كَذَّبَتْ عَادٌ الْمُرْسَلِينَ ١٢٣
'Ad (people) belied the Messengers.

إِذْ قَالَ لَهُمْ أَخُوهُمْ هُودٌ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ ١٢٤
When their brother Hud said to them: "Will you not fear Allah and obey Him?
- إِذْ قَالَ لَهُمْ

- أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ
- Will you not fear Allah and obey Him?
إِنِّي لَكُمْ رَسُولٌ أَمِينٌ ١٢٥
"Verily! I am a trustworthy Messenger to you.

- I am a trustworthy Messenger
فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ ١٢٦
"So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me.
- فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ
- So fear Allah
- وَأَطِيعُونِ
- keep your duty to Him
وَمَا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٍ ۖ إِنْ أَجْرِيَ إِلَّا عَلَىٰ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ ١٢٧
"No reward do I ask of you for it (my Message of Islamic Monotheism), my reward is only from the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns, and all that exists).
- وَمَا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٍ ۖ
- No reward do I ask of you for it
- إِنْ أَجْرِيَ إِلَّا عَلَىٰ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ
- my reward is only from the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns, and all that exists)
أَتَبْنُونَ بِكُلِّ رِيعٍ آيَةً تَعْبَثُونَ ١٢٨
"Do you build high palaces on every high place, while you do not live in them?
- أَتَبْنُونَ بِكُلِّ رِيعٍ
- Do you build on every high place,
- آيَةً تَعْبَثُونَ
- high palaces while you do not live in them?
وَتَتَّخِذُونَ مَصَانِعَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَخْلُدُونَ ١٢٩
"And do you get for yourselves palaces (fine buildings) as if you will live therein for ever.
- وَتَتَّخِذُونَ مَصَانِعَ
- And do you get for yourselves palaces (fine buildings)
- لَعَلَّكُمْ تَخْلُدُونَ
- as if you will live therein for ever.
وَإِذَا بَطَشْتُم بَطَشْتُمْ جَبَّارِينَ ١٣٠
"And when you seize, seize you as tyrants?
- وَإِذَا بَطَشْتُم
- And when you seize
- بَطَشْتُمْ جَبَّارِينَ
- you seize as tyrants
فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ ١٣١
"So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me.
- فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ
- So fear Allah
- وَأَطِيعُونِ
- keep your duty to Him
وَاتَّقُوا الَّذِي أَمَدَّكُم بِمَا تَعْلَمُونَ ١٣٢
"And keep your duty to Him, fear Him Who has aided you with all (good things) that you know.
- وَاتَّقُوا
- And keep your duty to Him,
- الَّذِي أَمَدَّكُم
- fear Him Who has aided you
- بِمَا تَعْلَمُونَ
- with all (good things) that you know.
أَمَدَّكُم بِأَنْعَامٍ وَبَنِينَ ١٣٣
"He has aided you with cattle and children.
- أَمَدَّكُم
- He has aided you
- بِأَنْعَامٍ
- with cattle
- وَبَنِينَ
- and children
وَجَنَّاتٍ وَعُيُونٍ ١٣٤
"And gardens and springs.
- وَجَنَّاتٍ
- And gardens
- وَعُيُونٍ
- and springs
إِنِّي أَخَافُ عَلَيْكُمْ عَذَابَ يَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ ١٣٥
"Verily, I fear for you the torment of a Great Day."
- إِنِّي
- Verily,
- أَخَافُ عَلَيْكُمْ
- I fear for you
- عَذَابَ يَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ
- the torment of a Great Day.
قَالُوا سَوَاءٌ عَلَيْنَا أَوَعَظْتَ أَمْ لَمْ تَكُن مِّنَ الْوَاعِظِينَ ١٣٦
They said: "It is the same to us whether you preach or be not of those who preach.
- قَالُوا
- They said:
- سَوَاءٌ عَلَيْنَا
- It is the same to us
- أَوَعَظْتَ
- whether you preach
- أَمْ لَمْ تَكُن مِّنَ الْوَاعِظِينَ
- or be not of those who preach.
إِنْ هَٰذَا إِلَّا خُلُقُ الْأَوَّلِينَ ١٣٧
"This is no other than the false-tales and religion of the ancients, [Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol. 19, Page 97]
- إِنْ هَٰذَا
- This is no other than
- إِلَّا خُلُقُ الْأَوَّلِينَ
- the false-tales and religion of the ancients
وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمُعَذَّبِينَ ١٣٨
"And we are not going to be punished."
- وَمَا نَحْنُ
- And we are not
- بِمُعَذَّبِينَ
- going to be punished
فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَأَهْلَكْنَاهُمْ ۗ إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَآيَةً ۖ وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ ١٣٩
So they belied him, and We destroyed them. Verily! In this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers.
- فَكَذَّبُوهُ
- So they belied him,
- فَأَهْلَكْنَاهُمْ ۗ
- and We destroyed them.
- إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَآيَةً ۖ
- Verily! In this is indeed a sign,
- وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ
- yet most of them are not believers.
وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الرَّحِيمُ ١٤٠
And verily! Your Lord, He is indeed the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful.
- وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ
- And verily! Your Lord,
- لَهُوَ الْعَزِيزُ
- He is indeed the All-Mighty,
- الرَّحِيمُ
- the Most Merciful.
