لَا أُقْسِمُ بِيَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ ١

I swear by the Day of Resurrection;

لَا أُقْسِمُ
I swear by
بِيَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ
the Day of Resurrection

وَلَا أُقْسِمُ بِالنَّفْسِ اللَّوَّامَةِ ٢

And I swear by the self-reproaching person (a believer).

وَلَا أُقْسِمُ
And I swear by
بِالنَّفْسِ اللَّوَّامَةِ
the self-reproaching person (a believer)

أَيَحْسَبُ الْإِنسَانُ أَلَّن نَّجْمَعَ عِظَامَهُ ٣

Does man (a disbeliever) think that We shall not assemble his bones?

أَيَحْسَبُ الْإِنسَانُ
Does man (a disbeliever) think
أَلَّن نَّجْمَعَ عِظَامَهُ
that We shall not assemble his bones?

بَلَىٰ قَادِرِينَ عَلَىٰ أَن نُّسَوِّيَ بَنَانَهُ ٤

Yes, We are Able to put together in perfect order the tips of his fingers.

بَلَىٰ
Yes,
قَادِرِينَ عَلَىٰ
We are Able to
أَن نُّسَوِّيَ

بَنَانَهُ
the tips of his fingers.

بَلْ يُرِيدُ الْإِنسَانُ لِيَفْجُرَ أَمَامَهُ ٥

Nay! (Man denies Resurrection and Reckoning. So) he desires to continue committing sins.

بَلْ يُرِيدُ

لِيَفْجُرَ أَمَامَهُ
he desires to continue committing sins.

يَسْأَلُ أَيَّانَ يَوْمُ الْقِيَامَةِ ٦

He asks: "When will be this Day of Resurrection?"

يَسْأَلُ

يَوْمُ الْقِيَامَةِ
this Day of Resurrection

فَإِذَا بَرِقَ الْبَصَرُ ٧

So, when the sight shall be dazed,

فَإِذَا
So, when
بَرِقَ الْبَصَرُ
the sight shall be dazed

وَخَسَفَ الْقَمَرُ ٨

And the moon will be eclipsed,

وَخَسَفَ
And will be eclipsed
الْقَمَرُ
the moon

وَجُمِعَ الشَّمْسُ وَالْقَمَرُ ٩

And the sun and moon will be joined together (by going one into the other or folded up or deprived of their light, etc.)

وَجُمِعَ الشَّمْسُ وَالْقَمَرُ
And the sun and moon will be joined together

يَقُولُ الْإِنسَانُ يَوْمَئِذٍ أَيْنَ الْمَفَرُّ ١٠

On that Day man will say: "Where (is the refuge) to flee?"

يَقُولُ الْإِنسَانُ

يَوْمَئِذٍ
On that Day
أَيْنَ الْمَفَرُّ
Where (is the refuge) to flee?

كَلَّا لَا وَزَرَ ١١

No! There is no refuge!

كَلَّا

لَا وَزَرَ
There is no refuge!

إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ الْمُسْتَقَرُّ ١٢

Unto your Lord (Alone) will be the place of rest that Day.

إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ
Unto your Lord (Alone)
يَوْمَئِذٍ
that Day
الْمُسْتَقَرُّ
will be the place of rest

يُنَبَّأُ الْإِنسَانُ يَوْمَئِذٍ بِمَا قَدَّمَ وَأَخَّرَ ١٣

On that Day man will be informed of what he sent forward (of his evil or good deeds), and what he left behind (of his good or evil traditions).

يُنَبَّأُ الْإِنسَانُ
man will be informed
يَوْمَئِذٍ
On that Day
بِمَا قَدَّمَ وَأَخَّرَ
of what he sent forward (of his evil or good deeds), and what he left behind (of his good or evil traditions)

بَلِ الْإِنسَانُ عَلَىٰ نَفْسِهِ بَصِيرَةٌ ١٤

Nay! Man will be a witness against himself [as his body parts (skin, hands, legs, etc.) will speak about his deeds].

بَلِ الْإِنسَانُ
Nay! Man
عَلَىٰ نَفْسِهِ
will be a witness against himself
بَصِيرَةٌ
[as his body parts (skin, hands, legs, etc.) will speak about his deeds]

وَلَوْ أَلْقَىٰ مَعَاذِيرَهُ ١٥

Though he may put forth his excuses (to cover his evil deeds).

وَلَوْ أَلْقَىٰ
Though he may put forth
