۞ وَلَقَدْ آتَيْنَا إِبْرَاهِيمَ رُشْدَهُ مِن قَبْلُ وَكُنَّا بِهِ عَالِمِينَ ٥١

And indeed We bestowed aforetime on Ibrahim (Abraham) his (portion of) guidance, and We were Well-Acquainted with him (as to his Belief in the Oneness of Allah, etc.).

۞ وَلَقَدْ آتَيْنَا إِبْرَاهِيمَ

And indeed We bestowed on Ibrahim (Abraham)

رُشْدَهُ مِن قَبْلُ

his (portion of) guidance aforetime

وَكُنَّا بِهِ عَالِمِينَ

and We were Well-Acquainted with him (as to his Belief in the Oneness of Allah, etc.)

إِذْ قَالَ لِأَبِيهِ وَقَوْمِهِ مَا هَٰذِهِ التَّمَاثِيلُ الَّتِي أَنتُمْ لَهَا عَاكِفُونَ ٥٢

When he said to his father and his people: "What are these images, to which you are devoted?"

إِذْ قَالَ لِأَبِيهِ

When he said to his father

وَقَوْمِهِ

and his people

مَا هَٰذِهِ التَّمَاثِيلُ

What are these images

الَّتِي أَنتُمْ لَهَا عَاكِفُونَ

to which you are devoted?

قَالُوا وَجَدْنَا آبَاءَنَا لَهَا عَابِدِينَ ٥٣

They said:"We found our fathers worshipping them."

قَالُوا

We found

وَجَدْنَا

our fathers

آبَاءَنَا لَهَا

worshipping them

قَالَ لَقَدْ كُنتُمْ أَنتُمْ وَآبَاؤُكُمْ فِي ضَلَالٍ مُّبِينٍ ٥٤

He said: "Indeed you and your fathers have been in manifest error."

قَالَ

He said:

لَقَدْ كُنتُمْ

Indeed you have been

أَنتُمْ وَآبَاؤُكُمْ

you and your fathers

فِي ضَلَالٍ مُّبِينٍ

in manifest error.

قَالُوا أَجِئْتَنَا بِالْحَقِّ أَمْ أَنتَ مِنَ اللَّاعِبِينَ ٥٥

They said: "Have you brought us the truth, or are you one of those who play about?"

قَالُوا

They said:

أَجِئْتَنَا بِالْحَقِّ

Have you brought us the truth,

أَمْ أَنتَ مِنَ اللَّاعِبِينَ

or are you one of those who play about?

قَالَ بَل رَّبُّكُمْ رَبُّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ الَّذِي فَطَرَهُنَّ وَأَنَا عَلَىٰ ذَٰلِكُم مِّنَ الشَّاهِدِينَ ٥٦

He said: "Nay, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who created them and of that I am one of the witnesses.

قَالَ

He said:

بَل رَّبُّكُمْ

Nay, your Lord is

رَبُّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ

the Lord of the heavens and the earth,

الَّذِي فَطَرَهُنَّ

Who created them

وَأَنَا عَلَىٰ ذَٰلِكُم مِّنَ الشَّاهِدِينَ

and of that I am one of the witnesses.

وَتَاللَّهِ لَأَكِيدَنَّ أَصْنَامَكُم بَعْدَ أَن تُوَلُّوا مُدْبِرِينَ ٥٧

"And by Allah, I shall plot a plan (to destroy) your idols after you have gone away and turned your backs."

وَتَاللَّهِ

And by Allah,

لَأَكِيدَنَّ

I shall plot a plan

أَصْنَامَكُم

(to destroy) your idols

بَعْدَ أَن تُوَلُّوا مُدْبِرِينَ

after you have gone away and turned your backs.

فَجَعَلَهُمْ جُذَاذًا إِلَّا كَبِيرًا لَّهُمْ لَعَلَّهُمْ إِلَيْهِ يَرْجِعُونَ ٥٨

So he broke them to pieces, (all) except the biggest of them, that they might turn to it.

فَجَعَلَهُمْ جُذَاذًا

So he broke them to pieces,

إِلَّا كَبِيرًا لَّهُمْ

(all) except the biggest of them,

لَعَلَّهُمْ إِلَيْهِ يَرْجِعُونَ

that they might turn to it.

قَالُوا مَن فَعَلَ هَٰذَا بِآلِهَتِنَا إِنَّهُ لَمِنَ الظَّالِمِينَ ٥٩

They said: "Who has done this to our aliha (gods)? He must indeed be one of the wrong-doers."

قَالُوا

They said:

مَن فَعَلَ هَٰذَا

Who has done this

بِآلِهَتِنَا

to our aliha (gods)?

إِنَّهُ لَمِنَ الظَّالِمِينَ

He must indeed be one of the wrong-doers.

قَالُوا سَمِعْنَا فَتًى يَذْكُرُهُمْ يُقَالُ لَهُ إِبْرَاهِيمُ ٦٠

They said: "We heard a young man talking (against) them who is called Ibrahim (Abraham)."

قَالُوا

They said:

سَمِعْنَا

We heard

فَتًى

a young man

يَذْكُرُهُمْ

talking (against) them

يُقَالُ لَهُ

who is called

إِبْرَاهِيمُ

Ibrahim (Abraham).

قَالُوا فَأْتُوا بِهِ عَلَىٰ أَعْيُنِ النَّاسِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَشْهَدُونَ ٦١

They said: "Then bring him before the eyes of the people, that they may testify."

قَالُوا

They said:

فَأْتُوا بِهِ

Then bring him

عَلَىٰ أَعْيُنِ النَّاسِ

before the eyes of the people,

لَعَلَّهُمْ يَشْهَدُونَ

that they may testify.

قَالُوا أَأَنتَ فَعَلْتَ هَٰذَا بِآلِهَتِنَا يَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ ٦٢

They said: "Are you the one who has done this to our gods, O Ibrahim (Abraham)?"

قَالُوا

They said:

أَأَنتَ فَعَلْتَ هَٰذَا

Are you the one who has done this

بِآلِهَتِنَا

to our gods,

يَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ

O Ibrahim (Abraham)?

قَالَ بَلْ فَعَلَهُ كَبِيرُهُمْ هَٰذَا فَاسْأَلُوهُمْ إِن كَانُوا يَنطِقُونَ ٦٣

[Ibrahim (Abraham)] said: "Nay, this one, the biggest of them (idols) did it. Ask them, if they can speak!"

قَالَ

said

بَلْ فَعَلَهُ كَبِيرُهُمْ هَٰذَا

Nay, this one, the biggest of them (idols) did it.

فَاسْأَلُوهُمْ

Ask them,

إِن كَانُوا يَنطِقُونَ

if they can speak!

فَرَجَعُوا إِلَىٰ أَنفُسِهِمْ فَقَالُوا إِنَّكُمْ أَنتُمُ الظَّالِمُونَ ٦٤

So they turned to themselves and said: "Verily, you are the Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers)."

فَرَجَعُوا إِلَىٰ أَنفُسِهِمْ

So they turned to themselves

فَقَالُوا

and said:

إِنَّكُمْ أَنتُمُ الظَّالِمُونَ

Verily, you are the Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers).

ثُمَّ نُكِسُوا عَلَىٰ رُءُوسِهِمْ لَقَدْ عَلِمْتَ مَا هَٰؤُلَاءِ يَنطِقُونَ ٦٥

Then they turned to themselves (their first thought and said): "Indeed you [Ibrahim (Abraham)] know well that these (idols) speak not!"

ثُمَّ نُكِسُوا عَلَىٰ رُءُوسِهِمْ

Then they turned to themselves

لَقَدْ عَلِمْتَ

Indeed you [Ibrahim (Abraham)] know well

مَا هَٰؤُلَاءِ يَنطِقُونَ

that these (idols) speak not!

قَالَ أَفَتَعْبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ اللَّهِ مَا لَا يَنفَعُكُمْ شَيْئًا وَلَا يَضُرُّكُمْ ٦٦

[Ibrahim (Abraham)] said: "Do you then worship besides Allah, things that can neither profit you, nor harm you?

قَالَ

said

أَفَتَعْبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ اللَّهِ

Do you then worship besides Allah

مَا لَا يَنفَعُكُمْ شَيْئًا

things that can neither profit you

وَلَا يَضُرُّكُمْ

nor harm you

أُفٍّ لَّكُمْ وَلِمَا تَعْبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ اللَّهِ ۖ أَفَلَا تَعْقِلُونَ ٦٧

"Fie upon you, and upon that which you worship besides Allah! Have you then no sense?"

أُفٍّ لَّكُمْ

Fie upon you,

وَلِمَا تَعْبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ اللَّهِ ۖ

and upon that which you worship besides Allah!

أَفَلَا تَعْقِلُونَ

Have you then no sense?

قَالُوا حَرِّقُوهُ وَانصُرُوا آلِهَتَكُمْ إِن كُنتُمْ فَاعِلِينَ ٦٨

They said: "Burn him and help your aliha (gods), if you will be doing."

قَالُوا

They said:

حَرِّقُوهُ

Burn him

وَانصُرُوا آلِهَتَكُمْ

and help your aliha (gods),

إِن كُنتُمْ فَاعِلِينَ

if you will be doing.

قُلْنَا يَا نَارُ كُونِي بَرْدًا وَسَلَامًا عَلَىٰ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ٦٩

We (Allah) said: "O fire! Be you coolness and safety for Ibrahim (Abraham)!"

قُلْنَا

We (Allah) said:

يَا نَارُ كُونِي

O fire!

بَرْدًا وَسَلَامًا عَلَىٰ

Be you coolness and safety

إِبْرَاهِيمَ

for Ibrahim (Abraham)!

وَأَرَادُوا بِهِ كَيْدًا فَجَعَلْنَاهُمُ الْأَخْسَرِينَ ٧٠

And they wanted to harm him, but We made them the worst losers.

وَأَرَادُوا بِهِ كَيْدًا

And they wanted to harm him,

فَجَعَلْنَاهُمُ الْأَخْسَرِينَ

but We made them the worst losers.

وَنَجَّيْنَاهُ وَلُوطًا إِلَى الْأَرْضِ الَّتِي بَارَكْنَا فِيهَا لِلْعَالَمِينَ ٧١

And We rescued him and Lout (Lot) to the land which We have blessed for the 'Alamin (mankind and jinns).

وَنَجَّيْنَاهُ

And We rescued him

وَلُوطًا

and Lout (Lot)

إِلَى الْأَرْضِ

to the land

الَّتِي بَارَكْنَا فِيهَا

which We have blessed in it

لِلْعَالَمِينَ

for the 'Alamin (mankind and jinns)

وَوَهَبْنَا لَهُ إِسْحَاقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ نَافِلَةً ۖ وَكُلًّا جَعَلْنَا صَالِحِينَ ٧٢

And We bestowed upon him Ishaque (Isaac), and (a grandson) Ya'qub (Jacob). Each one We made righteous.

وَوَهَبْنَا لَهُ

And We bestowed upon him

إِسْحَاقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ

Ishaque (Isaac), and (a grandson) Ya'qub (Jacob)

نَافِلَةً ۖ

Each one

وَكُلًّا جَعَلْنَا صَالِحِينَ

We made righteous

وَجَعَلْنَاهُمْ أَئِمَّةً يَهْدُونَ بِأَمْرِنَا وَأَوْحَيْنَا إِلَيْهِمْ فِعْلَ الْخَيْرَاتِ وَإِقَامَ الصَّلَاةِ وَإِيتَاءَ الزَّكَاةِ ۖ وَكَانُوا لَنَا عَابِدِينَ ٧٣

And We made them leaders, guiding (mankind) by Our Command, and We inspired in them the doing of good deeds, performing Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat), and the giving of Zakat and of Us (Alone) they were worshippers.

وَجَعَلْنَاهُمْ أَئِمَّةً

And We made them leaders,

يَهْدُونَ بِأَمْرِنَا

guiding (mankind) by Our Command,

وَأَوْحَيْنَا إِلَيْهِمْ

and We inspired in them

فِعْلَ الْخَيْرَاتِ

the doing of good deeds,

وَإِقَامَ الصَّلَاةِ

performing Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat),

وَإِيتَاءَ الزَّكَاةِ ۖ

and the giving of Zakat

وَكَانُوا لَنَا عَابِدِينَ

and of Us (Alone) they were worshippers.
