعُ مَالٌ وَلَا بَنُونَ ٨٨

The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail,

يَوْمَ
The Day
لَا يَنفَعُ
whereon neither will avail
مَالٌ
wealth
وَلَا
nor
بَنُونَ
sons

إِلَّا مَنْ أَتَى اللَّهَ بِقَلْبٍ سَلِيمٍ ٨٩

Except him who brings to Allah a clean heart [clean from Shirk (polytheism) and Nifaq (hypocrisy)].

إِلَّا مَنْ
Except him who
أَتَى اللَّهَ
brings to Allah
بِقَلْبٍ سَلِيمٍ
a clean heart
clean from Shirk (polytheism) and Nifaq (hypocrisy)

وَأُزْلِفَتِ الْجَنَّةُ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ ٩٠

And Paradise will be brought near to the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2).

وَأُزْلِفَتِ الْجَنَّةُ
And Paradise will be brought near
لِلْمُتَّقِينَ
to the Muttaqun (pious)

وَبُرِّزَتِ الْجَحِيمُ لِلْغَاوِينَ ٩١

And the (Hell) Fire will be placed in full view of the erring.

وَبُرِّزَتِ الْجَحِيمُ
And the (Hell) Fire will be placed in full view
لِلْغَاوِينَ
of the erring

وَقِيلَ لَهُمْ أَيْنَ مَا كُنتُمْ تَعْبُدُونَ ٩٢

And it will be said to them: "Where are those (the false gods whom you used to set up as rivals with Allah) that you used to worship

وَقِيلَ لَهُمْ
And it will be said to them
أَيْنَ مَا كُنتُمْ
Where are those
تَعْبُدُونَ
that you used to worship
the false gods whom you used to set up as rivals with Allah

مِن دُونِ اللَّهِ هَلْ يَنصُرُونَكُمْ أَوْ يَنتَصِرُونَ ٩٣

"Instead of Allah? Can they help you or (even) help themselves?"

مِن دُونِ اللَّهِ
Instead of Allah?
هَلْ يَنصُرُونَكُمْ
Can they help you
أَوْ يَنتَصِرُونَ
or (even) help themselves?

فَكُبْكِبُوا فِيهَا هُمْ وَالْغَاوُونَ ٩٤

Then they will be thrown on their faces into the (Fire), They and the Ghawun (devils, and those who were in error).

فَكُبْكِبُوا فِيهَا
Then they will be thrown on their faces into the (Fire)
هُمْ وَالْغَاوُونَ
They and the Ghawun (devils, and those who were in error)

وَجُنُودُ إِبْلِيسَ أَجْمَعُونَ ٩٥

And the whole hosts of Iblis (Satan) together.

وَجُنُودُ إِبْلِيسَ
And the hosts of Iblis (Satan)
أَجْمَعُونَ
together

قَالُوا وَهُمْ فِيهَا يَخْتَصِمُونَ ٩٦

They will say while contending therein,

قَالُوا
They will say
وَهُمْ فِيهَا
while contending therein
يَخْتَصِمُونَ

تَاللَّهِ إِن كُنَّا لَفِي ضَلَالٍ مُّبِينٍ ٩٧

By Allah, we were truly in a manifest error,

تَاللَّهِ
By Allah,
إِن كُنَّا
we were truly
لَفِي ضَلَالٍ مُّبِينٍ
in a manifest error,

إِذْ نُسَوِّيكُم بِرَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ ٩٨

When We held you (false gods) as equals (in worship) with the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists);

إِذْ نُسَوِّيكُم
When We held you (false gods)
بِرَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ
as equals (in worship) with the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists)

وَمَا أَضَلَّنَا إِلَّا الْمُجْرِمُونَ ٩٩

And none has brought us into error except the Mujrimun [Iblis (Satan) and those of human beings who commit crimes, murderers, polytheists, oppressors, etc.].

وَمَا أَضَلَّنَا
And none has brought us into error
إِلَّا الْمُجْرِمُونَ
except the Mujrimun [Iblis (Satan) and those of human beings who commit crimes, murderers, polytheists, oppressors, etc.]

فَمَا لَنَا مِن شَافِعِينَ ١٠٠

Now we have no intercessors,

فَمَا لَنَا
Now we have
مِن شَافِعِينَ
no intercessors

وَلَا صَدِيقٍ حَمِيمٍ ١٠١

Nor a close friend (to help us).

وَلَا صَدِيقٍ حَمِيمٍ
Nor a close friend (to help us)

فَلَوْ أَنَّ لَنَا كَرَّةً فَنَكُونَ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ١٠٢

(Alas!) If we only had a chance to return (to the world), we shall truly be among the believers!

فَلَوْ أَنَّ لَنَا كَرَّةً
If we only had a chance to return
فَنَكُونَ
we shall truly be
مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ
among the believers

إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَآيَةً ۖ وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ ١٠٣

Verily! In this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers.

إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ
Verily! In this
لَآيَةً ۖ
is indeed a sign,
وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُم
yet most of them
مُّؤْمِنِينَ
are not believers.

وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الرَّحِيمُ ١٠٤

And verily, your Lord! He is truly the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful.

وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ
And verily, your Lord!
لَهُوَ الْعَزِيزُ
He is truly the All-Mighty,
الرَّحِيمُ
the Most Merciful.
