فَلَا تُطِعِ الْمُكَذِّبِينَ ٨

So (O Muhammad SAW) obey not the deniers [(of Islamic Monotheism those who belie the Verses of Allah), the Oneness of Allah, and the Messenger of Allah (Muhammad SAW), etc.]

فَلَا تُطِعِ

So (O Muhammad SAW) obey not

الْمُكَذِّبِينَ

the deniers [(of Islamic Monotheism those who belie the Verses of Allah), the Oneness of Allah, and the Messenger of Allah (Muhammad SAW), etc.]

وَدُّوا لَوْ تُدْهِنُ فَيُدْهِنُونَ ٩

They wish that you should compromise (in religion out of courtesy) with them, so they (too) would compromise with you.

وَدُّوا

They wish

لَوْ تُدْهِنُ

that you should compromise (in religion out of courtesy)

فَيُدْهِنُونَ

so they (too) would compromise with you.

وَلَا تُطِعْ كُلَّ حَلَّافٍ مَّهِينٍ ١٠

And obey not everyone who swears much, and is considered worthless,

وَلَا تُطِعْ

And obey not

كُلَّ حَلَّافٍ

everyone who swears much

مَّهِينٍ

and is considered worthless

هَمَّازٍ مَّشَّاءٍ بِنَمِيمٍ ١١

A slanderer, going about with calumnies,

هَمَّازٍ

A slanderer

مَّشَّاءٍ

going about

بِنَمِيمٍ

with calumnies

مَّنَّاعٍ لِّلْخَيْرِ مُعْتَدٍ أَثِيمٍ ١٢

Hinderer of the good, transgressor, sinful,

مَّنَّاعٍ لِّلْخَيْرِ

Hinderer of the good

مُعْتَدٍ أَثِيمٍ

transgressor, sinful

عُتُلٍّ بَعْدَ ذَٰلِكَ زَنِيمٍ ١٣

Cruel, after all that base-born (of illegitimate birth),

عُتُلٍّ

Cruel

بَعْدَ ذَٰلِكَ

after all that

زَنِيمٍ

base-born (of illegitimate birth)

أَن كَانَ ذَا مَالٍ وَبَنِينَ ١٤

(He was so) because he had wealth and children.

أَن كَانَ

(He was so)

ذَا مَالٍ وَبَنِينَ

because he had wealth and children

إِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِ آيَاتُنَا قَالَ أَسَاطِيرُ الْأَوَّلِينَ ١٥

When Our Verses (of the Quran) are recited to him, he says: "Tales of the men of old!"

إِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِ آيَاتُنَا

When Our Verses (of the Quran) are recited to him

قَالَ

he says

أَسَاطِيرُ الْأَوَّلِينَ

"Tales of the men of old!"

سَنَسِمُهُ عَلَى الْخُرْطُومِ ١٦

We shall brand him over the nose!

سَنَسِمُهُ

We shall brand him

عَلَى الْخُرْطُومِ

over the nose
