كُلُّ نَفْسٍ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ رَهِينَةٌ ٣٨

Every person is a pledge for what he has earned,

كُلُّ نَفْسٍ

Every person

بِمَا كَسَبَتْ

for what he has earned

رَهِينَةٌ

is a pledge

إِلَّا أَصْحَابَ الْيَمِينِ ٣٩

Except those on the Right, (i.e. the pious true believers of Islamic Monotheism);

إِلَّا أَصْحَابَ الْيَمِينِ

فِي جَنَّاتٍ يَتَسَاءَلُونَ ٤٠

In Gardens (Paradise) they will ask one another,

فِي جَنَّاتٍ

عَنِ الْمُجْرِمِينَ ٤١

About Al-Mujrimun (polytheists, criminals, disbelievers, etc.), (And they will say to them):

عَنِ الْمُجْرِمِينَ

مَا سَلَكَكُمْ فِي سَقَرَ ٤٢

"What has caused you to enter Hell?"

مَا سَلَكَكُمْ

What has caused you

فِي سَقَرَ

to enter Hell?

قَالُوا لَمْ نَكُ مِنَ الْمُصَلِّينَ ٤٣

They will say: "We were not of those who used to offer their Salat (prayers)

قَالُوا

They will say:

لَمْ نَكُ

We were not

مِنَ الْمُصَلِّينَ

of those who used to offer their Salat (prayers)

وَلَمْ نَكُ نُطْعِمُ الْمِسْكِينَ ٤٤

"Nor we used to feed Al-Miskin (the poor);

وَلَمْ نَكُ نُطْعِمُ

Nor we used to feed

الْمِسْكِينَ

Al-Miskin (the poor)

وَكُنَّا نَخُوضُ مَعَ الْخَائِضِينَ ٤٥

"And we used to talk falsehood (all that which Allah hated) with vain talkers.

وَكُنَّا نَخُوضُ

And we used to talk

مَعَ الْخَائِضِينَ

with vain talkers

talk falsehood with vain talkers

And we used to talk falsehood with vain talkers

وَكُنَّا نُكَذِّبُ بِيَوْمِ الدِّينِ ٤٦

"And we used to belie the Day of Recompense

وَكُنَّا نُكَذِّبُ

And we used to belie

بِيَوْمِ الدِّينِ

the Day of Recompense

حَتَّىٰ أَتَانَا الْيَقِينُ ٤٧

"Until there came to us (the death) that is certain."

حَتَّىٰ

Until

أَتَانَا

there came to us

الْيَقِينُ

(the death) that is certain

فَمَا تَنفَعُهُمْ شَفَاعَةُ الشَّافِعِينَ ٤٨

So no intercession of intercessors will be of any use to them.

فَمَا تَنفَعُهُمْ

So no benefit to them

شَفَاعَةُ الشَّافِعِينَ

the intercession of intercessors

فَمَا لَهُمْ عَنِ التَّذْكِرَةِ مُعْرِضِينَ ٤٩

Then what is wrong with them (i.e. the disbelievers) that they turn away from (receiving) admonition?

فَمَا لَهُمْ

Then what is wrong with them

عَنِ التَّذْكِرَةِ

from (receiving) admonition

مُعْرِضِينَ

(i.e. the disbelievers) that they turn away

كَأَنَّهُمْ حُمُرٌ مُّسْتَنفِرَةٌ ٥٠

As if they were frightened (wild) donkeys.

كَأَنَّهُمْ

As if they were

حُمُرٌ

wild donkeys

مُّسْتَنفِرَةٌ

frightened

فَرَّتْ مِن قَسْوَرَةٍ ٥١

Fleeing from a hunter, or a lion, or a beast of prey.

فَرَّتْ

Fleeing

مِن قَسْوَرَةٍ

from a hunter, or a lion, or a beast of prey

بَلْ يُرِيدُ كُلُّ امْرِئٍ مِّنْهُمْ أَن يُؤْتَىٰ صُحُفًا مُّنَشَّرَةً ٥٢

Nay, everyone of them desires that he should be given pages spread out (coming from Allah with a writing that Islam is the right religion, and Muhammad SAW has come with the truth from Allah the Lord of the heavens and earth, etc.).

بَلْ يُرِيدُ كُلُّ امْرِئٍ مِّنْهُمْ

Nay, everyone of them desires

أَن يُؤْتَىٰ صُحُفًا مُّنَشَّرَةً

that he should be given pages spread out

كَلَّا ۖ بَل لَّا يَخَافُونَ الْآخِرَةَ ٥٣

Nay! But they fear not the Hereafter (from Allah's punishment).

كَلَّا ۖ

Nay!

بَل لَّا يَخَافُونَ

But they fear not

الْآخِرَةَ

the Hereafter (from Allah's punishment)
