الر ۚ تِلْكَ آيَاتُ الْكِتَابِ وَقُرْآنٍ مُّبِينٍ ١

Alif-Lam-Ra. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran, and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. These are the Verses of the Book, and a plain Quran.

الر ۚ تِلْكَ آيَاتُ الْكِتَابِ وَقُرْآنٍ

Alif-Lam-Ra. These are the Verses of the Book

مُّبِينٍ

and a plain Quran.

رُّبَمَا يَوَدُّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا لَوْ كَانُوا مُسْلِمِينَ ٢

Perhaps (often) will those who disbelieve wish that they were Muslims [those who have submitted themselves to Allah's Will in Islam Islamic Monotheism, this will be on the Day of Resurrection when they will see the disbelievers going to Hell and the Muslims going to Paradise].

رُّبَمَا يَوَدُّ

Perhaps (often) will wish

الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا

those who disbelieve

لَوْ كَانُوا مُسْلِمِينَ

that they were Muslims [those who have submitted themselves to Allah's Will in Islam Islamic Monotheism]

this will be on the Day of Resurrection

when they will see

the disbelievers going to Hell

and the Muslims going to Paradise

ذَرْهُمْ يَأْكُلُوا وَيَتَمَتَّعُوا وَيُلْهِهِمُ الْأَمَلُ ۖ فَسَوْفَ يَعْلَمُونَ ٣

Leave them to eat and enjoy, and let them be preoccupied with (false) hope. They will come to know!

ذَرْهُمْ

Leave them

يَأْكُلُوا وَيَتَمَتَّعُوا

to eat and enjoy

وَيُلْهِهِمُ الْأَمَلُ ۖ

and let them be preoccupied with (false) hope

فَسَوْفَ يَعْلَمُونَ

They will come to know!

وَمَا أَهْلَكْنَا مِن قَرْيَةٍ إِلَّا وَلَهَا كِتَابٌ مَّعْلُومٌ ٤

And never did We destroy a township but there was a known decree for it.

وَمَا أَهْلَكْنَا مِن قَرْيَةٍ

And never did We destroy a township

إِلَّا وَلَهَا كِتَابٌ مَّعْلُومٌ

but there was a known decree for it.

مَّا تَسْبِقُ مِنْ أُمَّةٍ أَجَلَهَا وَمَا يَسْتَأْخِرُونَ ٥

No nation can anticipate its term, nor delay it.

مَّا تَسْبِقُ مِنْ أُمَّةٍ

No nation can anticipate

أَجَلَهَا

its term

وَمَا يَسْتَأْخِرُونَ

nor delay it

وَقَالُوا يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِي نُزِّلَ عَلَيْهِ الذِّكْرُ إِنَّكَ لَمَجْنُونٌ ٦

And they say: "O you (Muhammad SAW) to whom the Dhikr (the Quran) has been sent down! Verily, you are a mad man.

وَقَالُوا

And they say:

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِي نُزِّلَ عَلَيْهِ الذِّكْرُ إِنَّكَ

O you (Muhammad SAW) to whom the Dhikr (the Quran) has been sent down!

لَمَجْنُونٌ

Verily, you are a mad man.

لَّوْ مَا تَأْتِينَا بِالْمَلَائِكَةِ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ الصَّادِقِينَ ٧

"Why do you not bring angels to us if you are of the truthful ones?"

لَّوْ مَا تَأْتِينَا

Why do you not bring to us

بِالْمَلَائِكَةِ

the angels

إِن كُنتَ مِنَ الصَّادِقِينَ

if you are of the truthful ones

مَا نُنَزِّلُ الْمَلَائِكَةَ إِلَّا بِالْحَقِّ وَمَا كَانُوا إِذًا مُّنظَرِينَ ٨

We send not the angels down except with the truth (i.e. for torment, etc.), and in that case, they (the disbelievers) would have no respite!

مَا نُنَزِّلُ الْمَلَائِكَةَ

We send not the angels down

إِلَّا بِالْحَقِّ

except with the truth (i.e. for torment, etc.)

وَمَا كَانُوا إِذًا مُّنظَرِينَ

and in that case, they (the disbelievers) would have no respite!

إِنَّا نَحْنُ نَزَّلْنَا الذِّكْرَ وَإِنَّا لَهُ لَحَافِظُونَ ٩

Verily We: It is We Who have sent down the Dhikr (i.e. the Quran) and surely, We will guard it (from corruption).

إِنَّا نَحْنُ نَزَّلْنَا

Verily We: It is We Who have sent down

الذِّكْرَ

the Dhikr (i.e. the Quran)

وَإِنَّا لَهُ لَحَافِظُونَ

and surely, We will guard it (from corruption)
