وَلَمَّا تَوَجَّهَ تِلْقَاءَ مَدْيَنَ قَالَ عَسَىٰ رَبِّي أَن يَهْدِيَنِي سَوَاءَ السَّبِيلِ ٢٢
And when he went towards (the land of) Madyan (Midian) he said: "It may be that my Lord guides me to the Right Way."
- وَلَمَّا تَوَجَّهَ تِلْقَاءَ مَدْيَنَ
- And when he went towards (the land of) Madyan (Midian)
- قَالَ عَسَىٰ رَبِّي أَن يَهْدِيَنِي
- he said: 'It may be that my Lord guides me
- سَوَاءَ السَّبِيلِ
- to the Right Way.'
وَلَمَّا وَرَدَ مَاءَ مَدْيَنَ وَجَدَ عَلَيْهِ أُمَّةً مِّنَ النَّاسِ يَسْقُونَ وَوَجَدَ مِن دُونِهِمُ امْرَأَتَيْنِ تَذُودَانِ ۖ قَالَ مَا خَطْبُكُمَا ۖ قَالَتَا لَا نَسْقِي حَتَّىٰ يُصْدِرَ الرِّعَاءُ ۖ وَأَبُونَا شَيْخٌ كَبِيرٌ ٢٣
And when he arrived at the water of Madyan (Midian) he found there a group of men watering (their flocks), and besides them he found two women who were keeping back (their flocks). He said: "What is the matter with you?" They said: "We cannot water (our flocks) until the shepherds take (their flocks). And our father is a very old man."
- وَلَمَّا وَرَدَ مَاءَ مَدْيَنَ
- And when he arrived at the water of Madyan (Midian)
- وَجَدَ عَلَيْهِ أُمَّةً مِّنَ النَّاسِ يَسْقُونَ
- he found there a group of men watering (their flocks),
- وَوَجَدَ مِن دُونِهِمُ امْرَأَتَيْنِ تَذُودَانِ ۖ
- and besides them he found two women who were keeping back (their flocks).
- قَالَ مَا خَطْبُكُمَا ۖ
- He said: 'What is the matter with you?'
- قَالَتَا لَا نَسْقِي حَتَّىٰ يُصْدِرَ الرِّعَاءُ ۖ
- They said: 'We cannot water (our flocks) until the shepherds take (their flocks).
- وَأَبُونَا شَيْخٌ كَبِيرٌ
- And our father is a very old man.'
فَسَقَىٰ لَهُمَا ثُمَّ تَوَلَّىٰ إِلَى الظِّلِّ فَقَالَ رَبِّ إِنِّي لِمَا أَنزَلْتَ إِلَيَّ مِنْ خَيْرٍ فَقِيرٌ ٢٤
So he watered (their flocks) for them, then he turned back to shade, and said: "My Lord! Truly, I am in need of whatever good that You bestow on me!"
- فَسَقَىٰ لَهُمَا
- So he watered (their flocks) for them,
- ثُمَّ تَوَلَّىٰ إِلَى الظِّلِّ
- then he turned back to shade,
- فَقَالَ رَبِّ
- and said: 'My Lord!
- إِنِّي لِمَا أَنزَلْتَ إِلَيَّ مِنْ خَيْرٍ فَقِيرٌ
- Truly, I am in need of whatever good that You bestow on me!'
فَجَاءَتْهُ إِحْدَاهُمَا تَمْشِي عَلَى اسْتِحْيَاءٍ قَالَتْ إِنَّ أَبِي يَدْعُوكَ لِيَجْزِيَكَ أَجْرَ مَا سَقَيْتَ لَنَا ۚ فَلَمَّا جَاءَهُ وَقَصَّ عَلَيْهِ الْقَصَصَ قَالَ لَا تَخَفْ ۖ نَجَوْتَ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ الظَّالِمِينَ ٢٥
Then there came to him one of the two women, walking shyly. She said: "Verily, my father calls you that he may reward you for having watered (our flocks) for us." So when he came to him and narrated the story, he said: "Fear you not. You have escaped from the people who are Zalimun (polytheists, disbelievers, and wrong-doers)."
- فَجَاءَتْهُ إِحْدَاهُمَا تَمْشِي عَلَى اسْتِحْيَاءٍ
- Then there came to him one of the two women, walking shyly.
- قَالَتْ إِنَّ أَبِي يَدْعُوكَ
- She said: 'Verily, my father calls you
- لِيَجْزِيَكَ أَجْرَ مَا سَقَيْتَ لَنَا ۚ
- that he may reward you for having watered (our flocks) for us.'
- فَلَمَّا جَاءَهُ وَقَصَّ عَلَيْهِ الْقَصَصَ
- So when he came to him and narrated the story,
- قَالَ لَا تَخَفْ ۖ
- he said: 'Fear you not.
- نَجَوْتَ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ الظَّالِمِينَ
- You have escaped from the people who are Zalimun (polytheists, disbelievers, and wrong-doers).'
قَالَتْ إِحْدَاهُمَا يَا أَبَتِ اسْتَأْجِرْهُ ۖ إِنَّ خَيْرَ مَنِ اسْتَأْجَرْتَ الْقَوِيُّ الْأَمِينُ ٢٦
And said one of them (the two women): "O my father! Hire him! Verily, the best of men for you to hire is the strong, the trustworthy."
- قَالَتْ إِحْدَاهُمَا
- And said one of them (the two women):
- يَا أَبَتِ اسْتَأْجِرْهُ ۖ
- O my father!
- إِنَّ
- Hire him!
- خَيْرَ مَنِ اسْتَأْجَرْتَ الْقَوِيُّ
- Verily, the best of men for you to hire is
- الْأَمِينُ
- the strong, the trustworthy.
قَالَ إِنِّي أُرِيدُ أَنْ أُنكِحَكَ إِحْدَى ابْنَتَيَّ هَاتَيْنِ عَلَىٰ أَن تَأْجُرَنِي ثَمَانِيَ حِجَجٍ ۖ فَإِنْ أَتْمَمْتَ عَشْرًا فَمِنْ عِندِكَ ۖ وَمَا أُرِيدُ أَنْ أَشُقَّ عَلَيْكَ ۚ سَتَجِدُنِي إِن شَاءَ اللَّهُ مِنَ الصَّالِحِينَ ٢٧
He said: "I intend to wed one of these two daughters of mine to you, on condition that you serve me for eight years, but if you complete ten years, it will be (a favour) from you. But I intend not to place you under a difficulty. If Allah will, you will find me one of the righteous."
- قَالَ إِنِّي أُرِيدُ
- He said: 'I intend to wed
- أَنْ أُنكِحَكَ إِحْدَى ابْنَتَيَّ هَاتَيْنِ
- one of these two daughters of mine to you,
- عَلَىٰ أَن تَأْجُرَنِي ثَمَانِيَ حِجَجٍ ۖ
- on condition that you serve me for eight years,
- فَإِنْ أَتْمَمْتَ عَشْرًا
- but if you complete ten years,
- فَمِنْ عِندِكَ ۖ
- it will be (a favour) from you.
- وَمَا أُرِيدُ أَنْ أَشُقَّ عَلَيْكَ ۚ
- But I intend not to place you under a difficulty.
- سَتَجِدُنِي إِن شَاءَ اللَّهُ
- If Allah will, you will find me
- مِنَ الصَّالِحِينَ
- one of the righteous.
قَالَ ذَٰلِكَ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَكَ ۖ أَيَّمَا الْأَجَلَيْنِ قَضَيْتُ فَلَا عُدْوَانَ عَلَيَّ ۖ وَاللَّهُ عَلَىٰ مَا نَقُولُ وَكِيلٌ ٢٨
He [Musa (Moses)] said: "That (is settled) between me and you whichever of the two terms I fulfill, there will be no injustice to me, and Allah is Surety over what we say."
- قَالَ ذَٰلِكَ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَكَ ۖ
- He [Musa (Moses)] said: 'That (is settled) between me and you
- أَيَّمَا الْأَجَلَيْنِ قَضَيْتُ
- whichever of the two terms I fulfill,
- فَلَا عُدْوَانَ عَلَيَّ ۖ
- there will be no injustice to me,
- وَاللَّهُ عَلَىٰ مَا نَقُولُ وَكِيلٌ
- and Allah is Surety over what we say.
