يَا أَيُّهَا الْمُزَّمِّلُ ١

O you wrapped in garments (i.e. Prophet Muhammad SAW)!

يَا أَيُّهَا الْمُزَّمِّلُ

O you wrapped in garments (i.e. Prophet Muhammad SAW)

قُمِ اللَّيْلَ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا ٢

Stand (to pray) all night, except a little.

قُمِ اللَّيْلَ

Stand (to pray) all night

إِلَّا قَلِيلًا

except a little

نِّصْفَهُ أَوِ انقُصْ مِنْهُ قَلِيلًا ٣

Half of it, or a little less than that,

نِّصْفَهُ

Half of it

أَوِ انقُصْ مِنْهُ قَلِيلًا

or a little less than that

أَوْ زِدْ عَلَيْهِ وَرَتِّلِ الْقُرْآنَ تَرْتِيلًا ٤

Or a little more; and recite the Quran (aloud) in a slow, (pleasant tone and) style.

أَوْ زِدْ عَلَيْهِ

Or a little more;

وَرَتِّلِ الْقُرْآنَ

and recite the Quran

تَرْتِيلًا

(aloud) in a slow, (pleasant tone and) style.

إِنَّا سَنُلْقِي عَلَيْكَ قَوْلًا ثَقِيلًا ٥

Verily, We shall send down to you a weighty Word (i.e. obligations, legal laws, etc.).

إِنَّا

Verily,

سَنُلْقِي عَلَيْكَ

We shall send down to you

قَوْلًا ثَقِيلًا

a weighty Word (i.e. obligations, legal laws, etc.)

إِنَّ نَاشِئَةَ اللَّيْلِ هِيَ أَشَدُّ وَطْئًا وَأَقْوَمُ قِيلًا ٦

Verily, the rising by night (for Tahajjud prayer) is very hard and most potent and good for governing (the soul), and most suitable for (understanding) the Word (of Allah).

إِنَّ نَاشِئَةَ اللَّيْلِ

Verily, the rising by night

هِيَ أَشَدُّ وَطْئًا

is very hard

وَأَقْوَمُ قِيلًا

and most suitable for (understanding) the Word (of Allah)

إِنَّ لَكَ فِي النَّهَارِ سَبْحًا طَوِيلًا ٧

Verily, there is for you by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties,

إِنَّ لَكَ

Verily, there is for you

فِي النَّهَارِ

by day

سَبْحًا طَوِيلًا

prolonged occupation with ordinary duties

وَاذْكُرِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ وَتَبَتَّلْ إِلَيْهِ تَبْتِيلًا ٨

And remember the Name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with a complete devotion.

وَاذْكُرِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ

And remember the Name of your Lord

وَتَبَتَّلْ إِلَيْهِ

and devote yourself to Him

تَبْتِيلًا

with a complete devotion

رَّبُّ الْمَشْرِقِ وَالْمَغْرِبِ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ فَاتَّخِذْهُ وَكِيلًا ٩

(He Alone is) the Lord of the east and the west, La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). So take Him Alone as Wakil (Disposer of your affairs).

رَّبُّ الْمَشْرِقِ وَالْمَغْرِبِ

He Alone is the Lord of the east and the west

لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ

none has the right to be worshipped but He

فَاتَّخِذْهُ وَكِيلًا

So take Him Alone as Wakil (Disposer of your affairs)

وَاصْبِرْ عَلَىٰ مَا يَقُولُونَ وَاهْجُرْهُمْ هَجْرًا جَمِيلًا ١٠

And be patient (O Muhammad SAW) with what they say, and keep away from them in a good way.

وَاصْبِرْ عَلَىٰ مَا يَقُولُونَ

And be patient (O Muhammad SAW) with what they say

وَاهْجُرْهُمْ هَجْرًا جَمِيلًا

and keep away from them in a good way
