The Challenge to Disbelievers and Lessons from Past Nations

Ad-Dukhan — Verses 34–39 | Explore this Quran theme on Muallim

Verily, these (Quraish) people are saying:

Verily, these
are saying

"There is nothing but our first death, and we shall not be resurrected.

There is nothing but
our first death
and we shall not be resurrected

"Then bring back our fore-fathers, if you speak the truth!"

Then bring
back our fore-fathers
if you
speak the truth!

Are they better or the people of Tubba' and those before them? We destroyed them because they were indeed Mujrimun (disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, criminals, etc.).

Are they better
or the people of Tubba'
and those before them?
We destroyed them
because they were indeed Mujrimun (disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, criminals, etc.)

And We created not the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them, for mere play,

And We created not the heavens and the earth
and all that is between them
for mere play

We created them not except with truth (i.e. to examine and test those who are obedient and those who are disobedient and then reward the obedient ones and punish the disobedient ones), but most of them know not.

We created them not
except with truth
but most of them
know not
except with truth (i.e. to examine and test those who are obedient and those who are disobedient and then reward the obedient ones and punish the disobedient ones), but most of them know not.
