۞ هُوَ الَّذِي خَلَقَكُم مِّن نَّفْسٍ وَاحِدَةٍ وَجَعَلَ مِنْهَا زَوْجَهَا لِيَسْكُنَ إِلَيْهَا ۖ فَلَمَّا تَغَشَّاهَا حَمَلَتْ حَمْلًا خَفِيفًا فَمَرَّتْ بِهِ ۖ فَلَمَّا أَثْقَلَت دَّعَوَا اللَّهَ رَبَّهُمَا لَئِنْ آتَيْتَنَا صَالِحًا لَّنَكُونَنَّ مِنَ الشَّاكِرِينَ ١٨٩

It is He Who has created you from a single person (Adam), and (then) He has created from him his wife [Hawwa (Eve)], in order that he might enjoy the pleasure of living with her. When he had sexual relation with her, she became pregnant and she carried it about lightly. Then when it became heavy, they both invoked Allah, their Lord (saying): "If You give us a Salih (good in every aspect) child, we shall indeed be among the grateful."

۞ هُوَ الَّذِي خَلَقَكُم مِّن نَّفْسٍ وَاحِدَةٍ

It is He Who has created you from a single person (Adam),

وَجَعَلَ مِنْهَا زَوْجَهَا

and (then) He has created from him his wife [Hawwa (Eve)],

لِيَسْكُنَ إِلَيْهَا ۖ

in order that he might enjoy the pleasure of living with her.

فَلَمَّا تَغَشَّاهَا

When he had sexual relation with her,

حَمَلَتْ حَمْلًا خَفِيفًا

she became pregnant and she carried it about lightly.

فَمَرَّتْ بِهِ ۖ

Then when it became heavy,

فَلَمَّا أَثْقَلَت دَّعَوَا

they both invoked Allah, their Lord

اللَّهَ رَبَّهُمَا لَئِنْ

(saying): 'If You give us a Salih (good in every aspect) child,

آتَيْتَنَا صَالِحًا لَّنَكُونَنَّ

we shall indeed be among the grateful.'

فَلَمَّا آتَاهُمَا صَالِحًا جَعَلَا لَهُ شُرَكَاءَ فِيمَا آتَاهُمَا ۚ فَتَعَالَى اللَّهُ عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ ١٩٠

But when He gave them a Salih (good in every aspect) child, they ascribed partners to Him (Allah) in that which He has given to them. High be Allah, Exalted above all that they ascribe as partners to Him. (Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol. 9, Page 148).

فَلَمَّا آتَاهُمَا صَالِحًا

But when He gave them a Salih (good in every aspect) child,

جَعَلَا لَهُ شُرَكَاءَ فِيمَا آتَاهُمَا ۚ

they ascribed partners to Him (Allah) in that which He has given to them.

فَتَعَالَى اللَّهُ

High be Allah,

عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ

Exalted above all that they ascribe as partners to Him.

أَيُشْرِكُونَ مَا لَا يَخْلُقُ شَيْئًا وَهُمْ يُخْلَقُونَ ١٩١

Do they attribute as partners to Allah those who created nothing but they themselves are created?

أَيُشْرِكُونَ

Do they attribute as partners

مَا لَا يَخْلُقُ شَيْئًا

to Allah those who created nothing

وَهُمْ يُخْلَقُونَ

but they themselves are created?

وَلَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ لَهُمْ نَصْرًا وَلَا أَنفُسَهُمْ يَنصُرُونَ ١٩٢

No help can they give them, nor can they help themselves.

وَلَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ لَهُمْ نَصْرًا

No help can they give them

وَلَا أَنفُسَهُمْ يَنصُرُونَ

nor can they help themselves

وَإِن تَدْعُوهُمْ إِلَى الْهُدَىٰ لَا يَتَّبِعُوكُمْ ۚ سَوَاءٌ عَلَيْكُمْ أَدَعَوْتُمُوهُمْ أَمْ أَنتُمْ صَامِتُونَ ١٩٣

And if you call them to guidance, they follow you not. It is the same for you whether you call them or you keep silent.

وَإِن تَدْعُوهُمْ إِلَى الْهُدَىٰ

And if you call them to guidance

لَا يَتَّبِعُوكُمْ ۚ

they follow you not.

سَوَاءٌ عَلَيْكُمْ

It is the same for you

أَدَعَوْتُمُوهُمْ

whether you call them

أَمْ أَنتُمْ صَامِتُونَ

or you keep silent.

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ تَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِ اللَّهِ عِبَادٌ أَمْثَالُكُمْ ۖ فَادْعُوهُمْ فَلْيَسْتَجِيبُوا لَكُمْ إِن كُنتُمْ صَادِقِينَ ١٩٤

Verily, those whom you call upon besides Allah are slaves like you. So call upon them and let them answer you if you are truthful.

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ تَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِ اللَّهِ

Verily, those whom you call upon besides Allah

عِبَادٌ أَمْثَالُكُمْ ۖ

are slaves like you.

فَادْعُوهُمْ

So call upon them

فَلْيَسْتَجِيبُوا لَكُمْ

and let them answer you

إِن كُنتُمْ صَادِقِينَ

if you are truthful.

أَلَهُمْ أَرْجُلٌ يَمْشُونَ بِهَا ۖ أَمْ لَهُمْ أَيْدٍ يَبْطِشُونَ بِهَا ۖ أَمْ لَهُمْ أَعْيُنٌ يُبْصِرُونَ بِهَا ۖ أَمْ لَهُمْ آذَانٌ يَسْمَعُونَ بِهَا ۗ قُلِ ادْعُوا شُرَكَاءَكُمْ ثُمَّ كِيدُونِ فَلَا تُنظِرُونِ ١٩٥

Have they feet wherewith they walk? Or have they hands wherewith they hold? Or have they eyes wherewith they see? Or have they ears wherewith they hear? Say (O Muhammad SAW): "Call your (so-called) partners (of Allah) and then plot against me, and give me no respite!

أَلَهُمْ أَرْجُلٌ يَمْشُونَ بِهَا ۖ

Have they feet wherewith they walk?

أَمْ لَهُمْ أَيْدٍ يَبْطِشُونَ بِهَا ۖ

Or have they hands wherewith they hold?

أَمْ لَهُمْ أَعْيُنٌ يُبْصِرُونَ بِهَا ۖ

Or have they eyes wherewith they see?

أَمْ لَهُمْ آذَانٌ يَسْمَعُونَ بِهَا ۗ

Or have they ears wherewith they hear?

قُلِ ادْعُوا شُرَكَاءَكُمْ

Say (O Muhammad SAW): 'Call your (so-called) partners (of Allah)'

ثُمَّ كِيدُونِ فَلَا تُنظِرُونِ

and then plot against me, and give me no respite!

إِنَّ وَلِيِّيَ اللَّهُ الَّذِي نَزَّلَ الْكِتَابَ ۖ وَهُوَ يَتَوَلَّى الصَّالِحِينَ ١٩٦

"Verily, my Wali (Protector, Supporter, and Helper, etc.) is Allah Who has revealed the Book (the Quran), and He protects (supports and helps) the righteous.

إِنَّ وَلِيِّيَ اللَّهُ

Verily, my Wali (Protector, Supporter, and Helper, etc.) is Allah

الَّذِي نَزَّلَ الْكِتَابَ ۖ

Who has revealed the Book (the Quran)

وَهُوَ يَتَوَلَّى الصَّالِحِينَ

and He protects (supports and helps) the righteous

وَالَّذِينَ تَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِهِ لَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ نَصْرَكُمْ وَلَا أَنفُسَهُمْ يَنصُرُونَ ١٩٧

"And those whom you call upon besides Him (Allah) cannot help you nor can they help themselves."

وَالَّذِينَ تَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِهِ

And those whom you call upon besides Him (Allah)

لَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ نَصْرَكُمْ

cannot help you

وَلَا أَنفُسَهُمْ يَنصُرُونَ

nor can they help themselves.

وَإِن تَدْعُوهُمْ إِلَى الْهُدَىٰ لَا يَسْمَعُوا ۖ وَتَرَاهُمْ يَنظُرُونَ إِلَيْكَ وَهُمْ لَا يُبْصِرُونَ ١٩٨

And if you call them to guidance, they hear not and you will see them looking at you, yet they see not.

وَإِن تَدْعُوهُمْ إِلَى الْهُدَىٰ

And if you call them to guidance

لَا يَسْمَعُوا ۖ

they hear not

وَتَرَاهُمْ يَنظُرُونَ إِلَيْكَ

and you will see them looking at you

وَهُمْ لَا يُبْصِرُونَ

yet they see not
