قَالَ يَا إِبْلِيسُ مَا لَكَ أَلَّا تَكُونَ مَعَ السَّاجِدِينَ ٣٢

(Allah) said: "O Iblis (Satan)! What is your reason for not being among the prostrators?"

قَالَ

Allah said:

يَا إِبْلِيسُ مَا

O Iblis (Satan)!

لَكَ أَلَّا

What is your reason

تَكُونَ مَعَ

for not being

السَّاجِدِينَ

among the prostrators?

قَالَ لَمْ أَكُن لِّأَسْجُدَ لِبَشَرٍ خَلَقْتَهُ مِن صَلْصَالٍ مِّنْ حَمَإٍ مَّسْنُونٍ ٣٣

[Iblis (Satan)] said: "I am not the one to prostrate myself to a human being, whom You created from sounding clay of altered black smooth mud."

قَالَ

He said:

لَمْ أَكُن لِّأَسْجُدَ

I am not the one to prostrate myself

لِبَشَرٍ

to a human being,

خَلَقْتَهُ

whom You created

مِن صَلْصَالٍ

from sounding clay

مِّنْ حَمَإٍ مَّسْنُونٍ

of altered black smooth mud.

قَالَ فَاخْرُجْ مِنْهَا فَإِنَّكَ رَجِيمٌ ٣٤

(Allah) said: "Then, get out from here, for verily, you are Rajim (an outcast or a cursed one)." [Tafsir At-Tabari]

قَالَ

Then, (Allah) said:

فَاخْرُجْ مِنْهَا

get out from here,

فَإِنَّكَ

for verily, you are

رَجِيمٌ

Rajim (an outcast or a cursed one).

وَإِنَّ عَلَيْكَ اللَّعْنَةَ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ الدِّينِ ٣٥

"And verily, the curse shall be upon you till the Day of Recompense (i.e. the Day of Resurrection)."

وَإِنَّ عَلَيْكَ

And verily, upon you

اللَّعْنَةَ

the curse

إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ الدِّينِ

shall be till the Day of Recompense (i.e. the Day of Resurrection)

قَالَ رَبِّ فَأَنظِرْنِي إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ يُبْعَثُونَ ٣٦

[Iblis (Satan)] said: "O my Lord! Give me then respite till the Day they (the dead) will be resurrected."

قَالَ رَبِّ

O my Lord!

فَأَنظِرْنِي

Give me then respite

إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ

till the Day

يُبْعَثُونَ

they (the dead) will be resurrected.

قَالَ فَإِنَّكَ مِنَ الْمُنظَرِينَ ٣٧

Allah said: "Then, verily, you are of those reprieved,

قَالَ

Allah said:

فَإِنَّكَ

Then, verily, you are

مِنَ الْمُنظَرِينَ

of those reprieved

إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ الْوَقْتِ الْمَعْلُومِ ٣٨

"Till the Day of the time appointed."

إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ

Till the Day of

الْوَقْتِ الْمَعْلُومِ

the time appointed

قَالَ رَبِّ بِمَا أَغْوَيْتَنِي لَأُزَيِّنَنَّ لَهُمْ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَلَأُغْوِيَنَّهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ ٣٩

[Iblis (Satan)] said: "O my Lord! Because you misled me, I shall indeed adorn the path of error for them (mankind) on the earth, and I shall mislead them all.

قَالَ رَبِّ

O my Lord!

بِمَا أَغْوَيْتَنِي

Because you misled me,

لَأُزَيِّنَنَّ لَهُمْ فِي الْأَرْضِ

I shall indeed adorn the path of error for them (mankind) on the earth,

وَلَأُغْوِيَنَّهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ

and I shall mislead them all.

إِلَّا عِبَادَكَ مِنْهُمُ الْمُخْلَصِينَ ٤٠

"Except Your chosen, (guided) slaves among them."

إِلَّا عِبَادَكَ

Except Your chosen slaves

مِنْهُمُ

among them

الْمُخْلَصِينَ

(guided)

قَالَ هَٰذَا صِرَاطٌ عَلَيَّ مُسْتَقِيمٌ ٤١

(Allah) said: "This is the Way which will lead straight to Me."

قَالَ

Allah said:

هَٰذَا صِرَاطٌ

This is the Way

عَلَيَّ

which will lead to Me.

مُسْتَقِيمٌ

straight

إِنَّ عِبَادِي لَيْسَ لَكَ عَلَيْهِمْ سُلْطَانٌ إِلَّا مَنِ اتَّبَعَكَ مِنَ الْغَاوِينَ ٤٢

"Certainly, you shall have no authority over My slaves, except those who follow you of the Ghawin (Mushrikun and those who go astray, criminals, polytheists, and evil-doers, etc.).

إِنَّ عِبَادِي

Certainly, My slaves

لَيْسَ لَكَ عَلَيْهِمْ سُلْطَانٌ

you shall have no authority over them

إِلَّا مَنِ اتَّبَعَكَ

except those who follow you

مِنَ الْغَاوِينَ

of the Ghawin (Mushrikun and those who go astray, criminals, polytheists, and evil-doers, etc.)

وَإِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ لَمَوْعِدُهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ ٤٣

"And surely, Hell is the promised place for them all.

وَإِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ

And surely, Hell

لَمَوْعِدُهُمْ

is the promised place for them

أَجْمَعِينَ

all.

لَهَا سَبْعَةُ أَبْوَابٍ لِّكُلِّ بَابٍ مِّنْهُمْ جُزْءٌ مَّقْسُومٌ ٤٤

"It (Hell) has seven gates, for each of those gates is a (special) class (of sinners) assigned.

لَهَا سَبْعَةُ أَبْوَابٍ

It (Hell) has seven gates

لِّكُلِّ بَابٍ مِّنْهُمْ

for each of those gates

جُزْءٌ مَّقْسُومٌ

is a (special) class (of sinners) assigned
