كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ الْمُرْسَلِينَ ١٤١

Thamud (people) belied the Messenger.

كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ

Thamud belied

الْمُرْسَلِينَ

the Messenger

إِذْ قَالَ لَهُمْ أَخُوهُمْ صَالِحٌ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ ١٤٢

When their brother Salih (Saleh) said to them: "Will you not fear Allah and obey Him?

إِذْ قَالَ لَهُمْ

When he said to them

أَخُوهُمْ صَالِحٌ

their brother Salih

أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ

Will you not fear Allah and obey Him?

إِنِّي لَكُمْ رَسُولٌ أَمِينٌ ١٤٣

"I am a trustworthy Messenger to you.

إِنِّي

I am

لَكُمْ

to you

رَسُولٌ

a Messenger

أَمِينٌ

trustworthy

فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ ١٤٤

"So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me.

فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ

So fear Allah

وَأَطِيعُونِ

keep your duty to Him

وَمَا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٍ ۖ إِنْ أَجْرِيَ إِلَّا عَلَىٰ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ ١٤٥

"No reward do I ask of you for it (my Message of Islamic Monotheism), my reward is only from the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists).

وَمَا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٍ ۖ

No reward do I ask of you for it

إِنْ أَجْرِيَ إِلَّا عَلَىٰ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ

my reward is only from the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists)

أَتُتْرَكُونَ فِي مَا هَاهُنَا آمِنِينَ ١٤٦

"Will you be left secure in that which you have here?

أَتُتْرَكُونَ

Will you be left

فِي مَا هَاهُنَا

secure in that which you have here?

آمِنِينَ

فِي جَنَّاتٍ وَعُيُونٍ ١٤٧

"In gardens and springs.

فِي جَنَّاتٍ

In gardens

وَعُيُونٍ

and springs

وَزُرُوعٍ وَنَخْلٍ طَلْعُهَا هَضِيمٌ ١٤٨

And green crops (fields etc.) and date-palms with soft spadix.

وَزُرُوعٍ

And green crops (fields etc.)

وَنَخْلٍ

and date-palms

طَلْعُهَا هَضِيمٌ

with soft spadix

وَتَنْحِتُونَ مِنَ الْجِبَالِ بُيُوتًا فَارِهِينَ ١٤٩

"And you carve houses out of mountains with great skill.

وَتَنْحِتُونَ

And you carve

مِنَ الْجِبَالِ

out of mountains

بُيُوتًا

houses

فَارِهِينَ

with great skill

فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ ١٥٠

"So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me.

فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ

So fear Allah

وَأَطِيعُونِ

keep your duty to Him

وَلَا تُطِيعُوا أَمْرَ الْمُسْرِفِينَ ١٥١

"And follow not the command of Al-Musrifun [i.e. their chiefs, leaders who were polytheists, criminals and sinners],

وَلَا تُطِيعُوا

And follow not

أَمْرَ الْمُسْرِفِينَ

the command of Al-Musrifun [i.e. their chiefs, leaders who were polytheists, criminals and sinners]

الَّذِينَ يُفْسِدُونَ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَلَا يُصْلِحُونَ ١٥٢

"Who make mischief in the land, and reform not."

الَّذِينَ يُفْسِدُونَ فِي الْأَرْضِ

Who make mischief in the land

وَلَا يُصْلِحُونَ

and reform not

قَالُوا إِنَّمَا أَنتَ مِنَ الْمُسَحَّرِينَ ١٥٣

They said: "You are only of those bewitched!

قَالُوا

They said:

إِنَّمَا أَنتَ

You are only

مِنَ الْمُسَحَّرِينَ

of those bewitched!

مَا أَنتَ إِلَّا بَشَرٌ مِّثْلُنَا فَأْتِ بِآيَةٍ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ الصَّادِقِينَ ١٥٤

"You are but a human being like us. Then bring us a sign if you are of the truthful."

مَا أَنتَ إِلَّا بَشَرٌ مِّثْلُنَا

You are but a human being like us.

فَأْتِ بِآيَةٍ

Then bring us a sign

إِن كُنتَ مِنَ الصَّادِقِينَ

if you are of the truthful.

قَالَ هَٰذِهِ نَاقَةٌ لَّهَا شِرْبٌ وَلَكُمْ شِرْبُ يَوْمٍ مَّعْلُومٍ ١٥٥

He said: "Here is a she-camel; it has a right to drink (water), and you have a right to drink (water) (each) on a day, known.

قَالَ هَٰذِهِ نَاقَةٌ

He said: 'Here is a she-camel;

لَّهَا شِرْبٌ

it has a right to drink (water),

وَلَكُمْ شِرْبُ يَوْمٍ مَّعْلُومٍ

and you have a right to drink (water) (each) on a day, known.

وَلَا تَمَسُّوهَا بِسُوءٍ فَيَأْخُذَكُمْ عَذَابُ يَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ ١٥٦

"And touch her not with harm, lest the torment of a Great Day seize you."

وَلَا تَمَسُّوهَا بِسُوءٍ

And touch her not with harm

فَيَأْخُذَكُمْ عَذَابُ يَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ

lest the torment of a Great Day seize you

فَعَقَرُوهَا فَأَصْبَحُوا نَادِمِينَ ١٥٧

But they killed her, and then they became regretful.

فَعَقَرُوهَا

But they killed her

فَأَصْبَحُوا نَادِمِينَ

and then they became regretful

فَأَخَذَهُمُ الْعَذَابُ ۗ إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَآيَةً ۖ وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ ١٥٨

So the torment overtook them. Verily, in this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers.

فَأَخَذَهُمُ الْعَذَابُ ۗ

So the torment overtook them.

إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَآيَةً ۖ

Verily, in this is indeed a sign,

وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ

yet most of them are not believers.

وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الرَّحِيمُ ١٥٩

And verily! Your Lord, He is indeed the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful.

وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ

And verily! Your Lord,

لَهُوَ الْعَزِيزُ

He is indeed the All-Mighty,

الرَّحِيمُ

the Most Merciful.
