Alif-Lam-Mim-Sad. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings].

Alif-Lam-Mim-Sad

[These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran

and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]

كِتَابٌ أُنزِلَ إِلَيْكَ فَلَا يَكُن فِي صَدْرِكَ حَرَجٌ مِّنْهُ لِتُنذِرَ بِهِ وَذِكْرَىٰ لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ ٢

(This is the) Book (the Quran) sent down unto you (O Muhammad SAW), so let not your breast be narrow therefrom, that you warn thereby, and a reminder unto the believers.

كِتَابٌ أُنزِلَ إِلَيْكَ

(This is the) Book (the Quran) sent down unto you (O Muhammad SAW)

فَلَا يَكُن فِي صَدْرِكَ حَرَجٌ مِّنْهُ

so let not your breast be narrow therefrom

لِتُنذِرَ بِهِ

that you warn thereby

وَذِكْرَىٰ لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

and a reminder unto the believers

اتَّبِعُوا مَا أُنزِلَ إِلَيْكُم مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ وَلَا تَتَّبِعُوا مِن دُونِهِ أَوْلِيَاءَ ۗ قَلِيلًا مَّا تَذَكَّرُونَ ٣

[Say (O Muhammad SAW) to these idolaters (pagan Arabs) of your folk:] Follow what has been sent down unto you from your Lord (the Quran and Prophet Muhammad's Sunnah), and follow not any Auliya' (protectors and helpers, etc. who order you to associate partners in worship with Allah), besides Him (Allah). Little do you remember!

اتَّبِعُوا مَا أُنزِلَ إِلَيْكُم مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ

Follow what has been sent down unto you from your Lord

وَلَا تَتَّبِعُوا مِن دُونِهِ أَوْلِيَاءَ ۗ

and follow not any Auliya' besides Him

قَلِيلًا مَّا تَذَكَّرُونَ

Little do you remember

وَكَم مِّن قَرْيَةٍ أَهْلَكْنَاهَا فَجَاءَهَا بَأْسُنَا بَيَاتًا أَوْ هُمْ قَائِلُونَ ٤

And a great number of towns (their population) We destroyed (for their crimes). Our torment came upon them (suddenly) by night or while they were sleeping for their afternoon rest.

وَكَم مِّن قَرْيَةٍ

And a great number of towns

أَهْلَكْنَاهَا

We destroyed (their population)

فَجَاءَهَا بَأْسُنَا

Our torment came upon them

بَيَاتًا

(suddenly) by night

أَوْ هُمْ قَائِلُونَ

or while they were sleeping for their afternoon rest

فَمَا كَانَ دَعْوَاهُمْ إِذْ جَاءَهُم بَأْسُنَا إِلَّا أَن قَالُوا إِنَّا كُنَّا ظَالِمِينَ ٥

No cry did they utter when Our Torment came upon them but this: "Verily, we were Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers, etc.)".

فَمَا كَانَ دَعْوَاهُمْ

No cry did they utter

إِذْ جَاءَهُم بَأْسُنَا

when Our Torment came upon them

إِلَّا أَن قَالُوا

but this: 'Verily,

إِنَّا كُنَّا ظَالِمِينَ

we were Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers, etc.)'

فَلَنَسْأَلَنَّ الَّذِينَ أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْهِمْ وَلَنَسْأَلَنَّ الْمُرْسَلِينَ ٦

Then surely, We shall question those (people) to whom it (the Book) was sent and verily, We shall question the Messengers.

فَلَنَسْأَلَنَّ

Then surely, We shall question

الَّذِينَ أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْهِمْ

those (people) to whom it (the Book) was sent

وَلَنَسْأَلَنَّ

and verily, We shall question

الْمُرْسَلِينَ

the Messengers

فَلَنَقُصَّنَّ عَلَيْهِم بِعِلْمٍ ۖ وَمَا كُنَّا غَائِبِينَ ٧

Then surely, We shall narrate unto them (their whole story) with knowledge, and indeed We were not absent.

فَلَنَقُصَّنَّ عَلَيْهِم

Then surely, We shall narrate unto them

بِعِلْمٍ ۖ

with knowledge

وَمَا كُنَّا غَائِبِينَ

and indeed We were not absent

وَالْوَزْنُ يَوْمَئِذٍ الْحَقُّ ۚ فَمَن ثَقُلَتْ مَوَازِينُهُ فَأُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْمُفْلِحُونَ ٨

And the weighing on that day (Day of Resurrection) will be the true (weighing). So as for those whose scale (of good deeds) will be heavy, they will be the successful (by entering Paradise).

وَالْوَزْنُ يَوْمَئِذٍ الْحَقُّ ۚ

And the weighing on that day (Day of Resurrection) will be the true (weighing).

فَمَن ثَقُلَتْ مَوَازِينُهُ

So as for those whose scale (of good deeds) will be heavy,

فَأُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْمُفْلِحُونَ

they will be the successful (by entering Paradise).

وَمَنْ خَفَّتْ مَوَازِينُهُ فَأُولَٰئِكَ الَّذِينَ خَسِرُوا أَنفُسَهُم بِمَا كَانُوا بِآيَاتِنَا يَظْلِمُونَ ٩

And as for those whose scale will be light, they are those who will lose their ownselves (by entering Hell) because they denied and rejected Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.).

وَمَنْ خَفَّتْ مَوَازِينُهُ

And as for those whose scale will be light,

فَأُولَٰئِكَ الَّذِينَ

they are those who

خَسِرُوا أَنفُسَهُم

will lose their own selves

بِمَا كَانُوا بِآيَاتِنَا يَظْلِمُونَ

(by entering Hell) because they denied and rejected Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.).
