An-Najm — Verses 1–18 | Explore this Quran theme on Muallim
وَالنَّجْمِ إِذَا هَوَىٰ ١
By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes).
- وَالنَّجْمِ إِذَا هَوَىٰ
- By the star when it goes down (or vanishes)
مَا ضَلَّ صَاحِبُكُمْ وَمَا غَوَىٰ ٢
Your companion (Muhammad SAW) has neither gone astray nor has erred.
- مَا ضَلَّ
- has neither gone astray
- صَاحِبُكُمْ
- Your companion (Muhammad SAW)
- وَمَا غَوَىٰ
- nor has erred
وَمَا يَنطِقُ عَنِ الْهَوَىٰ ٣
Nor does he speak of (his own) desire.
- وَمَا يَنطِقُ
- Nor does he speak
- عَنِ الْهَوَىٰ
- of (his own) desire
إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا وَحْيٌ يُوحَىٰ ٤
It is only an Inspiration that is inspired.
- إِنْ هُوَ
- It is only
- إِلَّا
- an Inspiration
- وَحْيٌ يُوحَىٰ
- that is inspired
عَلَّمَهُ شَدِيدُ الْقُوَىٰ ٥
He has been taught (this Quran) by one mighty in power [Jibrael (Gabriel)].
- عَلَّمَهُ
- He has been taught
- شَدِيدُ الْقُوَىٰ
- by one mighty in power
- He has been taught (this Quran) by one mighty in power [Jibrael (Gabriel)]
ذُو مِرَّةٍ فَاسْتَوَىٰ ٦
Dhu Mirrah (free from any defect in body and mind), Fastawa [then he (Jibrael - Gabriel) rose and became stable]. [Tafsir At-Tabari].
- ذُو مِرَّةٍ
- Dhu Mirrah (free from any defect in body and mind)
- فَاسْتَوَىٰ
- Fastawa [then he (Jibrael - Gabriel) rose and became stable]
وَهُوَ بِالْأُفُقِ الْأَعْلَىٰ ٧
While he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] was in the highest part of the horizon,
- وَهُوَ
- While he
- بِالْأُفُقِ الْأَعْلَىٰ
- was in the highest part of the horizon
ثُمَّ دَنَا فَتَدَلَّىٰ ٨
Then he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] approached and came closer,
- ثُمَّ دَنَا
- Then he approached
- فَتَدَلَّىٰ
- and came closer
فَكَانَ قَابَ قَوْسَيْنِ أَوْ أَدْنَىٰ ٩
And was at a distance of two bows' length or (even) nearer,
- فَكَانَ
- And was
- قَابَ قَوْسَيْنِ
- at a distance of two bows' length
- أَوْ أَدْنَىٰ
- or (even) nearer
فَأَوْحَىٰ إِلَىٰ عَبْدِهِ مَا أَوْحَىٰ ١٠
So did (Allah) convey the Inspiration to His slave [Muhammad SAW through Jibrael (Gabriel)].
- فَأَوْحَىٰ
- So did (Allah) convey
- إِلَىٰ عَبْدِهِ
- the Inspiration to His slave
- مَا أَوْحَىٰ
- what He inspired
مَا كَذَبَ الْفُؤَادُ مَا رَأَىٰ ١١
The (Prophet's) heart lied not (in seeing) what he (Muhammad SAW) saw.
- مَا كَذَبَ الْفُؤَادُ
- The (Prophet's) heart lied not
- مَا رَأَىٰ
- (in seeing) what he (Muhammad SAW) saw
أَفَتُمَارُونَهُ عَلَىٰ مَا يَرَىٰ ١٢
Will you then dispute with him (Muhammad SAW) about what he saw [during the Mi'raj: (Ascent of the Prophet SAW over the seven heavens)].
- أَفَتُمَارُونَهُ
- Will you then dispute with him
- عَلَىٰ مَا يَرَىٰ
- about what he saw [during the Mi'raj: (Ascent of the Prophet SAW over the seven heavens)]
وَلَقَدْ رَآهُ نَزْلَةً أُخْرَىٰ ١٣
And indeed he (Muhammad SAW) saw him [Jibrael (Gabriel)] at a second descent (i.e. another time).
- وَلَقَدْ رَآهُ
- And indeed he (Muhammad SAW) saw him
- نَزْلَةً أُخْرَىٰ
- at a second descent (i.e. another time)
عِندَ سِدْرَةِ الْمُنتَهَىٰ ١٤
Near Sidrat-ul-Muntaha [lote-tree of the utmost boundary (beyond which none can pass)],
- عِندَ سِدْرَةِ الْمُنتَهَىٰ
- Near Sidrat-ul-Muntaha
- the lote-tree of the utmost boundary
- beyond which none can pass
عِندَهَا جَنَّةُ الْمَأْوَىٰ ١٥
Near it is the Paradise of Abode.
- عِندَهَا
- Near it
- جَنَّةُ الْمَأْوَىٰ
- the Paradise of Abode
إِذْ يَغْشَى السِّدْرَةَ مَا يَغْشَىٰ ١٦
When that covered the lote-tree which did cover it!
- إِذْ يَغْشَى السِّدْرَةَ
- When that covered the lote-tree
- مَا يَغْشَىٰ
- which did cover it!
مَا زَاغَ الْبَصَرُ وَمَا طَغَىٰ ١٧
The sight (of Prophet Muhammad SAW) turned not aside (right or left), nor it transgressed beyond (the) limit (ordained for it).
- مَا زَاغَ الْبَصَرُ
- The sight (of Prophet Muhammad SAW) turned not aside
- وَمَا طَغَىٰ
- nor it transgressed beyond (the) limit (ordained for it)
لَقَدْ رَأَىٰ مِنْ آيَاتِ رَبِّهِ الْكُبْرَىٰ ١٨
Indeed he (Muhammad SAW) did see, of the Greatest Signs, of his Lord (Allah).
- لَقَدْ رَأَىٰ
- Indeed he did see
- مِنْ آيَاتِ رَبِّهِ
- of the Signs of his Lord
- الْكُبْرَىٰ
- the Greatest
