وَالصَّافَّاتِ صَفًّا ١

By those (angels) ranged in ranks (or rows).

وَالصَّافَّاتِ

And those (angels) ranged

صَفًّا

in ranks (or rows)

فَالزَّاجِرَاتِ زَجْرًا ٢

By those (angels) who drive the clouds in a good way.

فَالزَّاجِرَاتِ

By those (angels) who drive

زَجْرًا

the clouds in a good way.

فَالتَّالِيَاتِ ذِكْرًا ٣

By those (angels) who bring the Book and the Quran from Allah to mankind [Tafsir Ibn Kathir].

فَالتَّالِيَاتِ

By those (angels)

ذِكْرًا

who bring the Book and the Quran from Allah to mankind

إِنَّ إِلَٰهَكُمْ لَوَاحِدٌ ٤

Verily your Ilah (God) is indeed One (i.e. Allah);

إِنَّ

Verily

إِلَٰهَكُمْ

your Ilah (God)

لَوَاحِدٌ

is indeed One (i.e. Allah)

رَّبُّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا وَرَبُّ الْمَشَارِقِ ٥

Lord of the heavens and of the earth, and all that is between them, and Lord of every point of the sun's risings. (None has the right to be worshipped but Allah).

رَّبُّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ

Lord of the heavens and of the earth

وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا

and all that is between them

وَرَبُّ الْمَشَارِقِ

and Lord of every point of the sun's risings

(None has the right to be worshipped but Allah)

إِنَّا زَيَّنَّا السَّمَاءَ الدُّنْيَا بِزِينَةٍ الْكَوَاكِبِ ٦

Verily! We have adorned the near heaven with the stars (for beauty).

إِنَّا زَيَّنَّا

Verily! We have adorned

السَّمَاءَ الدُّنْيَا

the near heaven

بِزِينَةٍ الْكَوَاكِبِ

with the stars (for beauty)

وَحِفْظًا مِّن كُلِّ شَيْطَانٍ مَّارِدٍ ٧

And to guard against every rebellious devil.

وَحِفْظًا

And to guard

مِّن كُلِّ شَيْطَانٍ

against every devil

مَّارِدٍ

rebellious

لَّا يَسَّمَّعُونَ إِلَى الْمَلَإِ الْأَعْلَىٰ وَيُقْذَفُونَ مِن كُلِّ جَانِبٍ ٨

They cannot listen to the higher group (angels) for they are pelted from every side.

لَّا يَسَّمَّعُونَ

They cannot listen

إِلَى الْمَلَإِ الْأَعْلَىٰ

to the higher group (angels)

وَيُقْذَفُونَ

for they are pelted

مِن كُلِّ جَانِبٍ

from every side

دُحُورًا ۖ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ وَاصِبٌ ٩

Outcast, and theirs is a constant (or painful) torment.

دُحُورًا ۖ

Outcast

وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ وَاصِبٌ

and theirs is a constant (or painful) torment

إِلَّا مَنْ خَطِفَ الْخَطْفَةَ فَأَتْبَعَهُ شِهَابٌ ثَاقِبٌ ١٠

Except such as snatch away something by stealing and they are pursued by a flaming fire of piercing brightness.

إِلَّا مَنْ خَطِفَ الْخَطْفَةَ

Except such as snatch away something by stealing

فَأَتْبَعَهُ شِهَابٌ ثَاقِبٌ

and they are pursued by a flaming fire of piercing brightness.
